It seems the local youth have given up their assault on garbage bins. They have turned to letter box destruction. Woke up this morning to find my mailbox busted (they couldnt rip it out cos I stuck it to a solid steel gatepost driven 3 foot in the ground with 40kg of concrete when they broke the cast stand it was on a few years ago) Next door neighbours also had their box ripped off and CD's stolen from their car. I went for a drive and saw 8 others broken. The CD's were found broken in the park down the street.

The thing that pisses me off is that I heard them. I usually get up and check out any noises and usually the are just being loud and abnoxious walking up the street. Last night was about 1:30am, i'd not long turned the lights out and I was too lazy to get up. spewin.

Why the hell are mailboxes so expensive. Wish I was still at BHP, id make one out of 1/4 inch plate and weld it to the post to complete the indestructable mailbox.

helbus ·

They seem to have so much energy for wrecking stuff, but can't be bothered getting out of bed to do a decent days work.

yep, we had "the bush" which is now some mythical beast controlled by the EPA, local govt, doo gooders and buerocrats because it needs the highest level of protection.

i and all my ilk would all prob be street kids/criminals if we hadnt had a country upbringing where it was clear... we could do wat we wanted in "the bush" as long as it didnt involve the bush fire brigade or the cops. but in town around other people, you had to tow the line...

take "the bush" away and the current guys take theyre risks and do theire antisocial stuff on suburbia....

:alien

squizy ·

I put a brick or two inside of my letter box just to watch them limp after they kick it.

helbus ·

I grew up in the country with 'the bush'

We made cubbies, rode motorbikes, camped out, shot bow 'n' arrows, air rifles, chopped trees down with tomahawks, everything that regenerated quite quickly. As we got older we kissed girls, drank a bit of Stones Green Ginger wine, and smoked.

The same story, no fires and no illegal stuff (well sort of)

If we ever touched anything that belonged to anyone else, the whole town knew about it by the next day, and the shame was the biggest punishment. Kids today have no pride and no shame.

fetid_swamp ·

we got a young bloke at work and i make fun of him.. he has all the pent up angst and rebellion that i had but.. he's got everything. he's got no worries about money, no worries about girls, no worries about his future but he still has the young blokey natural need to take ristks and rage against...

as a take off the RATM song killing in the name of... i amp him up with a clenched fist...
saying rage.. rage against.. nothing !!!!

we can only really measure things against our own personal expeiences...
sad to say but we need a bit of hardship to realise when we got things good...
eek. now i sound old....

Doug Sweetman ·

I like Amazerx idea, you gotta make one out of 1/4" plate and make it look standard..... it would take a shitload of abuse to damage that..... plus you could set a video camera up to see their faces when they smash their favourite baseball bat on your innocent little letterbox...... priceless.

1303Steve ·

Hi

You need to make a removable mail box, that's what is done by people that live near pubs in Sydney, they take them in every Friday - Sunday night. At least they didint blow them up with bungers.

Steve

akean1 ·

i grew up up near bush aswell, lots of mucking around in the river, cubby huts, mountain missions, stones wine, orange and vodka in a cask, nasty cheap port, and on the odd ocasion we would pull out letter boxes and give them new homes up the street. i dont know why, but it seemed like fun back then

amazer ·

When I was a boy.... these are the worst things that me and my mates got up to.

A: snuck in the side door of the pub and did some underage drinking.
B: went into a st kilda strip club underage
C: a mate smashing a few beer bottles when he was drunk and his girl dumped him.
D: speeding
E: one of my mates stole a house reel out of someone front yard. Well it wasnt the innocent 40's and 50's you just shouldnt leave stuff outside.
F: peer group pressure made me suck on a bong once.
G: fill up a coles shopping trolley and then leave it.
H: paying Luke the hose thief 50 cents to pinch hot girls bums at the shoppping centre.
I: Luke would also eat his bus ticket in front of the inspector and drive him nuts.

