So does that mean it is prob a 2 L with twin carbs, how would that run with a standard splitty gearbox?>>>????

aggri1 ·

Type 3 motor would be a 1500/1600 type 1 with re-located oil-cooler, wouldn't it?

EDIT: Oh and of course a completely different cooling arrangement.nn[ Edited on 7-9-05 by aggri1 ]

can anyone give me any more info on what set up they reckon this is?

Is it probably going straight into the original gearbox?

Does it give out more horsepower than say a standard 1600 twinport?

Could I take it out and fit a 1600 twinport.... should I fit a 1600 twin port

Questions questions

Thanks....

All info appriciated

I have got a type 3 motor in a 67 panel van!! I bought it like that- ugly and wierd, I put a 12v battery in to she if she turned but only got a click out of the solonoid.

It has a bit of end play in it but seems useable....

Are these easy to convert back to an upright type 1? should I bother?

Should I be running a 12v batery or will I damage the electrics, how do I check if there have been any electrical mods?

I guess first step would be to test the starter motor?

I have loads of spare bits of tin ware to convert it...... is it likely the type 3 set up would be more powerfull? it has twin carbies .... really not sure how to tackle this one?? cant find an engine number to check the cc..... any ideas?

Maybe, chuck it start again...

help :?

G'day Dozza,
It is quite easy to convert a Type 3 motor to upright configuration to suit the Splitty, and if you've already got upright tinware all the easier. The only bit you will need to buy is a dipstick adaptor thats bolts on in place of the Type 3 oilfiller tube. If it has Dualport heads it will be a 1600 and the engine # should begin with a "T" and you will need Twinport head/barrell tinware, the rest can be 1500/1600 upright tinware. You can keep the twin carbs but will need to muck around with the linkages, they do make a bit of difference.
Have fun,
Cheers, Ian.
