sean68 ·

hi
does anyone know who owns this bug and how i can get in touch with him?

[ Edited on 15-11-2005 by sean68 ]

HotRodMatt ·

Trent Demos

U2U me I'll find his email address.

humpty ·

Is that a locally built offering?...A very nice looking bit of kit for sure!

shiftyvw ·

Ron Lummus Gear i think. Might have been put together locally i think.

HotRodMatt ·

Was with C&V originally now I think he has gone to City Performance?

BUS 23Q ·

yeh, car has been built by city performance. Crazy car ahh!!! Those guys do know what there on about. Car gets quicker every time. Think its getting a refresh as we write. This will be the quickest VW i belive.
Was thinking of taking my car there. Does anyone know how good they are?
Heard there booked for the next six months! Could that be possible?
Lets know!!!!

dangerous ·

I know that Larry Still did all the chassis assembly and welding
after the kit came in from Ron Lummus as a bunch of tubes.
I think after that Trent has had trouble finding the right person
to work on the car....but it turned out great!
Knowing how much I had invested in my car, and how I
did most of the work myself, I would say there is over 150G in
that car.
Yes, with the right crew on the job it will be very fast.
So far bests of 10.40's@140+ I believe.

humpty ·

This car is a very nice looking bit of kit.... What sort of driveline they running? We can not possibly have enough of these sort of Dubs at the track...IMHO. Can't wait for some of the other PRO style cars start making moves for the ranks....

Keep the flag flyin boys...All of VWOz is behind you!

shiftyvw ·

Did he end up converting to injection?

dangerous ·

Last I heard it was EFI on methanol and 2700cc Pauter and T1 tranny.

[ Edited on 5-11-2005 by dangerous ]

iox10x ·

there are some photos on city performance web site under drag cars/trents vw

The engine is now 2.4l with full motec management and mendeola transmission.

dangerous ·

There are alot of build-up photos on that website.

i've gone mad?
you have no idea how mad :P
have you seen the light and bought a vw? 😏

thanks for the link iox10x....lots of good build photos of trents car
friend of mine actually knows the owner of city performance so i might have to pop in there and check it out

iox10x ·

The car is at city performance getting a motec with traction control ,launch control and anti lag, with full data logging.

They do some amazing stuff.

Dak-A-Tak ·

This chassis started live as a Ron Lummus kit ( chrome-moly-64kgs) Larry Still did all the fine work putting it together. Scale it-make your own!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Hi to all ...this is my first post on the forum...Rod Penrose mentioned that there was some discussion about my drag car on the weekend at the shoot-out ,so i thought that i better check it out.... so here i am.

I noticed that there is a bit of discussion as to who actually
built the car.
All the parts came from RLR and initial fabrication was by larry....the rest of the car planning fabrication and assembly was done by cv performance & city performance .

CV RACING sponsor the tune up and pit crew for the car and have been a great influence with the car....CITY PERFORMANCE CENTRE perform all fabrication and installation ....they are currrently fitting a mendeola transmission and the motec ecu,cdi and dash...

BOTH OF THESE BUSNISESS COME HIGHLY RECOMENDED
AS WELL AS RON LUMMUS RACING.....

Hope this information is informative and look forward to being a part of aussieveedubbers

TRENT_DEMOS ·

some photos taken by MATTHEW SHERWOOD at 05 VW Nationals 10.45 and 145.7 mph first two passes

humpty ·

Welcome Trent....And more power to you for building such a fine car! You and Rod and Pete and Dave and all the others I haven't mentioned are an inspiration to all of us!

Keep on keeping the faith man...We love fast dubs at the track!

iox10x ·

Hi Trent

10.45 @145 is fantastic. Looks like from your speed the Et is going to come down a lot once the car is sorted. you should be able to do a low 9 . I cant wait to see the car at the track again.

jvl054 ·

Welcome Trent, nice work. You will deffently keep people watching:thumb...JVLRacing

iox10x ·

Went to city performance today.
Took a photo with my phone of trents mendeola installed .Sorry about the picture quality.

