ok chaps! i have a spare set of rims.. and i would like to get them widened and blasted/powdercoated so i can fit 205's at the rear..

how wide do i need to go?

is 205's a good option on a fairly low bug?
i do have camber, so can i go bigger?

and what is the best width rim for 135/145?

or should i do what it takes to fit 165's in the front comfortably?

(ie raising.. narrowing beam too daunting at this moment in time)

disk brake front end but it sux with 135's - want to go bigger

barls ·

205s fit quite nicely on 5.5' rims cause thats what i got on my empi 8s

killakornkobb ·

another Q to my seemingly endless list there..

what width are stock 4 studders?

barls ·

4.5' is the stock size

boersch ·

I run 205/65s on 6" at the rear and they tuck in nicely with a bit of -ve camber. Fronts are 175/55s on 6" with disk brakes too and so far no rubbing. If you want to stay low but want bigger than 135s then 175/55s are a good choice, they are almost the same diameter but heaps wider. Only downside is they're about 275 a pop. Make sure you put some pics up when its done :thumb

put the 205s on 6" and the 135/145s on standard 4.5 rims

killakornkobb ·

im running the 135's atm.. on standard rims..might look into the 175's actually.. sounds good🙂 piccies r up in members rides 🙂

VWFOOL ·

i think those 175s came out on the smart cars, and yeh shuld b same height as 135 but more widerr

killakornkobb ·

is 6" a good size for the 175's? or should i keep 2 standard width for the fronts? cos they fit 165's nice..

phil ·

i'd go 5.5" on the front with 175/55s or 60's and 6" with 205/65's on the rear

killakornkobb ·

and who should i see about widening/powdercoating?

BiX ·

I run 195/60/r15 on the front on empi 8's (5.5 inch) and i also run 205/60/r15 on teh empi 8's/ for track i run 195/55r15 on 6 inch front and 205/60r15 on 7 inch rims.

its also worth noting the actuall tire inlfated width. as i found a big width difference between my falken st115 196/60r15 and my bridgestone 195/60r15. they are the same specs but teh bridgestone are 20mm narrower on teh shoulder.

I fond 205 on a 7 inch rim are perfect for track work. you could even get them on a wider rim. also make sure you check with the tire you choose the min and max rim width.

try looking up wheel wright or wheel smith in your yellow pages...not familiar with melbourne but there should be plenty who would do the job

killakornkobb ·

went to bob jayne yesterday - no records of the said 175's.. but 195/50/15 has a rolling diameter 2mm smaller than the 135/80/15 which i currently have on the front...

anyone tried these w/o a narrowed beam?

i will go see my mates step dad in a few weeks to get some tyres for trade price... or less if im lucky.. hopfully he can find 175's.. as i doubt very highly 195's will fit - TOO wide! - alrough they would be great 🙂

ruckus ·

Damo I reckon you should head down the same path I'm planning to:

145x65 Continentals on 5.5 rims.

That way we'll be even more similar! hehehe

If you can get 'em cheap I'll get a couple as well. (the 175x50 is a continental as well - Kim has them on the front of his 60 bug).

ruckus ·

Oh, and I've got that horn for you too mate.

pod ·

in sydney we have morton and mays that do wheel widening, dont know about melbourne

killakornkobb ·

if the guy can get them in the store i'll have them trade price or close to🙂 i can definatly get a few "spares"

if i'm lucky he'll write them off as damaged for me , and they'll be cheap as chips 🙂

195/50/15 =570mm
135/80/15 =591mm, thought they came in 135/75/15 =577.50mm
145/65/15 =563mm

killakornkobb ·

the tyre guy said my 135's are 80 series cos they say 135/SR/15

dangerous ·

I saw some spiffy 165x50(55?)x15
Bridgstones on one of those sexy new Dihatsu
sports cars today...possible option?
