That's too bad Suzii. Such a sweet car. I work at North Ryde, so I'll take a detour through that way on my way to work in the morning.

hypo-vw ·

will kept a look out for it in the Illawarra area . nothing pisses me off more than some arsehole touching someone elses property . SHOULD HAVE THEIR FINGERS REMOVED AT THE WRIST !!

boof2332 ·

I am at beecroft....Will keep an eye out in my travels....fingers crossed.

Matt

Suzii ·

rego is ZBL165

thanks for keeping a lookout guys, although I doubt I will see it again.

one other thing - it had a complete set of tie rods in it with their locations written on the boxes, if they surface please let me know.

vw54 ·

We will keep an eye out for it

BUMHOLES

vw54 ·

is this her

Robo ·

Filthy pigs!
Looks like the days of "who wants to steal that, it's only an old VW" are over! Did you used to leave it there all day when you got the train to work? Railway carparks have long been a favorite of car theive's. I hope you get her back, she looked like a nice old original beetle.
Rob...

kombikim ·

old cars are usually stolen from railway stations to "commute", as they are easy to steal & the person knows they have all day to use it, & then leave it somewhere near where they had to drive too
years ago a friend of mine had his 1954 Austin Healey
($50,000) stolen from West Ryde station, it was found in the car park 3 Stations up the line, undamaged
all we have to do is keep an eye out for it, pretty distinctive as not that many left that colour

VolksFolks ·

Suzi, sorry to hear your bad news, i know of a few ppl who have had there cars stolen from rail car parks, it suks

put up your engine number and chassis number, just i am in tassie and its a long way from anywhere and you never know somthing may surface, (sorry to say), i also wreck cars and parts and know of other vw wreckers in tassie, even if it is found in different bits at least its a start to find the mongrels who took you car. keep your head up and hopefully it will be found soon in one piece.

Fossil ·

Maximum bummer dudess - hope you find her undamaged

Che Castro ·

hope u find it undamaged too. I'll keep an eye out in the inner west/city area

Suzii ·

Thanks guys

It is insured with Shannons and was not parked in a carpark but on the side of the road.

I spoke to Vintage Vee Dub this morning and they asked me to fax them a flyer with the deatils which they are going to fax to all vee dub places in Sydney.

It is a gorgeous little beast and I would dearly love to get it back, hopefully in decent condition. All the glass is original and it even has the colour-coded beading still in place.nn[ Edited on 13-9-2005 by Suzii ]

sax ·

Maybe we will find a replacement at Boris' picnic.
I should paint a big VW logo on the primered bonnet of the Valiant
before we head up on Sunday.

Suzii ·

Police found it at Windsor today.
Haven't seen it yet but police say no damage. Number plates and all contents in boot.
Police reckon it has been used with another set of plates on it.

inthebuckethenry ·

Awesome :thumb:thumb
Good to hear!! Hope she's all in one piece for u!!

kombikim ·

I changed the oil before it got nicked. Mechanically it all seems fine, dont think it even got driven far. It's got a few scratches and dents that it didnt have before, nothing major but bloody annoying.

They removed the wheel trims and venetian probably to make it look different then left these items in the car.
They pinched the rego papers in the glovebox and not much else. Weird. The paint looks like shit, the rear bumper is bent in a bit now and they parked it under some sap dripping tree.

No signs of ignition or door lock damage. We just put the key in it and drove it home. Still had half a tank of juice??
(a valueable item itself these days)

The front number plate was literally ripped off in a rage and they gouged the bonnet with something doing it.
It was left parked neatly all weekend in the car park of Windsor golf club. They didnt have it long, what the fuck did they pinch this car for? Now its back and not wrecked its great news but this is a mystery......

jo_tas ·

How very bizzare!
Still, count your lucky stars!👍

Maybe they really wanted a GOLF, not a Beetle!!!

Glad it turned up 🙂

crewcabconnection ·

try giving Paul at
http://www.klampit.com.au a call ... in fact if anyone want's a clamp U2U me and I'll get 'em at a cheaper rate as he's a mate, and drives a big yellow T4. Learned my lesson recently, but then I didn't get the Commode back (shame). Buying a clamp is cheaper than the excess most of the time...

Good to see it all ended well. Hope Shannons do the right thing now.

jenz58 ·

Suzii so glad your sweet beetle was found...

Were all the bits they took off in the luggage bay? I hope so.... damn these people who do stuff like this

I hope your insurance covers the fixing up of things damaged

Che Castro ·

great to hear it was recovered🙂

hypo-vw ·

great news Suzii , now is the time to purchase that Rattle-snake that you have been thinking about and leave it in the beetle . That may deter them next time !!

Robo ·

Oh boy are you lucky! Wonderful news!

Cool that you got it back, bummer about the damage, but at least ti wasn't/isn't too bad. Just remember that you can open your car door with an old VW key that is similar to yours as the cylinders get older they get sloppy. Not sure if you can start another car, but I know I opened someone elses car at Uni for a joke (in front of them of course).
maybe the wheel clamp and a lock adjustment are needed?

vw54 ·

great news .....

maybe they changed the plates so they could use the car in a bank robbery hehehehe lol

best news ive herd all day

Bizarre ·

As a cheap safety device i have a locking engine lid and take the rotor button with me.
Not many thieves carry a selection of rotors with them 🤪

Suzii ·

Thanks guys and gals - now down to the nitty gritty.
Where should I take it to get it fixed.
It needs both mechanical and body repairs.

vw54 ·

Who is closest to you ??? or where did u take it before

Will it be covered by insurance ???

Suzii ·

Have never taken it to anyone before.
It should be covered by insurance, have spoken to Shannons and they said to choose a repairer and get a quote.
They will send out their assessor after they receive the quote.

kombikim ·

Andrew Dodd Automotive

pete wood ·

Good to hear you got it back.

with all that damage, it's time for a a new paint job and a 2332 with EFI and turbo...sorry got a bit carried away again. 🤓

Kombi_Rescue ·

suzii good news ,to answer the question why?..bugs are easy to steal..60's models don't need a lot of brain power to steal....i had a 60's kombi that was stolen several years ago in similar circumstances..it ended up at blacktown train station....i figured some one needed a ride to a train station and the bus/bug were easy to knock off...maybe they were running late for a game of golf..missed a lift..look at the funnier side..they knew it would be reliable and they would get there with out too much attention..cheers steve
