can you put 1600 single port heads onto 1500 barrels?
and more to the point, will they work!
I know they go on cos I put them on, but I did notice that the valves look to be different sizes.
....and before anyone asks I was told that it had a 1600 in it, by the previous owner and the business that put the re-con in it, AND was stupid enough not to measure the cylinder bores BEFORE buying 1600 heads!
cheers

no such thing as 1600sp heads, theyre either 1500 sp heads, early 1200/1300 heads or late model 1300 heads...... measure the bore on the head and ill tell u if theyre 1500 heads...if they told you it was a 1600 sp then it was a 1500 with new barrels.... same heads....
whats the size of the barrels ur putting the heads on?

G'day,
Hey!! ofcourse there are 1600sp heads, '68,'69,'70 Kombis all had 1600sp motors. 1500 and 1600 heads are both the same bore size and are inter-changeable, as are 1500 and 1600 barrells, most 1500 motors being reco'd usually end up as 1600 as the 1600 piston and barrell sets are cheaper because they are more common. 1500 bore=83mm, 1600 bore=85.5mm, oversize sets available that drop in without machining are 87mm=1641 and 88mm=1671.
Hope this helps,
Cheers, Ian.

Terry,
If you want to come for another drive I have a set of 85.5 (1600) barrels and pistons that you can have. You'll need new rings though.
