so ive got the material i want to use, and im going to use the original seats with their original vinyl on them, i just want to change the panels where ur bum and back go.
so wat do i do?

So just an insert? Gotta take the cover off the seat and sew the insert into the covers.
Or do you want to relace the complete top and bottom face panels i.e. the bits you sit on and against?
Either way (sorry, is it Paul?), the covers have to come off. The other thing too is that when you add nice new vinyl to not so nice old vinyl, it can let the whole lot down and look preeety daggy.
...And, often times the old vinyl can be brittle and not react too well to sewing.
I've been doing complete cover sets....so you remove the old covers carefully, remembering how they come off, send them to me...I'll use your covers as a pattern so they're gonna fit, send the new covers back to you, and I'll help you fit them by remote control. $60 a cover. So a seat has two covers = $120. Two seats $240. Backseat $240.
Pleats and stitching and tuck and roll are time intensive and cost a bit more, but plain covers with piping $120 a seat, plus fabric.....
You can have you old covers back of course. (They've had your ass on them...so...thanks but no thanks).
Turned into an ad. Sure I've offended someone, but dem's da facts.
Of course if the current covers are in great shape, get a girlfriend with a fairly solid sewing machine, (getting hard to find these days), on the job. So to speak.

Hi Brad,
I'm very interested in the seat covers. My front seats (low backs in red and grey) need recovering, if this is possible without sending them over to you- I'm in Perth. Could you please email me on monkhj01@student.uwa.edu.au?
Thanks.nn[ Edited on 27-9-2005 by morris_53 ]

65 Busser,
Where can you get seat covers from, in Melbourne? (76 cabrio with headrests, and 74 L Bug). Do you also replace padding and springs? How much would this cost for the front two seats, and padding and springs for back seat?
Sewing new vinyl over old is going to make for some awful looks and uncomfortable contours. The old is already stretched to its limit. The new stuff will stretch, and being held in place by the old will start to fold in on itself.

cab1303, You can have TMI covers in the original vinyl, (or same as)....or you can have covers made in whatever fabric/vinyl/leather you like. I'll email you tonight.