I have no bush near me. I had computer games. The difference is that the arseholes these days get a kick out of being lawless. The bad things we did were either fun things or perceived fun things. I dont know how destroying property is fun. They just have no respect. Its the same as the burnouts and stuff. You could build a free burnout pad in any suburb but they wouldnt use it because its the lawlwssness they crave and you get more of a kick out of telling your mates to go and look at the donut you did in the main street

Hmm piching girls bums was fun back then but would be seen as more serious harassment today. I guess I WAS one evil little shit. bad karma man.

when ya dad never had a job and ya mum just hangs around home and smokes, you've no idea what work is. besides, the govt gives you all the money you need and anything extra, you just steal. there are heaps of kids who have this experience, they're probably the ones doing this sort of thing.

or worse still, their parents are high or drunk and beat the *^&$ out of them. staying out of home is a survival technique and smashing your letter box means not taking their anger out on another person. i'm not justifying it, but this is real. the world is not a happy place for a lot of kids.

pyr0 ·

when i was younbg..hell i still am. but we dont destoy other peoples stuff. for starters if my olds found out i'd get an ass kicking but also i just cant fathem the point of doing it, i mean sure the kids might get a rush out of it, but whjen i was younger we use to get a massive rush out of flying down a big hill on a skate board, or going off a bike jump.....

dunno maybe i just missed out on the distructive group satges, and im 19 :duh

mscabrio ·

I was a bit of a naughty little tacker but I would have got my ass kicked if I did stuff like that. The kids around my area are like little hodlums. They are out all hours of the day and night, screaming and swearing. Parents don't give a damn. I caught some of them throwing rocks at my cat and I told them off and went to their parents house and told their parents off and one mother asked me what I expected to do and that it wasn't fair that she should be expected to be stuck with her kid 24/7. I was like "hello", he's your kid not mine. Why should I parent him ? If you want me to look after him, then you had better pay me child support ! Haven't seen the kid since ! hehehehe

pod ·

i can see what Pete is getting at ,there are families out there that are 4th generation non-workers who live off the government and dont know how to break the cycle 🙁,but i have had my letterbox vandalised years ago and this was by kids in school uniform on there way to sport, still some of the younger generation has no respect for other people or the law😬

im 18...have done a lot of bad stuff in my time...dont really want to say as i know i will probably get slaughtered by most of the ol timers on this forum ( no hard feelings just cos ya old) hehe.

but yeah. im attempting to straighten up my act now.

things include many a broken letterbox, bricks + windows = cool noise when drunk or high.

yeah..i will stop before it gets to the bad stuff.

but i udnerstand why we do it as teenagers..its not exactly a good reason but there is a reason.

i mean..when you were REALLY young..and your folks told you not to do something...didnt it become so much more fun when you did it?. cos it did for me anyway.

and yeah. due to the copius amounts of laws and restraints put on society these days people find doing certain things so much more fun with the risk of being caught. young people like myself dont like the idea of living an uneventful life. and unfortunately..most events when young in this day and age require doing SOMETHIGN illegal..cant say im overly destructive anymore. but illegal things are always being done. if we see a construction site we wanna go have a look at. its illegal to go on there .etc

all a load of shit in my opinion.

okay you can all have ya shots at me now if u want. im braced and prepared 🙂

Hopefully when your car gets broken into, keyed or stolen, or your house and other property is stolen and destroyed you will be able to see the funny side. You'll be able to sit back and laugh, feeling sorry for the poor little buggars who arent allowed to go onto building sites.

Believe me that the sound of broken glass isnt quite as cool, when you are on the other side, struggling to pay the mortgage, and then have to find the money for window replacement. Perhaps you need to go and find out what a letterbox costs, or what replacement glass costs. The fact that you can laugh it off makes things worse. If having to pay out hundreds of dollars per year combatting arseholes like you makes me very opinionated, then so be it.

byronbus ·

We used to have a big paddock in Baulkham Hills and it became the local burnout strip at night, so oneday my father and his mate borrowed a bob cat and dug trenches across the paddock, it didnt take long before the grass grew back, gee it was funny to hear these young guys damage their cars as the did burnouts and ended up in the ditch, many a sunday morning my father would practice his golf on the paddock using these guys cars as target practice...what goes around comes around

71superbug ·

i know the prices of letterboxes. hehe it helps having a dad that is a manager at bunnings. lol

but i know what ya mean...and the fact that i can laugh it off in MY opinion is a good thing..no point stressing over what has already been done.

Anthony

pete wood ·

Superbug,
I see your point about there being no place to blow off steam, and there being silly laws, but that not really an excuse.

