kombi engine rebuilds and \"the type IV store\"

Hi all,

anyone had any experience of dealing with "www.aircooledtechnology.com" - the "type IV store"?

They claim that their combinations of camshafts and cylinder sets etc. radically increase performance and fuel efficiency of Kombi engines.

Anyone have any experience of their products? Do their claims hold any water?

Also, does anyone have any figures on the costs involved in rebuilding a '79 2L Kombi gearbox?

Cheers,
Tom

Just had a 2L box rebuilt with all new seals & bearings, new crownwheel and pinion, new synchro's. Also the bellhousing was changed for another s/h one as mine had the shaft bearing flange flogged out a bit $1300+GST

Was that a new crownwheel & pinion, or another one? That is absoultely exceptional value if everything was new

I would trust the quality and advice from the type4store.

The prices for type 4 parts is getting better to.

Their is another character that has been receiving a lot of flack from shoptalkforums - type4parts.com, I can't comment there.

But as for horsepower and fuel effeciency claims I would be cautious.

Cheers

If you get onto http://www.shoptalkforums.com you'll find that Jake Raby (the man behind www.aircooledtechnology.com) has a huge following. I couldn't imagine you going wrong getting stuff from him as long as your wallet can cope!

Cool - thanks for advice guys - that all adds up.

We've decided to go ahead with the rebuild and restore the rest later.

Can't wait to drive it with a restored engine in it!
