crewcabconnection ·

darwin_ladybug ·

1303Steve ·

darwin_ladybug ·

1303Steve ·

No worries.

squizy ·

What do you want to do? How fast do you want to go? Do you want to be reliable? How much do you want to spend?

Once you know this, then you know what direction you can take.

Robo ·

What porsche engine are you talking about Super 90 out of a 356 or a 411. Finding a super 90 is almost impossible rebuilding one costs a fortune, and then you have to get your car modified to accept one. you would be better off installing a VW 1916 or 1835 these would give the same and better performance! and bolt straight in.
Rob...

Craig Torrens ·

Fit a Kombi motor.................that's a failed Porsche motor. :P

bus914 ·

nay, talk to Stan about a roid 1916

hellbugged ·

hmmm...

humpty ·

Forget it....It cost too much no matter what Porsche engine your talking about, it weighs too much if its any one of the boxer six's, and they don't fit, without MAJOR surgery to your car....

And even if you somehow got around all those problems, it would handle like a pig!

Just don't go there...

If you wnat to stay aircooled, the look to a good hotrod T1 based engine hopup....Loads cheaper, EXR to fit, 'legal' and can be done by just about any competent VW workshop...within reason! :thumb

fastback_paul ·

I can not understand the attraction of the porsche motor, apart from the ability to say
" I have got a porsche motor in that"
what are you going to get: a sore hip ocket and a loss of reliability?
The beauty of the volks moto is its simplicity, and the reliability that comes with that simplicity.
If you want complex, get a porsche, a lover or two and a second job.

why does every 2nd guy at the servo or in the carpark or wherever used to hav a "mate" who used to hav a porsche engine in his bug? and not just any engine, but 911 turbos. was the 70s and 80s full of these crazy bugs driving aorund with turbo flat 6s?

humpty ·

No.....Just lots of hot rodded vw's....Aussie VDubs have been getting modded for ever...

I remember back when I was a kid (early 80's), cruisin down the road in my dads 911 and the bright yellow bug pulls up along side...My dad looks over and gives the guy a nod, the guy in the bug, gives a smile, the lights change and BANG!....the first time i had every seen a car do a wheel stand! And on the street no less!

My dad always owned VW's and Porsches....He knew, what was what.....That bug gave us real good run, it was only when we got into 4th gear that we managed to get past that bug....Fuck it was fast!...And it was VW powered!

It changed my life! 🙂

lol... yeah that happens all the time, huh! At least once every couple of months I get the mate/dad/neighbour/brother/uncle/cousin with a 'Porsche engine' conversation when I drive my Oval

Or a roids 2300.!!😀

dangerous ·

You know that you can get creams for those roids Craig Paton ?!
You know I am just pulling your leg!

helbus ·

Get people all the time saying we should have put a Porsche motor in the bus instead of the Suby motor. Then they say they knew one once with one in it and it blew away V8's etc.. It does get tiring. It is always a VW they seem years ago.

Volkswagenboy ·

Any mainstream driver assumes a twin carb VW motor is a Porsche motor!
-Staggers.

kombibob ·

was in a drive thru the other day in my new bus the bloke serving says "do thoes wheels make it go faster", refering to my porsche wheels, i said no but this does and gave the subi a rev up to about 6.5 rpms and he said holly shit its got a porsche motor in it too!
i just smiled and drove off.
so now we have another story out there to go the rounds:P

Ooops Sorry.............its a Porsche motor that prefered to be fitted to a commercial VW vehicle. :P

Not much difference between a 912 engine and a Kombi !

guess this means most of us have porsche engines too:P

sinecure ·

A VW motor in a Porsche ....hmmmm. Porsches with blown motors are cheap (and readily available from the UK). This would be very interesting.

kroozzn63 ·

Yeah!!! My mate who hnows a mate of a mate up in Darwin and his dads mate, went out with a chick from 'Baget', whos Dad built a porsche motor in a VW at karama. He did 230km going to cassarina in it : )

helbus ·

What about a Porsche with a Subaru WRX motor in it ? 🙂

kroozzn63 ·

yeah that would intresting at least the gearbox would stay together

subaruboxer ·

Helbus wrote:What about a Porsche with a Subaru WRX motor in it ? 🙂

Not a WRX

http://www.projectaerosol.com/porubi/ but a Suby in a Porsche.

Oasis ·

Now that makes sense to me. An affordable Porsche. Don't like the radiator set up though.. I's still have it 😉

Baja Wes ·

I have an old hot 4's magazine that has a porsche 911 with a 13B turbo (or maybe it was a 12A?) rotary in it. I almost cried... :puke

When I took my Baja to the department of transport to have the engine number changed, one of them heard it and said "does that have a porsche motor in it". I said "no, it has a Mazda V6 with more power and reliability". He then told me how they used to put porsche motors in them and how my engine sounds exactly like a porsche motor... :duh

pete wood ·

isn't your V6 just the 928 V8 with 2 cylinders sawn off? :P

but seriously, they might sound a bit similar.

I know the rotary porsche your speak of too. I thought the same thing at the time.

But if you wanna see what makes me really annoyed, it this....

BTW, it's one of many.:puke

pete wood ·

And another one for all the porsche purists...NOT!

http://www.v8914.com/

Although I have to say, this looks very well done. 😏

And there's not much porsche left to be a purist about either 😉

Nah, it was Fast Fours Magazine 😉 ... and there was a couple of donovan-blocked Chev powered 911s in Street Machine years ago, too...