Dare I say it, but if you were really serious about learning from your mistakes, you could go and offer to pay for all the things you broke. Then people you wronged, like Amazer and myself, might actually repsect to you. (I've had 2 letterboxes broken and my house egged and a brick thrown at it for no reason whatsoever.) Growing up isn't just about looking back and regretting things, my baby daughter can do that, it's about owning up and paying for what you wrecked. Are you man enough to grow up?

BTW, what were your parents when you were out doing this stuff? If they knew what you were up to they deserve a kick in the bum too. Feel like laughing about this stuff now? :o

Doug Sweetman ·

well spoken Pete Wood and Amazer. Everyone is not perfect, but its whether you can admit your mistakes and make good that makes the difference.

I remember a feller called Amrozi in Bali a year or two ago that could laugh it off, and wasnt stressed about what had already been done.

amazer ·

I've just spent a couple of hours down the garage making up a new lid for my mailbox. Not sure about opinionated, by I tell you what I am very vindictive. Rather than clean up the edges to make them safe, I have ground, filed, and honed them to an approximate 15 degree knife edge on all sides other than the posty side.

So when the pricks come back and try it again, they wont only be leaving finger prints, but they will also be leaving finger tips. I know that I could get into more trouble than the criminal by doing this, but call me old fashioned, I think it will be fun.

In speaking to some other people with similar problems I also have a few more solutions. I guy wrapped a string of barbed wire underneath the lid of his, another person who was having trouble with people climbing up onto a 2nd story verandah siliconed bits of broken glass around the edge. Apparently the sight of blood goes a long way towards compensation.

If you are bored and feel the need to trash other peoples belongings, may I offer these suggestions. This is what I used to do in my youth.

Go and hang out at the shopping centre and socialise.
Get on your bike and ride to the beach.
Go fishing.
Catch the bus into town and see a movie.
Catch the bus into town and watch some football.
You and your mates could actually go to a park and PLAY football, or cricket with your mates.
Sign up for indoor cricket/soccer/something.
Go for a ride on your bike to nowhere, just to see how fast you can get there.
Go to the gym and perv on the girls doing aerobics.
Go down to the skate park and roller blade or skateboard, or bmx.

If you must be a criminal, go and shoplift at Kmart or somewhere. At least they can jack the prices up to pay for it.

Dont give me shit that boredom causes this vandalism. The only thing that does it is deliquency, lack of morals, lack of respect.

[Edit: fix typos and add another couple of suggestions]

that'll teach the little shits.

right, well..i'm 19 as most of you know..but i don't go around destroying shit (apart from the gravel in an unamed carpark :P)..and i didn't do it when i was younger either.

my parents were strict..you do something wrong..dad would give me a clip around the ear..and i wouldn't do it again...simple.. but yeh..the majority of damage is done (in my opinion) out of pure boredom! people are bored..like when i'm bored..i come on the computer..but i could go and be destructive...but anyway..the gym (and nice ladies) are closer too..so why bother!

pete wood ·

I have a close mate who has a son in his twenties. They were doing up a VW dub some years back and it belonged to the son. Dad came home with heaps of new parts to find his wife in the kitchen in a very upset mood. Apparently the son had told his mum to "p#ss off". He'd been warned never to be rude to his mother and so it was no surprise when his dad gave him a back hander that knocked him flying and the new parts for the kid's car went back to the shop (much to my mates disappointment, they were rare). Now i don't know if I'd do quite the same thing, but he has a great relationship with his son and his son knows that he is serious when he warns him and the son has grown up into a responsible adult. My parents were the same, they took responsibility for us. My butt would't have been able to touch the seat for a month if i'd got up to anything like the garbage 71 is "laughing off".

Now these days, parents don't want this respsonsibility. They try to farm it out to the schools, the cops and anyone else they can think of. My brother is a teacher and you wouldn't believe some of crap hes seen because of this. If you're a parent and you're reading this, do you know where your kids are and what they are doing? If you don't it's time to wake up. Loving your kids doesn't mean letting them do what ever, it means giving them reasonable boundaries and making them responsible for their actions. And if they screw up, don't just cover for them, make them live with the consequences.

Sorry to get on my soapbox, but I think given the discussion we are having it's worth saying.
:o
nn[ Edited on 2-8-2005 by pete wood ]

zac_smits ·

this may seem like a silly question..probably because i'm young...

but why do people get onto a soap-box?

