JAMBOREE UPDATE....

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/43957/jamboree-update

dangerous ·

Well, I was out first round with a 11.70@112.33 break out on a 11.77 dial in.
I needed a backup for my 11.66 record but the Honda got it at 11.54.....I may
have got the record for the speed but will have to confirm that since the Honda
may still be racing as I write.
Roddy went to the second round with a 12.43@106 on a 12.50 dial in.
Pete had a prob with the chop top last night in the last qualifyer
and couldn't return for first round.
I dont know how the 20b Kombi went, and I think wally broke out first round.

Dasdubber ·

Thats a bit of a bugger but good to see the Volksies out there mixing it up. Full credit to all of you who raced!

vw54 ·

Great to see

VWMA Editor ·

Wally broke out with a 10.54 @ 130mph on a dial-in of 10.55. The wheel stands were also pretty impressive.

Good show by all VW competitors.

The crowd were also intrigued by the quick Beetles, with the pits filling-up after each quick round to ask questions about the cars and motors.

vw54 ·

So was that 4 VWs racing

Doug Sweetman ·

So many break outs...... must have been good air ? or sticky track ?

VWMA Editor ·

4 Beetles and one Rotary powered Kombi. In addition, Alan had his car in the show and shine.

11CAB ·

Anyone know what times the kombi was running?

wacked1 ·

if it's a matt black 20b turbo it's quickcamper off the forum.

11CAB ·

Yeah I was just wondering what times Aaron was running

Craig Paton ·

How did everyone fair after the weekend? No broken boxes etc.

dangerous ·

The air quality was good on Saturday night.
On Sunday it was acceptable but not as good.
I think that most of the breakouts were just
the drivers getting comfortable in the cars
and more efficient driving.
I was kind of hoping that I would get the
record, so I based my dial-in on the one
percent margin required....which I did.
Problem was a Honda ran quicker and I
missed out.
All the cars came up OK after the meet
as far as engine stuff.
There may have been one tranny glitch,
but that has yet to be confirmed.nn[ Edited on 19-9-2005 by dangerous ]nn[ Edited on 19-9-2005 by dangerous ]

Finally caught up on some sleep after no sleep on Friday night and the rest very busy.I think we all had a ball of fun over the week-end. I would like to thank every-one who helped ( racers, crew, mates, fans ) . Dave has covered everything pretty well, except the broken 1st gear on my third run. At that stage vw's where qualified 2,3,4 in ALLMOTOR until i broke, with a full on race front wheel drive honda.Rod's car weighed 1758lbs with driver,1580lbs with out. Choptop was 1685lbs with me and 1512lbs with out.I wil post photo's as find them ,have 1500 pictures on disc. IF anyone out there has pics or video footage of my second run with big wheelstand (12.10et) please touch base.

Nice IDA's Pete...

dangerous ·

Nice reporting Pete!
The Orange Honda (above) is the one that beat me to the record........pretty flash compared to mine huh?!

dangerous ·

Thanks also to Colin and Macca for being good support and help throughout the two days.
Those guys are always on hand and true VW dragracers!

Craig Paton ·

That Honda looks like a weapon! Not sure about the wheelis bars though!:duh

Pete, You & Rod have done a great job with his car, looks terrific!

When does the Yellow one come out again? Got to get the all-motor record off that Honda!!!!!!!!!!👍

dangerous ·

At 1750lb minimum it's going to take some muscle!
Most drag cars are 1600 or less.
EG petes yellow car was 1500, and Nash's old car was 1450 with the driver!

Craig Paton ·

Dave

You've still got a few lbs to lose yet, haven't you? I'm sure once you get on top of the tune, the record will come your way!!

Any specs on that Honda Engine? Capacity etc. :puke

Dak-A-Tak ·

A little start line action. No big wheelys pics yet,but it's coming. Rods car is coming out the hole nisely ( less air in tyres will bring on wheelys) Dave's burnouts are getting bigger( more rev's ) Me ( peter ) needs more seat time but gear box first, then more wheelys .nn[ Edited on 20-9-2005 by Dak-A-Tak ]

Nice work guys really bummed that I wasnt there racing and even more Mac didnt get get the car up there to give it a thash.
Pete and Rod the chop looks awsome.
Looking forward to next year.

dangerous ·

Good to hear from you Morgan....when you comeing home ey? How aboot it?

morgan ·

Will be back early next year and back on track as soon as posible.I got the chance to catch some racing over here at a nostalgia meet, another Dave ran 10.40 in a N/A pan car very cool. Is the Qld crew planing to make it down for the Nats?

dangerous ·

Yes we will all be down in Sydney if they ever tell us when it is on!
Any details aboot the N/A car you mentioned?
Is it an All Motor weight legal one?
Photos?

Bug_racer ·

Anyone know what happened to Hound dog ? What kind of engine did that have ?

dangerous ·

Hound dog had a 96.5 X 88 scat cased, Autocraft head engine.
He ran a best of 10.71@124.
Car was 1600lbs(730kg) so would be too light for our All Motor rules.
The gossip is that he will return soon.
I will chase him up.

humpty ·

There was another car of interest in Qld....Its was a black fastback from memory....It was also run out of Volsrestore if I remember...Where is that one? Henry's old Manx, that Ghia from Melbourne...Mark? Didn't Stan Pobjoy have a Red Drag bug back in the 80's?

Jees....there's enough of the these old cars about that Oz racers could start our own 'nostalgia' series!!!

DUBstalgia!

Bug_racer ·

If it did get weight added to it to compete in the all motor category would it still run a sub 11? Also whats the differences between all motor and ss/c ?

shiftyvw ·

ss/c is just NA 4 cyl, DYO no other rules apart from applicable andra safety rules. But you run against v8's mostly.

Bug_racer ·

That honda is running wheelie bars . I know that the pro sport fwd doesnt allow wheelie bars . Does all motor allow wheelie bars or has there been another rule change ?

dangerous ·

The fastback was Wally Penboss' car before his current beetle
and is sitting idle in a guys garage as a roller.
Henrys Manx is sold and now on the street.
Marks Ghia is now complete with 2442cc EFI turbo combo just
needing final dyno tune....oh, and a track to race on.
The red bug was sponsored by Stan and owned
by Peter Greenham. It is now convered back to a daily driver.
It was owned by Peter Richards, and before him Henry
used the car as early as the seventies. A record holder I believe.
Yes, hound dog should run in the tens, even with
the weight added.
But as I have found theory is one thing....

humpty ·

As always Dave...your are a wealth of information...Thank you.
Isn't Mark from Victoria?....No drag strips there anymore?
Maybe he should move to Qld....Seems like thats where all the Dub competition is anyway!
Well done gentelmen...It truely is good to see you guys flying the VDub flag!

morgan ·

Have you guys seen your pix on "hioctane.com.au" what ever you do dont forget the AU

dangerous ·

no! I'll check it out!
