well it's a magnetic clutch of some sort, looks like it's off an air-con compressor, or a Toyota blower. Come on, what is it?

Its a clutch pulley, supposed to slip at 4000rpm for drag racers, instead of takin the belt off,OR SO THEY SAY :P
Bizarre ·
cant you just put more shims between the halves???
I think the clutch pulley "might" just look a tad mmore suspicious???

Now that sounds very suss. I think someone may be pulling your chain there.
I would say its used to simply disconnect the fan/alternator/water pump/whatever altogether for the duration of the run.
Them clutches take a very, very dim view to any slippage at all.
Witness the damage to the plates when an Aircon compressor seizes and the clutch stays pulled in. At best, they simply flick the belt off, worse break the belt or at worst, they spin the clutch plate on the tapered shaft, shearing off the key.
Very messy!
Ill believe it when I see it running and slipping away@ 4 grand!