Bizarre ·

Maybe i am old but in the old days down at the Domain people rather than ranting their beliefs on the internet they went down to the Domain with their soap box (ie solid wood box) and sprouted their beliefs where they could stand up above the crowd.

If you go there on a sunny Sunday there is still the old lecture being sprouted.

twoguns ·

a long time ago. you would go down to the corner or town square with a 'soap box' or 'crate', stand on this and then talk ot the people. the saying has stuck, but now is more a slang for 'preaching'.

byronbus ·

Haha, get pics amazer next friday and saturday night of the blood and finger tips...But have the file ready to get rid of the sharp edges, these little pricks probably have parents who are likely to sue if it means they can remain on the dole for another few years...

pete wood ·

Byronbus, if you get a whole lot o money out of a courtcase or the lottery or whatever, they actually stop you getting the dole. coz you don't need it...😉

ColumBUS ·

i think the worst thing ive ever done is stolen a bar stool from towradgi sports bar on origin 2 night. other than that fairly straight.
another good one is pushing a mate around in a shopping trolley. for extra laughs, pad him up and hit the local skate park. if you dont have friends, a homeless person and/or librarian should suffice.

pod ·

well said Pete Wood , all they need to do now is make the parents responsible for any monetary compensation if caught vandalising things, and yes i have 3 teenagers who are kept on a tight rein and would get a kick up the arse if caught doing anything like the above👍

amazer ·

I think its a bit hard for a parent to keep tabs on a teenager. I never told my parents I was going to the pub, but I imagine they knew after the fact when I came home giggling after a night at "the movies". And if I was staying out all night I could hardly say, "Liz's parents are away so Im going over for a weekend of shagging see you sunday night". I guess even before those years I could have said I was going anywhere other than where I was going. But they always knew what I had been up to afterwards, because of empty bottles at parties, sometimes there would be a girls handbag left in the lounge, and got busted a couple of times practicing the karma sutra.

I only have the one kid and thats how its likely to stay. She is only 7 and theres a lot of times for things to go wrong, but I think we're on the right path. She's too busy to learn anything wrong. Swimming ballet, athletics, reading, Simpsons and piano take up her entire life.

There was a phase not long ago when she started lying about things she'd done. Sometimes they were stupid things that she wouldnt have gotten in trouble for if she hadnt lied. Things like putting on her own nail polish. So she learnt quick smart that if she lies about something, she will get in twice as much trouble as what she would get into for doing the thing she was covering up. Forced to lay on her bed for 1/2 hour without moving just for using her makeup. Silly. So within a couple of weeks she was confessing to everything. She broke an egg on the kitchen floor and smeared it everywhere trying to clean up before coming in and confessing. Although I really wanted to go nuts about the mess, she had learnt a moral lesson of honesty so couldnt say anything but thankyou.

Oh another thing against the parental guidance argument is that I have known a family with 4 kids since I was 5 years old. 3 grew up normal responsible people, 1 was in and out of jail and ended up dying of a heroin overdose. So I dont really know the secret of good parenting, just be there, care, and cross the fingers I think... unless you left them on someones mailbox 🙂 Perhaps I should make 2 lids and swap them over when I find some leftover digits.

pete wood ·

amazer wrote:But they always knew what I had been up to afterwards...
that's the point I was trying to make. 🙂

And it sounds like they actually did something about it.

BTW, who's Liz?

Reason I ask is, I'm married to a Liz.:vader

71superbug ·

well pete wood.

i appreciate your opinion on this matter..and believe me you these thigns have stopped since i have found a hobby that keeps me entertained...that being cars.

also...i know you didnt know but i think having a shot at me for laughing it off is pretty pathetic..would you rather people stress out over it therefore getting pissed off and more destructive?

i know what i did was wrong..i have paid my dues (in $$$ and many conversation with the people/police).
so to get someone telling me i shouldnt just laugh it off is out of order in my opinion. everyone has the ability to stop doing something and attempt to lead a happy life.

some people should learn to appreciate that instead of worrying about such things.

i mean wouldnt you think it the right thing if the kid that smashed your mailbox or window or whatever came upto you and offered to pay for it the day after? or would you still think he should feel bad forever about what he has done and sit in the corner to slit his wrists and write poetry? i did not ruin anything of YOURS so i think taking personal digs is uncalled for.

and also...no parents did not know....they have brought me up very well believe it or not. do i seem like that much of a wanker?