There was another blue vw with 2.2 l turbo injected street car in the making. Their work is only of the highest quality, a lot of race cars and drag cars.

iox10x ·

sorry no photo, try again

pete wood ·

that car is really money no object isn't it 😵

humpty ·

Something about a 'Poiter BIG Block/Spendeola' combo that gets me all excited ! 🤪

i must go have a cold shower now.....😍

pete wood ·

tooo much information :duh :puke

sean68 ·

Hi Trent
welcome to the forum
hope you don't mind me starting this thread as i was looking for a way to get in contact with you
a few aussieveedubbers are in the know concerning vw dag racing so i thought it was a good starting piont
I am really interested in the build of the bug and i wanted to ask you some questions about the chassis amongst other things

cheers
sean

shannonmac ·

Yep,

I got rid of the subaru🙁
had to buy a ute as i have my own company now
but I got a dub for Michelle, well thats what I told her
looks like I have got a project for weekends now:😉

sean68 ·

shannon
you have u2u
u2u me your phone number as your old one i've got doesn't work now

[ Edited on 9-11-2005 by sean68 ]

dangerous ·

Welcome Trent, love the car.
Yes every one, good quality parts cost.
But doing it any other way is false economy.
Good to hear that there are businesses out there that can be recomended.
Oh yeah, Trent don't forget to post your time slip on the "Top 50"

[ Edited on 9-11-2005 by dangerous ]

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Hi Sean no prob with starting the thread .....Im more than willing to answer or help in any way....just ask and i will respond asap

vw54 ·

welcome to the Forum Trent

bout time you got on here .

dangerous ·

Can you list some specs on the engine and tranny specs Trent?
ie bore and stroke, cam etc, and ratios in the tranny.

vw54 ·

Theres me n Boris havea squizzzz

pete wood ·

Trent,
totally impressed with the car man, good to see you went with EFI too,

just looking at the chassis pics, looks quite simple really. I was sort of surprised just how simple the setup is. are the RLR kits expensive?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

The RLR chassis kit is inexpensive it is everything around the chassis that kills you ...since those pics of the chassis more bar work has been added e.g. funny car cage ...more bars for mendeola....roof bars etc...

some quick specs on the engine 78mm stroke 98mm bore roller cam RLR specs mendeola geared for 160mph...

iox10x ·

WHEN IS THE CAR GOING TO BE FINISHED

vw54 ·

It is finished and has been racing

iox10x ·

HI DAVE

i saw the car at city performance the other day, the car is basically getting a rebuild, it was stripped back to the tube frame. I saw it race when it did a huge wheel stand, then the box blew. It appears a lot of changes are currently in progress since i saw the car at the drags last. Should be a lot better sorted next time out. Et should come down , apparently since fuel injection was put on they have not run the NOS. The mile an hour indicates the car should be quick, I wish them all the best.

sean68 ·

might have to change the post title now i know who owns it and also Trent has now joined us
any suggestions

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Hi iox10x sounds like yuo are keen to see the car race again ...as Dave said it is finished ,but ...you are also correct ..the car is getting a total rebuild and i do hope to go faster..but each time i run the car there is something that i like to improve ...this will be an ongoing development...that will be fun for all ..except my wallet...as we chase the car.... hope to show the U.S. that us aussieveedubbers can run fast too....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Is anyone interested in some build-up pics of the current mods?

iox10x ·

That would be great thanks, love this car

iox10x ·

trent
how about we re name this thread
'Worlds fastest beetle' ha ha

TRENT_DEMOS ·

MOTEC installation should begin next week.... CITY PERFORMANCE have two motec specialists as they are a dealer and there installations are very nice...EZIO will be doing the work as well as planning with ALLESSIO....
SHOULD BE INTERESTING.....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

iox10x i hope one day to be able to claim that title maybe in VW TRENDS PRO MOD CLASS....until then we will have to choose something else....

iox10x ·

What class was Rodney Penrose old car in and also what will his new car be under ? Have you set up the car to be in a class or just to go fast ?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Rod ran a class called a-sedan and did hold the record for a while but it is now held byRON LUMMUS at 8.4 at 173 ....ROD ran 8.96 at 156 i think....but both cars ran bigger mph ron 177 and rod approx 160

my car will run a class that is pro mod but i think you have to run at a sanctioned event in the US ...not sure of current record ....

About Rods new car ....looks great....not sure what class he will run in the U.S. but i think that he would be more interested in running the car in PRO RWD ...SPORTS COMPACT ......as the car is a different design ...current rules for sport compact are a little strange for a 4cyy with 2 power adders ...they want the cars to be a crazy weight ....too heavy and vws would not comply as would not any other properly built 4cyl drag car..

