Guys/girls
Anybody that knows what it costs to restore one of these will know how cheap this really is. There is absolutely no rust in this and i have some photo's of the resto if required.

is this bus sold yet?

Not yet, have a guy from Sydney coming to look but is still for sale and good value for anyone not wanting to go through the years of pain and money drain to get one of these up to scratch.

Ok so I have reduced the price to get some interest going. Price is now $16700
This bus has had everything done, basically the bottom 6 inches around the entire car has been removed and replaced along with all the ususal body work. All steel, no bog. All window frames have been restored. Body work alone cost 10000.
Totally fish oiled to prevent rust. Chromed front badge, powder coated bumpers and wheels, new hub caps, brake lights, indicators, eye lashes, torsion bars, elephant ear mirrors etc.
This car has been restored to original.
Inside all new door trims, new curtains, knobs, bed installed (can be taken out very quickly if necessary) inside panel work repainted, new chrome window latches and runners, felts etc.
Engine is a 1600 runs well, new dizzy, carb serviced and regular services done. New brake lines, accel cable, brake master cylinder, shoes, drums shaved, just spent $1100 on brakes.
I am only selling this car as i now have a work car which is paid for and cannot justify having this beautiful bus sitting idle in the garage. I have pictures of the resto if required (only hard copies).
My number is 0408640066 or email me at benobass@hotmail.com to ask questions or arrange an inspection.

VW community, do you think i am asking too much for this bus?
It has been professionally done and is not modified at all....tried to keep it totally original.
I see a lot of people jumping at the chance to buy a bus for 3k un-restored but i am sure these people either have no idea how much it actually costs or they skimp,,,,,there has been NO skimping on this bus......
Thoughts?????

Looks dam good to me, I think you just have to sit on it until the right buyer comes along who has got the cash to splash.
If you check out Car Sales.com.au there has been a few sitting on there for atleast a month or two at a price alot higher than yours....Good luck.
tinman ·
I'm also very suprised no one has jumped at the chance to grab the bus. It looks very nice!
I only wish I had the money atm.
It would be sad to see it go to the UK, I hope someone here picks it up quickly.

Seems like a fair price if not damn right cheap.
Same old story though, if you want to sell it you stand more chance putting it in Just Cars or thesamba.com
Good luck with the sale

Professionally done and all, it seems like a reasonable price to me: looks sweet as! One thing though, I reckon the people buying unrestored ones cheap may well realise that they're up for 20K in the long run, but it's a lot easier to part with a little at a time than one big chunk. Also, my own perception (if it was a bus that was somewhat well known) would be that it would always be known as so-and-so's old bus, rather than my bus. Not necessarily logical hey, but they're my thoughts. I'd feel bad doing much customizing on something that someone else had spent a lot of time and effort.
Good luck there man!

As with all trying to sell yo must be patient & the right buyer will come along

bump me up!
66kombi ·
Thanks for the opinion, i like it and i am sure that someone else will too. The bed etc can be taken out in about 5 mins. I wanted the bed so i could use the bus practically and show it off on the road when i went away for a weekend. if that doesn't suit the buyer then it is just as easy to slot a row of seats in.
The interior pant is the colour the outside should be, i got the lotus white done and decided i liked it that way. I still have the sea blue 2 pac which will go to the buyer and would be an easy finish.

Still for sale and will consider any reasonable offer

Have you thought about getting a NSW blueslip for it. Might increase your chances of sale in NSW. Also was it a microbus originally as it seems to have the microbus chrome strips on the interior front door panels
Nicko
crewcabconnection ·
no don't think you're asking too much ... but maybe the AVD audience isn't the right one ... everyone loves a bargain, my experience is that it's more so on here as we're all such experts ay....😀.
Anyone that's restored one properly or is resporing one properly will vouch for the value for money aspect. Thought about selling it to the pommies????
66kombi ·
Am not sure if it is a microbus or not...the chrome strips were on the old panels..I just put them on the new ones.
Crewman
I have thought about selling it to the pommies....any ideas for web sites that may be good to advertise on?
I have sold 3 Kombi's on www.ebay.com.au. You can use it as a tool for very cheap advertising and if you set a higher start price you will not have to risk the sale. I find that most people that are after a car will come and look and it and offer to settle off ebay anyway.
Good Luck with the sale,
Luke

I really like this bus and would have test driven were I not 9000 miles away and arriving on the wrong side of Aus!
Be Patient, and please dont bring it over here 🙁
Sam (UK, soon to be AUS)
66kombi ·
Thanks for the selling tips guys...will try the samba and carsales.com.au.....
I suppose i have to be patient selling a bus at this price!

bus356 ·
I sold a splitty recently and advertised on here, ebay and The Samba.
Got heaps of inquiry from all over Oz from ebay and the guy who ended up buying originally saw it on ebay. He bought it after the auction ended. The ad cost me $14 with 12 pics and got over 1000 hits in 7 days. Got about the same on here (AVD) in about three weeks. Had someone from the UK inquire off the ebay ad too.
With the Samba ad, got three or four people from the UK inquire and had a couple genuinely interested at a higher price than what I advertised it for here but that option takes time and I didn't really want it to go over there anyway, unless the price was too good to pass up.
Another thing I was going to try was parking it somewhere on weekends... the car itself is a great ad.
Sounds like a bargain to me, good luck!
66kombi ·
Bus now on ebay and the samba....will wait and see.