I'm with Pete wood on this one. If I got up to anything and got caught when I was a kid I got my arse kicked hard. Taught me right from wrong. Problem today is it's all softly softly and dont yell. My 2 daughters (6 & 8) know when they're in trouble. My missus hates it but it is what I was brought up with. i tried it her way and it doesn't work for me.

Best punishment I have come up with so far is 1/2 and hour sitting in the laundry / bathroom. No toys or computers to play with.

pete wood ·

71superbug wrote:..and believe me you these thigns have stopped since i have found a hobby that keeps me entertained...that being cars.
that's the whole point, I don't own a letterbox so people can smash it for their own entertainment. It was wrong in the first place.
71superbug wrote:also...i know you didnt know but i think having a shot at me for laughing it off is pretty pathetic..would you rather people stress out over it therefore getting pissed off and more destructive?
No I don't think it is pathetic. Maybe if someone had had a shot at you before and made you pay for it, you wouldn't have done it again. ever heard the expression, "Money talks, bullcrap walks", well it works both ways, if you had to shell out everytime, you;d have stopped a lot faster.

I'm pleased you payed your dues now, but don't laugh about it, it's still wrong.

Yes. No.
It hurts when people make you feel bad about stuff you know you shouldn't have done. It's called having a conscience. A conscience is a good thing, be ashamed and then get over it, just like you said.
But please don't ask other people, especially those who've been on the other end of such behaviour, to let you off. Coz they won't.

Sounds to me like you're well on the way to be a good bloke Anthony. I only say this stuff coz I think its better if you hear it. Imagine if no one ever told you when you were wrong. You end up like...like...ummm....President Clinton. :P

They went and bought themselves a custom reinforced steel letterbox that looks like and ordinary tin one. In the middle of the night they awoke to pained screams... the idiot had kicked it and broken his foot HEHEHE...

Letterbox: 1
Dumbass: Nil

zac_smits ·

that'd be bloody funny to come out and see at night though..

your mailbox standing proud..and a kid on the ground in screams of pain...

Purple Martin ·

I just hope the postie doesn't get cut. If he does, I hope you pay him full medical expenses plus compensation for loss of earnings, pain, etc. Also hope you pay same for any innocent kids bringing round leaflets who lose a finger. Jeez man, THINK before you go leaving dangerous weapons in places where innocent people are likely to get hurt.

amazer ·

ive said te posty side is ok. There is only 1 person who is allowed to go near my mailbox.. the man on the honda step through. The sign on the mailbox will tell anyone else they are not welcome. Anyone simply lifting the lid wont cut themselves. My 7 yr old runs to the mailbox every day after school so I wouldnt do that. The only person who will hurt themselves are the ones who grap hold of it and try to rip it off. And I dont give a toss about them. I do not have any respect or care for anyone trying to destroy my property. The posty side is not sharp, all edges have been smoothed and all corners removed and rounded off. After I got the postcard i went and rubbed my thumb on it way harder than anyone doing legitimate business will, and it didnt hurt didnt cut.

I lived in semi-bush area, did all the cubby house/tree house, fishing, bike riding, sport type stuff. I remember once my neighbour and i started a fire (i was probably 5/6), we put it out quickly but was grounded for a week and have not done it again.

I think its a complete lack of imagination. I remember if my dad heard me say i was bored he would get cross and tell me to go outside and do something or he will give me something to do. Now i am very resourceful and really enjoy outside stuff.

Many people now days are incapable of amusing themselves without the use of some sort of computer game, TV or some such mindless entertainment (don’t get me wrong they are fun but people need to get out more and have some diversity). Between the ages of 0-20 is when peoples brains develop. When you get to 20 it stops developing, what you got is what you got at 20. It is really really important that in the first 2 years of life that you use as much of your brain as possible, thus you need to use your imagination. So NO picture books just stories without pictures so you imagine stuff, no movies or graphic games, lots and lots of hand eye coordination and getting infants to follow something with their eyes. this will ensure they develop as much of their brain as possible and wont end up like someone who whinges about being bored.

I think it’s healthy, to a degree, to have guilty conscience. Too many people are blasé about bad things they have done. We have a regular mail thief, and it shits me everytime to find open mail on the ground.

