Okay, hi everyone, my mate has a couple of dubs, but wants to work on one to make it roadworthy and safe for him to drive for when he gets his learners next year. His dad is willing to help him out with the construction and the funding (lucky bastard, lol 馃榾)

However, this dub he has been modified (i'm yet to know if it has been certifed for its modification). The roof has been cut off, and is now a mad convertible that he drives around in the backyard. He has a roll bar on it, to which he will later properly fit. However, because the roof has been cut off, he needs something to seriously strengthen up the floor pan besides using the roll bar.

However, NOTE: His dub is to be a streetster, and not an offroad, so a body lift kit would not be suitable (unless anyone can/knows someone who can supply a shorter lift kit, say 1 inch or something that doesn't give much of a noticable height difference but strengthens it). 馃檨

So yeah, just wondering who would have any suggestions or ideas (wateva really), to how he can strengthen up his street, convertible bug chassis besides using a roll bar or a high up body lift kit?

All help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone. :thumb:alien

Oh, by saying that i feel as though a body lift kit would not be suitable for a streetster is that it would give it a high stance and high wheel clearance that would look a bit odd for the streetster (i would imagine).... 馃榾nn[ Edited on 15/7/2005 by mynameischris88 ]

I have seen a buggy with RHS which was seam welded around the periphery of the pan, it gave it so much torsional rigidity that reversing diagonally out of a driveway it'd lift up one of its wheels 馃檪

A few stitch welds on top of the spot welds that holds the pan halves in wouldn't go astray either

hmm, true. Thanks mate. What that like a welded, flat extra steel plate over it or something? or just reinforcment of the welds already there?

just a reinforcement of the welds there, it also might make replacing the pans more difficult. Although I think the most gain would be from doing teh whole RHS frame thing

what does the RHS abbreviation stand for, soz, im just new to it. I don't really know any other forms of support besides lift kits and roll bars.

if the car isnt registered and doesnt have an engineers for the roof chop then your best bet would be to consult and engineer. explain to him exactly whats been done or even better show him the car. and ask for what he would require to be done for him to pass the vehicle. i would suggest your get any other mods done at the same time and get them all engineered in one go.

Rectangular Hollow Section. Basically steel which is rectangular in profile, there are standard sizes if you look on the BHP website.
