Kombi gear trouble?

Hey everyone, i have a 77 kombi with a 2ltr motor and box. Over the last few months it has developed a problem with shifting gears. If you take it for a long drive (45mins +) it gets really hard to get gears, 1st, 2nd and reverse. When it first started to happen it was only after a longish drive but now it is starting to happen after short drives as well. I suspect the clutch or preasure plate. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be the synchros need replacing. Our 2L box was hard to shift into 1 & 2 and it needed the synchros replaced.

If it was the synchros would it happen only when it gets warmed up, or would it be hard to get gears all the time?

Do you mean moving the gear shift lever?
or hard to engage gears?
does it do when stopped?
How much freeplay at the clutch pedal?

try this quick quiz!!! ask someone to depress the clutch pedal as you slide under the car and observe the amount of travel at the clutch lever...some times the conduit bracket breaks...causing a reduced movment at the pressure plate..worth a look....check at the torsion housing and the bracket at the gearbox cheers steve

Have you checked the gearbox oil level? I doubt it's synchros b/c in my experience they seem to be worse when cold.

Clutch pedal pivot points are prone to cracking as well.