Actually, (as a dip ed student) I think it's really important for children to have picture story books. Equally as important to be read to, but the pictures are important too. Can't come up with justification for age 0-2 right now (c'mon, it's late), but I hope you aren't saying no picture books for any age?? Children who are learning to read need the pictures as an aid in their reading, it gives them clues to what the story is about.

Just had to say something there... sorry Chris for hijacking your thread.

The problem people, is discipline.
There's no way to enforce it any more.

When I was a teenager;
You played up at school, you got "six of the best".
You played up in public, the local sargeant would stick a size 11 up your arse.
No one questioned your father's authority.

The upshot being; if you stepped out of line, you were brought back in. Swiftly - painfully if need be.

You wouldn't try to pat a dog that was barking at you cause you'd get bit. Same principle. If you knew your actions would result in the infliction of pain, you thought twice.

Doesn't happen anymore. The bleeding hearts have stuffed it all up.
Schools & the coppers have their hands tied behind their back. They're doing their level best to nobble the parents rights to discipline their own children.
Then to top it all off, they're making sure the kids know no one can touch them!
So what hope has anyone got?

Then, just to add insult to injury, the same bleeding hearts are on tv, bleeting about wild youth & how parents should pay for the damage their children cause.

The end result being, the first real taste of discipline they get is standing before the court, or they mouth off to the wrong person & the parents get the phone call that they're in hospital..or worse.

All joking aside, with the mouth on my 15 year old son, I'm fully expecting that phone call.

flashman ·

Spook, you got it in one dude. The drama is this, when they get to court, childrens court is a joke. The magistrates are the most liberal of all Courts and kids short of murder get off first time, second time, third time, forth time, etc............

What about people like my Gran. She lives on her own and when she hears things like kids walking up the street smashing letterboxes at 1am, she is petrified that they are going to escalate and break into her home. Plus the fact that she can't afford to replace the letter box when the little s**ts wreck it!!!
If my kids came anywhere close to doing stuff like that, they would be locked in their rooms, writing bloody lines or something.....as well as going to each and every place they vandalised to apologise and paying to replace the letterbox!!!
yup, i'm a harda*s on my kids...our son was an accomplice to puncturing a girls tyre at school....he's 10, the school gave him an internal suspension for one day, I made him write an apology, pay for the tyre, banned him off tv for a week, and all computers/video games for a month. Believe me, he wont be doing anything like that again in a hurry....missing the simpsons for a week is a killer for a 10 year old boy!! lol

dubbill ·

ha hows this all our councillors (read fat cat ba#@$$ds) just had a days meeting to try n ban a video game thats called graffitti,; main objetive is tagging or spray painting the more dangerous the more points i have to agree there really is no need for these types of games so i guess its ack to shooting cops stealing cars n destroying stuff while looking after your" bitch ho"prostitutes n dealing your drugs in grand theft auto!!!!!!
:crywheres the justice whens the revolution???

bobupp ·

and we say todays youth is naughty.......................................................

But as opposed to that, at least we could wander around without fear of being "taken".
Maybe this is why we have become masters of the indoors!!

pete wood ·

"taken"?, you mean by aliens right...:alien

anyone want a VK commodore wagon? I think someone has dumped it out front. Has no door locks in it, pretty rough and have never seen it before. I reckon you could pick up some nastee girlz/boyz n do some nastee lovin in the back of it. Maybe its from the grand servo heist of yesterday afternoon... should have filled the getaway car up with fuel while they were there.

Midlife crisis ·

I have an 18yr boy and a 21yo girl, both of whom were kept far to busy to get into trouble..........Our theory was if they had plenty to do they couldn't get bored or start hanging around with the wrong people. It worked.........both have excellent jobs and we have never had a problem with either..............and both know that they aren't too old for a clip over the ear if they do get into trouble.

aggri1 ·

Heh you guys are all so funny. I notice often on internet forums (OK, this is the third time I think, here & at the Samba), that when someone does something wrong which is destructive, there's a great violent backlash. Like someone doin' a hit and run on someone's splitty resulted in people saying that they wanted to take a crankshaft (honest! and a door) to the guy who did it.

Sure it's wrong to do these kind of things, but violent responses drag you down to the level of an American. Eh, I mean, a ... well you get the point.

