YIOughta ·

hmmmm could this be fitted to a notch without too much trouble?

kombi_kid ·

to fit into a type 3 u would need to modify tinware, not sure about the carbies fitting in
i just remembered the little rubber thing between the case and dipstick needs to be replaced but i have the replacement just needs to be fitted!!
also comes with a K&N filter cleaning kit for the kadrons!

This motor cost over $4500-oo to build ...the guy that owned it lost the papers ...but Stan does remember it as it is a Coffs kombi (now Stans stomping ground ) ..pretty sure its a 2 litre but has 1.8l case number ...got to be worth the $1300 hes chasing

twoguns ·

hwt would the HP and torque be like on this motor?

and is it able to be bolted to a beetle box?

barls ·

this is similar to whats been sitting in the engine stand for months at the old mans work shop for my bug wes

bus914 ·

stock cam?

yes wes the 2L and 1800 can be bolted to the bug box but needs to be changed to the 1800 flywheel and converting it to the upright cooling as well. dont worry my old mans now has an idea about this conversion. as for the horse power i dont know but im sure stan would. i know mine was a stock version and it would cruise at 110km all day with half throttle

twoguns ·

i am thinking beach buggy. so was hoping maybe it could be bolted up as is? obviously not he case, hey?

barls ·

maybe wes but you would still need to up grade the brakes to get it engineered

twoguns ·

what, from discs to discs???:P

so you think this is a bolt up?

barls ·

it will bolt up but its more the question of will the stock cooling system work in a buggy or will you have to convert to an upright system.
so you already have all 4 discs then wes

twoguns ·

pretty sure you dont need rear discs, mate. just front.
hmmm. teh question is then does the fact that it is in a buggy sitting out in the open benefit the cooling of the engine?

hey kombi kid - do you have a pic of hte motor you can post?

barls ·

i can tell you now that you need to upgrade from stock brakes to have a 2L in a bug and a buggy weighs less have a chat to the old man about it and see what he says

kombi_kid ·

hey wes
HP out im not sure as i dont have the specs of the engine but i know it pushed the kombi along perfectly so in a buggy it would be good i think!
i will get a pic for ya tomorrow
cheers

sorry
rhys

gull ·

get a subaru 2.2 would shit on it any way

tomnseals ·

Thanks Gull. That was really constructive.

Btw, just sold our Subaru for a Kombi so ... there you go.

What size was the engine KK, before you had it rebuilt and how much do you want for it?

I'm really interested.

Cheers,
Tom

71superbug ·

it was KINDA constructive. haha people need to loosen up a little.

also..i think he already said he isnt selling it anymore as he found out its too good to sell?

and to say "just sold our subaru for a kombi so...there you go"

people have also transformed their VW's into Subie powered beasts..swings both ways buddy. just a matter of personal preference..subarus being the newer more advanced engines they probably would shit on the old aircooled . but thats just my opinion.

anyway..congrats on getting a better motor than you thought kombi kid,

Anthony

kombi_kid ·

people sorry bout this but these things happen myself i would prefer a subi aswell and am going to be putting them in as my aily job very shortly but yer my old man wants the engine anyways for one of his projects
sorry again
cheers

Why??? It's not for sale any more...

71superbug ·

do you have to be a complete smartass dimwitted tool..sorry...but i was just wondering what specs the engine is out of curiousity. is that a crime in this day and age?

Anthony

VDUBXTC ·

Do you really need to know?

Its not like its a rotary or anything:P

helbus ·

I was contemplating a pobjoy engine for the Helbus and it was basically flip a coin to go either way with the VW or Subaru motor. Both would make the bus have a bit more respect on the road.

End of the day I personally chose the EJ22 as I like to work things out and looked at it as a challenge.

I fully respect the idea of a high HP VW motor also. Good luck with it kombi_kid, it will be good to see it when it hits the road. :thumb

71superbug ·

haha manx. no its not a rotary..never will be anything likeone 🙂.

Just cos i plan on the rota in MY bug. doesnt mean i dont like the old VW stuff 🙂

Its a 2l with a mild cam (6500rpm) new AMC heads dynamically balanced ...needs his new dual ignition system and a decent set carbs ...should push the frid along nicely
...from what rhys tells me this is stans 'production' donk ....has built plenty and they are still pulling well and strong.
...he was only selling as he need the dosh ...got the better of me and we lent him some......sorry about stuffing you all about

that frustrates me..

1) you dont know what i would and wouldnt say
2) i said sorry straight after...as in...didnt mean it to be offensive just what was the advantage to anyone of you posting "why its not for sale anymore"

and as far as showing respect goes...i personally think i have shown pretty much everyone on this forum respect. this was my first comment that could be seen as offensive. and i wrote it because lately this forum has been turning into people just trying to 1 up each other and such. And im sick of it. The veedub scene shouldnt turn into that of the import scene. lots of negative people in that.

so im sorry if i offended you in anyway. i just think people should less worry about what is beneficial to them and realise that some people DO want to know things that others dont.

Last drinks you two guys, bar is closed.

See you tomorrow.

71superbug ·

yeah its all good.

congrats on the better score on a engine than ya thought.

Anthony

MISS VDUB ·

Whoa, lets help each other guys! It's like people around here are scared of others "copying" them? I"m always up to helping out fellow dubbers, and i hope that you guys would to? Too many defensive people round here...

71superbug ·

dont worry sweety..ill help you out on sunday...with a lift maybe. haha

but yeah its all good ash...chillax.

Anthony

VWFREAK ·

Damm, thats a good price for a T4 donk. Should sell quick. I still remember paying $1800 for a set of reco heads years back.

71superbug ·

yeah bone collector it was..unfortunatey its not for sale anymore 🙁...oh well..life goes on.

Anthony

lobus ·

That sounds interesting, I was a mouse click away from buying it when I first saw the post. I was concerned that I would have to butcher my small engine bay to make it fit. I have been thinking about putting a bigger motor in with an upright kit. Is that what you are planning with the frid? I am still thinking along those lines so if you want to keep us informed of what is needed to do the conversion I would be paying big amounts of attention.
My next cruise to Sawtell might be a little quicker up the hills and I may save some time with my off direction detours.

Volksaddict ·

Oi
Lobus ...good to hear from you....yep ill upright it and jam it in the frid ...shouild be ready for the nationals ....might even get stan to do the twin plug /dual ignition system...was a win for rhys ...he only paid $1500 for the complete kombi with this donk..the owner couldnt find the receipt from stan ....he s a local drug dealer which caused rhys some grief as he was always getting pulled up by the local politze and searched!!!!...had to change the plates and respray..see ya at valla ..then sawtell in 2007.....had heaps of positive feedback about the show.
Rayv

lobus ·

Hi Ray, sounds sweeet, my mechanic was a bit worried about some engine mounts the 2 ltr has above it somewhere on top that the type 1 doesnt have. Should have pounced when I had the urge and worried about the details later!
On a lighter note that is a good way to keep the young blokes on the straight and narrow, drive round in the local dealers delivery ride...
