External Cooler for type 3

gday guys, im having some cooling problems with my wagon. It has a 1916 in it and has a type 4 cooler, but it runs super hot after a little drive. Done a little bit of looking around and it seems I need an external cooler.
What does this involve? and how much $$ am i looking at?
Also if anyone knows where i should take it in brissy that would be cool too.
All of your help is greatly appreciated (I want to drive her!!!)
Ta.

How do you know it is getting hot? Check the gauge etc first for calibration. Who did you ask? If it IS genuinely getting hot you may have a problem elsewhere with your car's cooling system (blocked intakes, loose tinware) or tune (fuel mixtures and/or ignition timing). Sure, things do warm up... but only after you have been flogging it hard for 20 minutes or more... not after a 'little' drive. The fans on Type 3s are BIG and blow LOTS of air

I know a bloke who used to tow his open-wheel race car on a trailer all over NSW and interstate, with full fuel drums, three/four people on board and tools etc with a 1916cc in a type 3 wagon. This thing must've weighed 2 tonnes all up and he cruised at 100+km/h with no problemsnn[ Edited on 13-8-2005 by VWCOOL ]

First the temp needle flys of the dial, then the enging was pinging. My mate who is doing it up has done a few vdubs so he is pretty cluey and he has checked everything else. When we first got it it was running a front cooler that wasnt tapped (??? i have no idea, if this sounds stupid!!!) and it ran hot, he took it off and put on a type 4 cooler and it is still running hot.

You say this happens even after just a short drive right?
If this is the case your problem is way above what a different cooler can fix.

sorry not really a little drive, over 20 minutes

Still the same M8. 20 Mins should barely be hot at all.
Look further into it dude.

So, you have never run this engine with a standard cooler...?

External cooler won't help your pinging problem! :jesus

I think you have bigger issues to deal with.

Well it appears there are larger fish to fry in his instance, BUT...

I also am also concerned about overheating. I have recently put in a New 1600 twinport in my fastback and after say an hours drive at 110km the oil temp has occasionally hit 105 degrees. Now i know thats not too hot, but we are in the middle of winter, so i am worried about the temp come summer time. What are the steps and costs invoved in hooking up an external cooler?

Well......
We think you are right, my mate has taken the motor out and having a look, he also said the pinging is a seperate issue. Makes me sooooo upset, freshly painted and everything else is completed and at the last hurdle she doesnt bloody jump!!!