Having said that, I do agree that there is a problem with discipline these days. Parents, and more generally all of society, seem to think that we should no longer be liable for our own actions and responsibilities (like our kids, for example: "it wasn't fair that she should be expected to be stuck with her kid 24/7" - mscabrio. That kind of thinking seems insane to me).

Something is fundamentally wrong with this refusal to be responsible. Seems like too many people just haven't grown up. Too many freakin' lawyers, or a corrupt/dysfunctional legal system, I don't know... Where's it start?

Take it easy folks!

hey chris i thought you would get a laugh out of this, i got it from one of the blokes at work who always has a rant prepared and its appropriate to the subject too. well here enjoy

Dear Irresponsible Frost-ing Breeders,

I know this may be hard to read, what with your 16 chillruns running about
the Sporting Goods section at K-Mart throwing fish hooks at each other. But
do what you always do, promise them money, candy, and matches to shut up
for five freakin' minutes while Mommy skims this.

You're a Shakespearety mom. You had 16 kids with 18 different fathers, and
you think that little Cletus has ADD. That's not ADD, that's the caffeine
and sugar talking, because you keep bathing him in Coca-Cola for breakfast
after he wakes up on his pillows of supermarket-bought glazed donuts. While
we're on the subject, take a Frost-ing wet-nap to him once in a while, huh?
Back in my day, ADD was not just treatable, it was curable. It involved a
belt, my ass, and ol' Ma Mordi's arm swinging. Look into it.

You make sure to starve them and keep them awake and take them to the Coles
at 5 p.m. They're hungry, tired, cranky, and retarded. This does not a good
shopping experience make, so you're screaming at them for ripping open the
bags of Fun-yuns and laying in the aisle. Of course, you continue to let
them do this, but you screech at them like a howler monkey from your stop
at the Hahn Light / Toohey's Light sale.

I'd love to say that your kids need a good ass whippin' and I'd be right.
But only after I took the belt to you, and whipped you for every ugly,
hateful, mean, thing you've ever said to these kids. Your parenting does
nothing to improve these kid's behavior. You know how they like to run out
in the parking lot like wild animals? Well take a cue from them and start
playing in fast-moving traffic.

Forever Grateful,

....Mords

PS:
While we're at it, know this - You are NOT "a unique and beautiful
snowflake".
And I don't care who you are, what you drive, or where you'd rather be.

pete wood ·

oooooooooooweeeee, that stings! :duh

dang Cletus, you and you're freakin ADD!
Give me the daim puter mouse back or I'll send you to hell! :cussing

glad you liked it peter hes a funny guy and i actually had to read it carefully to see if there were any swear words in there cause he does slip them in.

Harryman ·

We had a similar problem with some fella's a while back who ripped of our letter box twice so we got one made from 5m aluminium and instead of a standard upright post for it I got a solid rod from menzies metals cheap 10 bucks and attached it, my dad then decided to quickset with concrete. He told me he heard a bang late at night not long after we put it in and some swearing looks like it was a fair match for the little sh*

I was a great kid i reckon. Still am, Lol. I was the kind of kid that was classed as a pussy, which was during the late 90s, so not too long ago, about half a decade into the start of the crazy child generation with drugs, sex alcohol and shit music coming into the kids life.

But I haven't been there. Hence why some call me a loser. I'm a 17 yr old virgin who has neva taken a puff of anything, neva been drunk or doped up on anything.

I spent my time doing quite intellegent things when i look back at it. My bro and I would walk down to the storm water creek or into the forest walk creek, use mud to dam a section off, got a bucket, and removed all the water out (after 3 hrs of hard nonstop labour lol) and would scoop up the yabbies and eels stuck in the mud left over. Those were the days, great fun.

Oh, I was a lil' bit of a rebel when i was 4, but a session of 9 consecutive hard spankin's on the ass really did the trick. That changed me around so quickly. What I had done was teared all the story books covers off of the shelve, which was heaps. So yeah, big woopin's = dicipline.

Its not child abuse when it is beneficial for the childs development 😉

I still get spanked too, but thats by the girls on the trains during my school trips, but anyways, so yeah. Not all of use kids are lil' shits, but there are a heap. See em' everywhere, I think its getting to a point where the numbers are FAR to many.
