Are these imports any good ?
can you get parts for them ?
sites to look at prices ect for these imports
cheers seagull

G'day Neil,
Yeah these are good, but check your insurance company to see if they will insure them. Some wont but depending on your record re claims some will. It takes Aus a couple of years to catch with some of the model differences in a lot of these imports but eventually most parts are available here.
The prices of the imports seem to have risen the last couple of years which might indicate acceptance.
Cheers, Ian.

We've got one,
had it now about a year and a half now . After initial problems with the fuel pump (which after checking on the Delica website seems a common problem on diesels) we then had problems with the automatic gearbox. This was eventually changed on warranty after no end of grief from Brisbane Street Machines from who we bought it but since then we had an alternator go ($500) and a radiator which I suppose I can't complain about. All up though it's a good vehicle- no character whatsoever like a kombi but all the seat are captains chairs, they all recline, the aircon front and back is great. Since all the initial problems were sorted it has been good. Offroad it's good fun but the body seems to high-my opinion only. I wouldn't want to do much work on it though as the engine is pretty inaccessable from the top but it is really for the missus to cart all the kids around in and for long journeys. Anyway that's my 2 cents worth.

By the way we insured ours through Shannons when we insured our cabriolet. No problems there.
Bizarre ·
ummm
18 months and you have had
Gearbox
radiator
fuel pump
alternator
🙁
You do heaps of km's??
That seems an awful lot of repairs
ancientbugger ·
Yea but the gearbox and fuel pump were sorted out by the dealer eventually and the radiator and alternator are sort of consumables, funny though I've never had a radiator go in my buggy or beetle:thumb

a friend has one and swears by it ,he is in the tyre business and knows a few people in the trade so he prolly got a good one ,but regardless he rekons its the ducks guts

as a generalisation im not into imports...
but thats cos im in the parts industry and encounter the problems that occur with these vehicles and the higher then average loser ratio whom own imports...
just beware, that its often the smallest things that can fark you up and if you dont have a good parts supply (i dont think mitsi supports imports? may be wrong, but i dont think they have info on the japan domestic market vehciles) you may be off the road for long periods of time if something goes wrong...
i have seen dramas happen time and time again with imports with time done in nissan, mazda, mercedes and isuzu.
hence, i dont like imports...

Good points

Re the parts issue, I looked into it before I bought mine and came to the conclusion that mechanically it was a Pajero and bodywise it was a Starwagon which to a certain extent is true but the alterator was different (bloody wel had to be when I was paying didn't it!) and had to come up from Brissie but even so a lot is interchangeable just check out the Delica cub website

T3 Syncro with engine swap? won't that do the same job?

Hi Neil,
these are very popular here in NSW.... I see them everywhere I go....
Mitsubishi is a good brand IMHO...
Are You looking at one??

Just remember that parts that are abundant and readily available, ie old Holden, are cheap, if they're thin on the ground or only sold through specialist suppliers, they can charge what they want.
Sure some parts may be interchangable, but like what's already been said, the small things will stuff you and then there's trying to find out which parts are interchangable and from what models and how can you find out when Mitsubishi most likely doesn't have any parts listings.
Everything you want for it you have to stuff around trying to find something to fit instead of just getting it easily over the counter.
Want aftermarket accessories? Forget it.
Insurance can be expensive and hard to get (which should tell you something)
A small problem which might see a local vehicle sidelined for a week can see an import parked up for months and if after waiting for months they've sent the wrong part, then there's another couple of months.
Send it to the mechanic to work on, but he hasn't got a manual for the thing.
Imports can be a major headache which is best left for someone else and as a mechanic I hate the things and wouldn't in good conscience recomend them.

i called my mate at mistubishi, and he says dont buy one!
though mitsi does somewhat support parts for imports (the dealership has to get all the vehicle info together and send it off to adelaide where they take a few days getting back with part numbers) they then find the parts hard to come by as it is only loosely based on the pajero engine with a lot of differences (adr's play a big factor there) that not only change the emission gear but hard engine parts.. also take into consideration that their is a big chance that a dealership wont have the parts you need on hand so you cant simply walk into a dealer and ask to compare a part to the one in your hand a lot of the times.... also factor in the time it takes to get a part ordered in from their melbourne warehouse.... all these little things can hurt...
as sandy said, be prepared for hold ups... if you have a smash, be prepared for 2nd hand parts to be used due to lack of availability and cost.
good luck though!

personal opinion here, driven one once, they are comfy, go ok, have enuf power, but nothing special, parts are harder to get than say for a hiace etc just because of the import factor, and other than that, however they are but ugly, well to me anyway

I agree with Sandy nothing quiet the same with imports and sometime a simple thing as a oil filter is hard to get hold of. And if you want a 4wd buy a pajero. You want a van just buy an australian made mitsubishi van.
ancientbugger ·
Things like oil filters, air filters and fuel filters aren't a problem. Even the radiator header tank was supplied and fitted by a local bloke up here in Noosa. Ours is a basic Exceed model but when you're looking at some of the extravagant versions like Royal Super Exceed and what have you then you'll start having problems especially with all the fancy bits like the suspension which can be raised/lowered, made firmer all electronically, crystal roofs with the automatic blinds etc. Anything really that is exclusive to that model Delica. By the way I thought my tracking was out as the front passenger tyre was going bald but my mate informed me it was down to the local Noosa council sticking roundabouts everywhere as the buses he drives wears the same tyres out!