TRENT_DEMOS ·

does anyone know the current record for PRO-MOD ...PRA RULES ....think they are HOT VWS RECORDS not VW TRENDS ?

shiftyvw ·

I dont know if this still applies but i didint think fuel injection was allowed in pro mod?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

PRA rules allow fuel injection .....in pro mod and a-sedan
.....ronlummus ran electromotive ecu...and there are a few more cars running efi and mechanical injection ...it was the old rules of pro turbo that did only allow carbies ..that is why i initially ran a holly 750 because pro mod was not around yet ....

shiftyvw ·

Righto, someone here needs to buy rods old car off him so trent has some competition!

dangerous ·

You have a good job don't you Owen?
I tell you what, with all this discussion, I am starting to get
excited about boost again.
My car needs some crash repairs, but I have an arsenal of
equipment just itching to be used!

dangerous ·

Actually Trent, you are right about the"Pro Rear" rules.
I believe the are really Ideal for rotary based combos.
The Ashfords recently ran a 7 @ 171 with 2000 lbs
which is huge power for a 92 bore X 80 stroke
engine...but one second off the pace ( and light I think?)
That is why they don't run Sport Compact any more.
What does your car weigh?

shiftyvw ·

not that good dave, its not the cost of the car its the ongoing cost of racing that i couldnt keep up with. Im happy letting santo pay the bills for my racing fun! Its not VW but its the next best thing!

TRENT_DEMOS ·

dave totally right about sport compact designed to be a class for rotaries and street cars ....think my car should be around 1700lbs without me ...a little heavy but a lot of gear ...mendeola ..pauter ..wates system and tank for intercoolers...big turbo ...adding front brakes...
will weight next time at track and post...

TRENT_DEMOS ·

sorry a few typos that was...water syster ...and weigh

would be great to race rods old car ...but i am not up to speed yet....hope we get more turbo cars ......06 nats maybe?????

TRENT_DEMOS ·

oops water system

dangerous ·

Trent, you can edit out your spelling or other
stuff you might want to add by clicking the
top right hand side of the actual post where
it says "edit" and then a new screen will come
up that allows you to fix up or add.
Then down the bottom it says "edit post'...click on that.
I always go back and try to tidy up mine so that
all the writing fits the page nicer.

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Great thanx for that Dave..

dangerous ·

Any internal engine photos or dyno graphs?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

no internal photos yet .....but i will take some video footage when we dyno ....can we add videos?....after dyno i will rebuild then engine and take some photos.

speedster356 ·

Video has to be hosted on your own site and just link it from a post here. I can host it on mine if you don't have your own site.
cheers
PS: Can I borrow your GT3 for Bathurst in December.......I'll look after it...........:beer

[ Edited on 14-11-2005 by speedster356 ]

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Peter ...how are you....might have to use your site if thats ok ....ill have to think a little longer about the gt3...

iox10x ·

Dave
Did you dyno your car?
I think you should start re-building, lets see some racing.

Trent
Have you raced the GT3?

dangerous ·

No I only ever dynoed the N/A pauter.
The pan car car ran 147mph@1870lbs with the blown engine...break out the maths books.
Since then I have lost 30kgs off my ass.

iox10x ·

Dave , your pauter blown motor, rods old chasis car, your off and running. Will run some good times , pan car not the best for a high hp Pauter.

sorry, the times are already great, but maybe they could become even better.

[ Edited on 15-11-2005 by iox10x ]

dangerous ·

Not a real fan of chop tops.
And besides, my chassis car is probably lighter and less work to get running.
Never say never!

shiftyvw ·

How badly damaged was it dave? i never saw it.

HotRodMatt ·

Good luck and can't wait to see it run with the improved set up.

dangerous ·

Need to replace the pedals and forward.
Also hope to re-design the rear suspension.
Won't say much more, this is a thread for Trent.

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Thanx Matt ....hope to be testing soon.....great shot by the way.

GOOD NEWS FOR VW RACING

spoke to andra today about sports compack rules ...there is good news for tube vw cars....as we can not race pro rwd a promoters class is being set up for cars that are 4cyl and are too light...the class will be run at the same events and will be called COMPACK EXTREME....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Dave what did n/a pauter make ...and what size ..comp etc...thinking of running the car with two different engines..

BUS 23Q ·

hay trent
when is your car goin to be ready, i cant wait to see it finished, is it goin to be fast

dangerous ·

Hi Trent,
Right now as it sits in the pan car it made 188@ wheels
or about 215@FW.
Why so low?
It has made as much as 275 FW but I mucked around
with it and went backwards. The comp was 14:1 but is currently
12.7 because I shimmed up the barrels to fit more valve lift in.
The comp is still enough to make good power, but
the .120" deck height has killed the burn quality.
Oh yeah, I was too scared to run the 1.6 rockers and
went back to the 1.4s, so I ended up with a low compressoin
and inefficient 2700cc engine that, as it turns out, is a good start
for me to get keen again.....which I am!
I have one more test session this year with the car as is,
and then will make some changes by using my spare which has a
bigger roller cam, or strip this one and try to fit the lift (.720")
in there while keeping the tight deck height. (new pistons)
Would love to see some more serious N/A cars.

