Has a/one got one of these Canon S1is digital camera's?
If so are you happy with it?
Is there a similar camera by another name brand such as Nikon that's as good?!
I know that Canon has released the S2is, but is a little too expensive for my liking. They'll drop $300 when the S3 is released!
Thoughts Appreciated!

Mate..i havent got the Canon you mentioned or the camera I am about to recomend, however if you want a big zoom camera all the reviews rave about these, as well as a mate of mine. If you search around you can pick these up for a little under $700.
Another alternative if you have a bit more dough is the Pentax ISD SLR camera, which you can now get for about a grand at JB Hifi.
Good luck

I've got a canon sureshot a70 (I think) point and squirt. Does the job for snaps, good for price, think it was about 300 or so. Been dropped a few times and did bounce well, has been reliable and takes decent pics for the money.
Not a patch on the Nikon D70 though, but then lots less, depends what you want it to do I guess.
Also I find that Big W (Agfa) and Kmart prints are crap compaired with Kodak.
Unless your blowing up prints bigger than A4, 3/4 megapixels is plenty.
They always get cheaper!!!! Just buy and don't look back. Check some mags for reviews, esp on what's comming up, high street retailers get good deals on about to be run out models, so they are not always the best place to go.
Consider Sony point and squirt, they take great shots, esp if you're not printing lots, but wanna photo chop - they have a good lens too. I found the main issue with all digi-cams is the 'lag' when shooting moving objects, like kids, sometimes you click, then it focuses and shoots, this can take a moment. I had a Fuji for about 3 hours, then took it back and got an Olympus - which was great till my kid destroyed it, then went to Canon. All good experiences.

Hardly Normal has an Olympus SLR just under $1000 from memory. Not sure on model number. The Nikon 5700 is also a good camera with 8x opt. zoom plus 4x Dig. if you can find one. I believe that they worked out better than the later 8700 camera.

olympus c770 10x optical 4mp they have eexcellent lenses, they produce thier own. if you look at olympus site they also produce lenses for medical applications, under $700. you can also pick up tele lenses that kick it up to 17x, or macro.

INTERESTING info on the Printed pics....
I haven't bought a digital camera as yet still using the not so old 35mm pentax camera.....
I would have thought that AGFA would be better then Kodak... I use agfa 35mm film all the time....
I'll have to remember that when the time comes....

Yer mate i have got a S1 IS. Its a great little camera. Although does lack in MP. Only 3.2. but the 10 optical zoom is awesome. Dont go for any other brand cause the salesman told me that cannon are the only company who make their own lenses... leading to a better pici. But great camera would recommend one to anyone.
Cheers Brendan

I have the S1 IS too, it is a great camera except that it takes 4 AA batteries which it seems to get through very quickly, i may not be using it correctly but other than that its awesome. I like the flippy screen thing!
