i have 2 monroe shockies to go on the back of my baja. they were bought through a mechanic workshop and are apparently according to the book the right ones. however they have a metal sleeve though the top eyelet which isnt on my current shockies and this will prevent the nut from being done up.
whats up with this?
have these 2 numbers written on them.

Wrong shock! No Beetle or Typ 3 VW has a sleeve that long on the top bolt hole (IRS bottom hole does). Although you might be able to cut the sleeve down...?nn[ Edited on 26-9-2005 by VWCOOL ]

i was thinking cutting the sleeve down would work but then its sitting on a metal mount instead of the rubber. would this matter?
Anthiron ·
problem is ive had these for a while and im no longer really on freindly terms with the mechanic so cant really ask him to send them back or anything.
VWCOOL ·
compare it to another Beetle shock and you should be able to see what I mean

just cut the metal sleeve down to fit as long as the stroke is the same as yer old ones.nn[ Edited on 26-9-2005 by Mick H ]

ok so its gonna be ok to cut the sleeve down?
cause there is rubber around the sleeve but that will mean the top mount is sitting in metal and not rubber like the lower mount. is this ok?
i know what u mean VWCOOL i had already seen the difference when i compared them

I think the sleeve can be cut down. The sleeve is bolted on with the bolt and the rubber should be between the sleeve and the shock.

thats correct bix so thats cool i should be able to use them. its just a bitch that i cant take them back
