Funny rattle Near Cooling Fan SOLVED!!!

Hi ppl,

Out today (sunday) enjoying the early spring in the buggy when on the way home i noticed a rattle/vibration when i took off from a set of lights. It's a 1600tp type 1 swing axle chassis.

I don't have a tacho so i'm estimating that it occurs only between engine revs approx 2500rpm - 3800rpm then goes away beyond this range. Idles well and still has plenty of power and torque.

Ruled out gearbox, diff, flywheel/clutch etc (i think) as it disappears with clutching and occurs with reving stationary and moving with or without clutch engaged. Plus clutch biting nicely etc etc.

Sounds like it is coming from the fan end of the generator. Could the fan be loose? Could it be a fan bearing? Not sure if the generator is charging or not?? How do i check generator charging??

What other info is needed to help diagnose this problem??

Limped home with no problem, but was sounding like a truck in the end but not getting any worse.

Any help is great.

Appreciated Craig but don't want to put you out. I'm in Chipping Norton which is far from most in many ways. Where are u?

Do u think it sounds like anything terminal?????? Or new generator ???

HAHAHA

Finally had a chance to get in and have a good look & feel aound!!! It turns out that a small bracket that i had used to secure some wiring had actually come loose and got stuck in the fan!!!!!!

On first inspection i wasn't able to see or feel it, but this morning with much effort i was able to find it!!!

Haven't test driven it yet. but i'd imagine that this would be a good source for vibration when stuck in the bloody fan!!! 🤪