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Dave...275 flywheel ..good going what carbies are you runing?.....yanks claiming 300 to 330 ...pro stock 9.60 at 140 mph aussie genuine 275 would be good in your tube car....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

HI BUS23Q

hope to go fast real soon.it has been a long time since i have been in the car and i am getting excited about running again.hope to run in the nines at 150+ mph and then gas the car to go even faster.....firstly get a few solid passes under my belt.

progress has been a little slower than i would like at city performance ..partly due to the fact that one of the employees went fire walking .... think he temporarily lost the plot .....and i am waiting on some more parts from RLR MOTORSPORT....

dangerous ·

Currently running 56mm throttle bodies and mechanical injection
on alcohol, but am waiting with anticipation for your results with
the Motec system....and I love their CDI system!
What is the investment for the package?....(I will install it my self)
U2U me if you think people will be scared.

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Dave not sure of individual prices ..but m800...adl with logging...cdi...e88 expander....sensors ...all these parts were 20-25k.
the units themselves are reasonable..it is all the upgrades and sensors that cost when you want a lot of logging...
think www.cityperformancecentre.com has an updated price list that you can look at.....or call allesio at city performane he will be happy to work out a setup and quote for you...hope that helps...a full system is a good investment as you can always keep it for your next car...think the major cost is to do with the dash and logging....would probably half the cost without it ...but i think that it is critical for a car with a large investment ...it will eventually save testing time and money as well as help to get to the next level...

[ Edited on 19-11-2005 by TRENT_DEMOS ]

sean68 ·

Hey Trent
how's it going
Are you gonna be up at city perf today if so would you mind if i popped in

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Dave i was not sure about it when i heard the price as well but when you do the research and find out the potential of a large system like this it is amazing...there are endless options to choose motec are now focussing on drag racing especially with logging.......it is totally up to you as to where you go and how much you want to spend...i love it totally recomended...e.g.for example nitrous control.....you can run fuel through the injectors .....switch on or off by throttle position ..no micro switch.....run multible stages controlled by time or gear or rpm or whatever variable that you can think of...this is just a small amount that you can do with nitrous.. the system is endless...will take time to set up ..but it will be worth it in the long run....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

sean give me a call at about 11 and i will make arrangements with you...

sean68 ·

will do :thumb

dangerous ·

Thanks for the info Trent.
I had heard of the costs before from a
touring car mate.....they have all the
bells and whistles too.
Yes I totally agree with the advantages and
that there is no other way to do it properly.
When you factor in what is invested in the
engine, there is no point in spoiling that with
guesswork or poor tuning. So the full Motec sytem is worth every penny.
I will look into this very seriously.
On another note, I have someone who may
be interested in your old tranny....is there
any thing left other than shrapnel?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Dave tranny is in need of ring and pinion at the moment i will hang onto it so i can save all my replaced parts to run a n/a car one day....

BUS 23Q ·

hay trent ,
do they do a good job..... they must be awsome people there at city performance?

TRENT_DEMOS ·

DAVE talking about engine damage .....say you have engine trouble during a pass....you pull off the heads ....ooohhh melted pistons.....no logging....you put new pistons in and assume it was tune up...back to the dyno..

same senario this time with logging... end of the run ....pull out logging......oops lost fuel pressure....that is why it was lean.......start checking fuel system ......this time fuel pump has shit itself .....found problem

motec logging did not find feul pump was dead ...but narrowed it down to fuel system this time and we found the problem before we spent more time and money on the dyno.....

TRENT_DEMOS ·

HEY BUS they do a great job ...it must be perfect or it does not leave the shop....they are a great bunch of guys ..ther is a guy they call SHEETIE there he has done the fab work there ...he is building a sik kombi streeter v6 nitrous....TOP BLOKE...

Craig Paton ·

Hi Trent

Car looks Great! Are you looking to come and race in Queensland at some stage?

I sure hope so!

That would be a great F4's, Rot & VW with you, Rod, Dave Butler (Pro-Stocker), Mike Nash (Pro-Stocker) Pagey, Wally & a few quick turbo & n/a Streeters!

What HP do you currently have, and, what are your HP goals?

Cheers Craig

TRENT_DEMOS ·

Thanx Craig ... love QLD ....on the way up tonight to go camping ..will definately race there one day.....lots of work to do before that though...more seat time and car development, want to put on a good show for you guys...long trip to get there and have problems..

current hp ...have no idea could only guess.....need a good full pass to estimate....probably somewhere between 400 to 500hp currently.
running no water circulation in intercoolers...and 22-23psi....hope to evetually get car putting down about 38-40 psi and 3 stages of nitrous...depending on how car reacts...to power increases...but i will go as hard as i can

10x10x ·

Hi trent any more photos.
You are committed to go fast. Good luck.

