I was speaking to a lady today, who was picking up her new CLK350 Cabriolet and she mentioned that she never thought she'd have a car like this considering the first car she had.
I asked almost knowingly what her first car was and she spoke fondly of her 66 beetle.
Her Grandfather had worked on the production line at the VW factory in Melbourne, and for his retirement, he and his mates on the line, built the car that would be his to tootle round in for the rest of his time.
His first initial was "J" which coincided with the plates of the day, so he managed to get standard plates with his initials.
He drove the car until his sight put him off the road, then she became the the little bugs' carer. She told me it had a name which was constructed of the first half of her grandfather's name and the last half of her Grandmother's name.
Imagine building your own bug on the production line, putting all those shiney new bits together.
