fuel starv/overheating

hi guys, gotta problem that i was hoping somebody could shed more light on. i'm driving a 74 super semi-auto 1600.
starting is no problem, however after driving for 5 or 10 mins i notice the oil pressure gauge happily falling steadily towards ( 1 on my gauge ), which is where it then blinks at me and then soon after the engine dies. this not only happens at idle but under acceleration and cruising as well.
when i pull over the engine is too hot to touch even and so i wait. The other thing is usually the fuel filter is completely dry. fuel tank ventilation is supposedly ok, filler cap is good too. i recently had fuel tank flushed out and fuel lines blown. same problem. before that i had engine removed and all gaskets, seals etc replaced along with fuel filter, fuel pump.carby is said to be ok. last time it happened i removed the fuel line to the pump and blew into it to clear the line, after which the engine started but failed again 5 mins later - as i was turning across oncoming traffic of course.. anyway, is this a fuel problem where the tank or fuel line could have some particles blocking the exit therefore perhaps running the eng too lean and causing the eng to heat up and oil to run too thin or could it be a cooling/overheating problem whereby somehow vapourising the fuel upstream of the pump???
it,s driving me mad..
my next plans are to replace fuel line and maybe tank, and fit external oil cooler.
i'm driving in hot weather all the time btw

any ideas would be much appreciated
thanks

not a good way to joint the forum but welcome anyway.

Fuel starvation should not cause the oil pressure to fall.
It also wouldnt start again easily.

Sounds like an overheating problem caused by very poor air flow or oil blockage.

Has this motor ever run properly??

Do you know any history on this car??

When it does run how does it sound?? healthy??

Anyone else with ideas??

Can i have a shot too.Is all the tinware in place,is anything blocking the air intake on the back of the fan, timing too advanced, air leak on the intake manifold,u have an airfilter right, brakes not dragging, thats it im all tapped out.Have u had this car long, has anything changed recently, talk to me dude :P

I'm no expert, but common sense tells me it's an air flow problem.....?

Glad to hear there's another semi-auto around though! :thumb

timing too advanced and running lean will make ur engine run hotter. my 2c