Dave, I wish you all the best as well. comments are always constructive.

turbobug56 ·

TRENT_DEMOS wrote:does anyone know the current record for PRO-MOD ...PRA RULES ....think they are HOT VWS RECORDS not VW TRENDS ?
Trent

There are new Pro Mod rules starting in 2006.

For turbo, injected, intercooled and nitrous your car must weight 14.04 lbs per cu. in. So 78x98=2353cc = 143.6 cu. in. x 14.04 = 2016 lbs.

Without the nitrous the min weight would be 143.6 x 13.01 = 1868 lbs.

The best e.t. for a 2005 Pro Mod was our car at 8.87 @ 157.76. That was at 1760 lbs with a 2276. For 2006 we will need to weight 1800 lbs. We should be running 8.60's at 160 this next year with a 2276 @ 1800 lbs

dangerous ·

Welcome to the forum Scott....love the cars,
especially the streeter with the Revmaster engine!
Yes we know who you are!

10x10x ·

Hi scott
Trent will have to add to much weight into the car to get even close to those figures. He ais approx 1700lbs, there is only so much weight you can add.

Looks like two of our top cars will have no class to run in. Trent is too light and rod penrose does not currently fit into a class with his new car.

Sometimes the weight is a good thing. 1700 lbs is a safe weight.

your car wouldn't be the red baron by any chance

I have a 56 blue choptop street car with a 2965cc Revmaster engine, EFI, Turbo and Air/Water IC. This new engine combo has been running for about 8 months. Best pass to date is 9.79@150.68 with a car/driver weight of 1995lbs. I am freshening up the engine over the winter and hoping to lower that e.t. significantly.

The Red Baron is my friend Eric Calabrese's car. Eric built the car, engine and trans and I setup the engine combo (heads, cam, turbo, efi, IC) and tune the car for him. Basically, I am the crew chief for his car at the races.

dangerous ·

Scott,
Perhaps you could start post with some pics of your engine, (and Erics) while they are appart for freshen.
I ran a 2965cc Pauter in my drag car but it was supercharged using crankshaft, cylinders, cam and clutch that I made from scratch...I am very interested in your combo.
Regards, DB.

Dude your car is awesome. I saw it featured in a mag (can't remember which one) a while back and it is the buso. 9.7 is damn fast for a street car. I bet there are alot of jealous people wishing they could get even close to that in dedicated strip machines.

Keep up the good work. 👍

Now they are damn serious rockers!

Dasdubber ·

That is certainly some serious kit - great to see the bare bones of it all. :thumb

10x10x ·

Trents re-build has taken much longer than they expected. The work is nearly finished with the car to be stripped next week so the chasis can be repainted. It appears a lot have changes have been made. New gearbox, chasis strengthening, new fire wall, garrett turbo, nitrous set up, motec engine control and full logging, front brakes and more. The chasis will be painted next sat then off to the dyno. C&V will tune the car on a hub dyno with the help from city performance. There is a lot of information that can now be logged with the motec including chasis control. There are hours of track time and dyno time before the car will be sorted.
Every time i go to city performance there is another vw there. They now have 4 in different stages of development. Have not met the owners of these cars so will not comment on their build plans. One street car has all the bits to do extremely well, I hope it all comes together for him.
Some more photos of trents car I took the other day before it was to be fully stripped for painting

I will let Trent fill in all the details, but I heard he damaged his car last Wed night at WSID test session.
Glad to hear that he is OK....The car is only metal and can be fixed or replaced.
Don't do what I did Trent...get back into it...get back on that horse.
I sat out for two and a half years, but wish I had not been away for so long.

10x10x ·

trent is fine car not so good, rolled at the finish line. Chasis is untouched , needs new body.

HotRodMatt ·

That is sad to hear. The car has some seious potential.

Let's hope Trent chooses to run the car with a bit less power for a while, when he rebuilds. Give him a chance to really tune the chassis then turn on the power to show us another single figure ET drag car in Oz.

All the best Trent.

Craig Paton ·

Glad Trent is OK! Was really looking foward to seeing his car in the flesh up here in QLD this year.

10x10x ·

Trent will be back , the car better than ever, Trying to locate a full carbon or glass body. The car has a lot of power, with a lot more chasis work to be sorted. Good thing for data logging.

Never saw any video footage.... Anyone have any?
