Hows your heating system?

Me? None at all. Rotten heat exchange. I have two hot water bottles and 3 jakets, one hat and a blanket. What do you have?

Bizarre ·

IF you are serious about heat the next time your motor is out get some flanges welded on your heater boxes.

Why Mr VW didnt do this i will NEVER forgive. Clean fume free heat.

MickH ·

only SOOKS have heaters🤓😵

Bizarre ·

but BIGGER sooks live where heaters are not needed 🙅

blutopless2 ·

have a great heating system including heated seats!!! 🙅

in the bus nice and toasty, sometimes smelly though (bloody oil leaks) ,the bug ,just freeze so far, but its driven 2 or 3 times a month🤪

it is now 20deg inside my house and she has parked herself 300mm from the fire, two hours ago it was 24deg and she was running around in a tshirt proclaming what fantastic weather it is after a bit of rain :beer:beer:beer

Flying VW ·

Recently when I left at 6am to drive to Wagga I had a Hot Water Bottle down my Jumper and a Big Jacket on.

It was about 0 degrees driving up through Yea, and the Cold air leeks through the Dash.

barls ·

i upgraded the one i the bug by putting a couple of boat bilge blowers in the system under the rear seats. id copy the link to the thread but it wont let me on this web cafe soo your going to have to search for it its by me so that should make it easyier 😎

Mine leaks but it is on the to-do list to plug up the holes... It is warm but it makes you dizzy🙂

Che Castro ·

mine is stock as a rock and its actually not half bad. The only complaint is that it takes a few minutes for the heat to get exchanged into air. It does get a bit stuffy though. It needs some kind of recirculation system

LOWBUG ·

I cut all the heater pipes out of my bug and put a Turbo in the back seat. Mmmmmmmm nice and warm, gonna be hot in the summer.

Purple Martin ·

I have some stupid-arsed custom exhaust put in by the PO. So I have no heat, icy manifolds, and a really tiny exit angle so I can't get into any carpark without scraping the ground. Replacing this P.O.S. with a stock exhaust is high on my priorities! Why on earth would anyone replace a perfectly good stock exhaust with something that doesn't fit and doesn't do all the jobs it's supposed to do???

EDIT:
And in my kombi... one of the heat exchangers has an exhaust leak in it so I've removed the tube from it until I get around to replacing it... so no heat in the kombi. And this is in Canberra, where I need heat more than most! One day I'll have both bug and bus nice and toasty warm 🙂

Is this in the kombi? Been there done that! When I got mine the heater cables didn't move. Twas easy to replace the passenger's side, the driver's side was a bitch - but now I have heat.:P:P

My kombi is pretty toasty which is a nice change as my old bus had no heat at all (no wires from dash even). I do have to have the fresh air on a bit with the heat or else I come home smelling a bit like the engine bay but no exhaust fumes i dont think (although the kids do always sleep pretty well in the back 😉 ).

Purple Martin ·

Once I've replaced my rotten exchangers, I'm thinking of running a duct from the bus cabin to the heater fan, so the air gets recycled. Should get warmer that way! (And will avoid engine bay smells, as long as there aren't any exhaust leaks in the exchangers)

Andy ·

That has been tried before, you need to disconnect the heat exchangers from the engine cooling fan for this to be effective through, as once the engine is up to driving speed it will push more air through than the electric fan (there's one way valves from each to make this work).
Also put some effort in making the bus air tight and insulated, it does make a difference. Also make sure the pipe to the front has it's insulation on also, as a lot of heat can be lost there.

Purple Martin ·

Thanks Andy, that's good advice 👍

i too was thinking of doing that, but i guess not.

My heating system is getting there, replaced the heatercables today, still gotta connect them at the front... the LHS one is a bit shorter than the other which is annoying!! its a bigger job than i though, looking forward to some crisp kombi heating soon tho!
