Shannons Insurance by far. Helpful service and prices are reasonable
theverybigtallman ·
shannons, just cars (owned by aami), or some insurance broker.
57kombi ·
You might find that Shannons will be the only ones to offer an agreed value policy on such an old car.
Just Cars is owned by AAMi and was set up for the boy racers who couldnt get insurance at other places, and for people with convictions, they just hike up the premiums.
Cheers

My bug is insured with Shannons. Shannons insure very old cars for very low premiums. Luckily I haven't had to make a claim from them yet so I don't know what they are like if you do need to make a claim. NRMA wouldn't insure my bug as it is too old for their computer system to cope with.
My kombi is insured with NRMA. The premium is very low as I also have home and contents insurance with them. I had to make a claim when my kombi's nose was smashed in, NRMA were great and paid a good repairer with no hassles.

shannons, they insured me at 19 for a very good price ( i think)

shanons cause nrma want a fortune and their classic section wont touch you if its a daily driver. besides shannons like the uder 25 drivers i classic cars
bus914 ·
the BEST insurer would be one that pays all reasonable claims. check dispute histories if its possible.
soft notch ·
My wife works for AAMI and they won't touch the '68 notch. Just cars is indeed for the drivers who can't get insurance elsewhere (because their vehicles are grey imports, heavily modified or their driving record sucks) and they charge through the nose.
Shannons is the only totally classic and older focussed company around.. and their premiums are reasonable to boot. Don't bother with anyone else.

I am surprised that AAMI has any customers I have been knocked back a couple of times from them for insurance. I am a rating 1 driver with 12 years experience with no traffic convictions and no at fault claims and they said that they wouldn't insure me because I was too young to drive a WRX ??????
RACV wouldn't even touch my oval, they just laughed. Shannons were far more helpful and were more than happy to come to the party for a reasonable cost. They have a good rep for classic cars

shannons...
and their claim service is great...my mum works in th smadh repair business...helping ppl sorting quotes...her copany NEVER had issues with shaoons...
The company (mums) did prestige autos...like merc btw etc....and the classics...she said by comparision, they loved shannons...they were always reasonable to customers...never had a problem with they own assessments of damage etc...and they alway paid quickly, which was great if the clients were concerned about who was paying what excess...(some companies make lient pay excess - even if not at fault) apparently shannons didnt...
so yeah...im on shannons bandwagon..
Midlife crisis ·
Beetle is with Shannons and they will still insure it when it becomes a baja, fastie is with RACQ but will be changed to Shannons when it comes due.
I only did the beetle insurance 3 weeks ago and the telephone service and follow up with the paperwork is commendable..........everything arrived within 2 days of the enquiry.....Great Work

Shannon's without a doubt.

Another vote for Shannons here. I have two comprehensive and one third party policy. Also House and contents as it was the cheapest with the discount being a Car policy holder. They cover collectables and memorabilia up to $10,000 in that policy also.
mscabrio ·
Does Shannon's cover collectables ? That is interesting. Thanks for posting that !
helbus ·
Here are the details from their website on the new home policy including enthusiast section. Even covers spare parts, tools etc.
my 77 bus is insured with NRMA. Costs me about $350 annual for comprehensive insurance
~air fooled~ ·
top insurance companies are suncorp, racq and aami.
nrma is the shittest of the shit, even ordering smash repairers to use used or aftermarket parts on brand spanking new cars that are involved in smashes as they dont want to pay for the quality products. you usually find also that the shittier insurance companies use the shittier smash repairs hence quality issues.
shannons sound the go for the old stuff though..

All my insurance is with NRMA except for the greenslips. They pay out easily, I would say way too easily. They assume I cant tell the dif between a hyundai and a volvo and paid out, despite me telling them I didnt hit the car they were handed a quote for. I did hit a car, just not THAT one.
AAMI have great service. The car I hit was with AAMI and they rang me at 7 that night to get the claim rolling.
I am a hypocrite though. The NRMA sucks the way they want to give out jobs. They want to make you take your car to a holding yard where repairers have to bid for it. You dont get to choose repairer it goes to cheapest quote. Now they want panelbeaters to quote over the internet by looking at pics. They actually tell you thats how you HAVE to go, but you can still get a quote from your fave panelbeater and then get 2 others to give you a dearer quote if thats what you want. I should change companies but I always let bills go to the last minute and run out of time to go shopping for quotes. Why should you have to go with the cheapest bodgiest guy with the biggest bucket of bog?

NRMA and RACV are both run by IMA. If you want more on my opinions on their system u2u me