NigeType3 ·
I love the look of it but when I see the interior is a different colour I go yuck.
If i was parting with those sort of bucks id want it all to be one colour.
Providing the paint isn't an option id take up especially when I like the exterior colour more.
66kombi ·
yeh i can understand that some people would not be too fussed on th interior colour being different. What happened was i had the interior painted (orig colour) then planned to get the bottom half done outside. When the lotus white was applied i liked it and left it. I still have the sea blue which would be an easy finish for someone.
I have been quoted $900 to finish it, i just don't want to because a) i like it how it is and b) i want to sell it as i have a compnay car and really cannot justify the extra money......
I would consider dropping some of the price to offset the cost of finishing.
66 kombi
Samblers ·
I'm the opposite - I would paint the outside sea blue (and white) to match the interior 🙄
The thing that puts me off is that the paint job has obviously been done very well (although in two colours), and I would find it hard to justify painting over what is clearly nice paint
If its only $900 though, then maybe I'd get the work done and it'll sell straight away
Sam
(If it was in WA i'd probably have bought it by now and done the work meself)
toecutter ·
(If it was in WA i'd probably have bought it ) [/quote]
Fly over($400) and buy:thumb Easy!
Samblers ·
did consider that, but thats a big outlay just to SEE a van
could just freight it, but then would you buy a $16k van without looking (and pay freight?)...?
difficult one, as it needs an interior to be useable, and so it has to be taken to WA where our folks are, tsch
66kombi ·
Sam,
If you know anyone in Sydney or Newcastle then they may be able to look at it for you. I can always send more pics or get a mechanic to check it out for you....just a thought..
I am somewhat flexible on the price which may make the freight cheaper???
Ben
Samblers ·
Hi Ben
The pics you sent me were excellent, thanks... because of our situation this is one of those times when its all just a bit too complicated, so we're trying to restrict our search to WA.
Its a cool bus, and I hope someone grabs what seems to be a bargain (but not a Brit!)
Sam

hey man this still avail..
just been lookin at the pics and the BLUE inner paint lost me as long as the bed, but that my taste..
orig seats would be nice etc.. but you never know someone will get it one day..
hang in there n a free bump ..
Oily ·
here here i have to agree
66kombi ·
See this is what i don't get about this site...plenty of f@#kheads ready to bag out a car. Now when someone posts a car for sale there shouldn't be a whole heap of idiots giving their negative opinion on it.
I see it time and time again, dickheads with nothing better to do than bag out someone elses car. If you havn't got anything positive to say then say nothing.
I am sure if all you negative people put pics of your car on here we could all pick them to bits too.
h ·
meow man..
cant take constructive critisism, you need a reality check, just trying to give you a heads up on why it might not have sold yet..
but if you want to carry on like a sow n sow the bus warrants no further input good or not so good..
get a grip and have a nice day... :jesus man
like i said "you never know someone will get it one day.."
turboL ·
man its a lovely bus and the more ridgy didge you make it the more likely ur to sell it but I have restoed several bugs and buses and you never ever get back what you put in,its sad but true I just spent 2 years on a 76 beetle and at least $10g and I was happy to get $5g for it and that took best part of a year with 101 tyre kickers and idiots till I found the right dude, but if you are not in a hurry hang in there someone will appreciate all the blood sweat and tears try ebay or the english market my splitty owes me 20k so they can bury me in it as Ill never get back what its worth,I might sound a bit pessimistick but thats my experiance so good luck and hang out for the right buyer
kombi-troppo ·
I love your van! If I had more dosh it would be parked in my garage👍
twoguns ·
you say new indicators. what are those front ones? htere dont seem to be a aurround on em?
bus356 ·
Some of you people really need to get outside and make some 'real' friends... and maybe then you could even gang up on 'real' people!
66kombi ·
2guns,
I bought them off a guy on AVD. They are new, not old stock, they are orange.
66kombi
66kombi ·
I must clarify that my 'statement' was not only aimed at my own post but those that others post. I see it time and time again where someone posts a car for sale and people post replies stating it is overpriced, that they would do this and that with it etc etc. It is a little disheartening for those who have spent many dollars, time and effort on their cars only to have 'cyber' people bag them out....thats all.......I know that we all have difffernt taste but keep the negative stuff to yourself....sorry to the people who took offence who are not in the practice of bagging cars.

I cant believe this hasnt sold yet
Park it by the beach at Manly with a 'for sale' sign in and wait an hour 😉

Thanks to AVD....
Bus is going to Melbourne as we speak, you may see it on the road down there. Thanks to Mark, nice easy transaction.
