There is much debate on this rubbish.
Rat is something put together on a shoestring budget.... getting it runung stopping and all that "important" shit big motor is fine but is usually what is lying around or is free but COMPLETE and FULLY FUNCTIONAL paint can be shit or it can be primer it doesnt matter, but they say "Primer is just stage, not a finish".... this is how the trend got started through hotrods of back in the day, dont believe it .... goto the HAMB and ask.
A car like some of the above with a stock engine, good wheels or stocks, no windows and all that shit. That falls under the category of a "Hoodride" check it out. i see there is an aussie syndicate aswell...nn[ Edited on 25-7-2005 by Adam_C ]

Added unpolished empi 5's,rusty suction cap rack,long board on top,
Rusty coke esky,dented 1976 jerry can and won best rat at the local show.

i won a trophy for best splitty once with my matt black jobbie. wasnt much comp. actually for a while i was 1 of only 2 or 3 splitties that would turn up at a show.

3 of us drove there.
1 bloke just unloaded a rusty piece of crap off a trailer and pushed it into position.
Wasnt even a driver.

different people have different ideas of what a rat is
just like people have different ideas on what makes good art.
i don't think people should say that a car is not a rat because it doesnt have......
