Looks damn fine. Once the Cab is sold look out for a phone call!
kroozzn63 ·
no probs looking for small projects no charge just paint costs,
until i start charging
twoguns ·
what about my splitta. but i woudl like you not ot do any other matt black splittas! what ya think?
ColumBUS ·
and to think i was gonna buy it and scrap it for parts...
you can see it all at the Flat 4 Shootout this sunday!!
kroozn im buying a new toy soon, expect a call, thats jst fantastic
pyr0 ·
very sweet stuff mate 👍 looks the biz for sure 😎
kroozzn63 ·
pity the rear shot has a bit of sun glare cant see it reel good but yeah shes gunna be a the shoot out
VWFOOL ·
can i just ask how that is on vintage rego plates?
barls ·
nice work on the pin-striping mate im just curious how you get around not having front guards i didn't see any axle mounted ones ether unless they weren't on in the pics.

i think you guys can guess that greedy has made a choice. there are three.
1/ run the risk.
2/ bodge the report. buy it/steal it/ know a mate/ or forge.
3/ go about it right and get the approval.
what does it matter to you guys. you know its not correct, but why be concerned?:P
its about the art, anyway:thumb!
ColumBUS ·
it is legally approved, i think it has been put down as a kit car. steve told me the whole process when i came to look at it but it was up with kroozn getting striped
kroozzn63 ·
the guards fell of on the way to my warehouse they will be back on for the shoot out
but as kikko said full legal "kitcar"
barls ·
thanks fish and kroozz thats all i wanted to know was if they were missing, cause i thought i remembered a set there but wasnt sure. wes i agree it is about the art but as previously stated somewhere on here any idiot can modify but it takes real genius to make it legal
VWFOOL ·
sorry so how did he get the vintage plates? im interested for my own car.
brendan knows my thoughts on his work.
ColumBUS ·
its registered as a vintage kitcar, same way as you would go about getting vintage plates for a vintage standard classic car or hotrod.
VWFOOL ·
ok cool, thanks for the info
kroozzn63 ·
smart work not hard work!
smart and hard is good too. ha ha
twoguns ·
sorry KK. but there aint no way that it is legal a 'kit car'. it is jsut highly modified beetle. it would be hard to believe that their club is allowing this properly, considering so many vintage clubs have very strict rules so that they may maintain the priviledge of having the plates in the first place. i could be wrong, but i would say it is very border line. if not i would like ot join this club, as i have many that i would like on those vintage plates. youve got me going now KK.
byronbus ·
We havent had a good discussion on here for a while...where's dave?
Wes i have a singlecab you can put on club plates...
twoguns ·
hey i thought you sold/selling it?
byronbus ·
Had some offers from OS but im a bit reluctant and was going to trade for something but the logistics were too hard...
back to the topic...how did this thing get passed as a kit car?
ColumBUS ·
well thats what i think it is registered as, possibly a hotrod, but i think that hotrods need to be a certain age again.
what i do know is that it is fully rta approved and inspected as is and is totally legal. i remember steve talking about it being registered as a kit car, thats why he was looking for the fibreglass bonnet shaped like a hotrod (the same one as on bluey's v8 beetle hotrod)
twoguns ·
you are aware that even if the engineer signs off, that the RTA can still withdraw your rego, if it feels its not true. a hot rod, has a lot more rules than no fenders or front guards!
maybe the word needs to come from greedy, if he is interested, rather than 'third party'.
like i said... only three ways.:kiss
hey kr00zn. i will be chatting to you soon, tep back on topic. i have two things i deciding, first. :thumb
[ Edited on 31/10/2005 by twoguns ]
kroozzn63 ·
yeah somthing like kikko that the rta said well because of the amount of fibreglass! its a kitcar blah blah blah and shazzzam lets keep it like that or u2u greedy51 hell tell you exacty because he didnt want hassles with cops so he did it according to the rta rules.

To legally be classed as a "Hotrod" it must be a Pre 1948 car..
However, and this is where the Sillyness comes in to it..
You can go out and buy a Brand New fiberglass reproduction 1932 Ford body, mount it on a brand new 1932 Ford reproduction chassis, fit a Brand New V8 engine from a 2005 XR8, along with the gearbox, differential and brakes, have the car wired all new using digital instruments and have it trimmed and finished using ALL Brand New Parts, then get it registered as a "1932 Ford Hotrod"...!
On the other hand, you Can Not take a 1970 "Type 1" VW Beetle, which, despite several redesign evolutions, still bears a STRIKING resemblance to The Vehicle that was first designed and mass produced during the 1930's, 1940's and onward, Make some "Hotrodding Changes", such as chopping the roof and removing the fenders, (just like they do on 1932 Fords), YET, the vehicle will Still NOT be considered a "Hotrod"...
If ANY Vehicle should be eligible for "Hotrod Status" it is most surely the Volkswagen Beetle, but due to the narrow mindedness and Purist attitude of many hotrodders, the beetle will remain a car to be snubbed and ridiculed...
Good thing we know better..
I have always maintained the following phrase to those who ask "Why"..??
I say, "If you have never owned one, you would Never understand"...
Perhaps when my Volksrod hits the road, it may change a few opinions, and if it doesn't, I really don't care...
:P

ps. Greedy, your "Rod" Looks great...!!!! I hope you drive the wheels off it and have a great time....!!!!

ok i knew this would happen so i will tell ya i spent 2 days at the rta with photoes and engernears reports and receipts also infomation on vw based kit cars from the 60-70
BGW made and still makes rod kits mine is based on one of these it has yo be a nos kit or a copy of a kit using pre 1975 parts to do this you will have to do your home work and get proof of the kit and design
this car has beeen checked for normal rego and will pass but as i only use it on club related outings i can't afford to have it sitting a home 360 days a year doing nil
it is in the RTA records as a 34 ford vrod replica on a 1971 pan and body parts
rules are rules and i followed them so that there would be no troubles with the RTA or my club so for other people well that don't count
you can historic rego 356 porsche myers manix and many other early kit cars BUT MENTION HOTROD and all get excited all i can say is DO YOUR HOME WORK the word HISTORIC is important not vintage and as there were a very small amount of these cars made they truely are endangered and need saving
this car is apart more than it is running not because it's broken but because i'm always trying to improve it to the origional look so if anyone knows where i can get a 40 ford bonnet i will personally hump your leg in gratitude
greedy
ps the old rod pictured is in america and is a BGW kitbase job with it seems some personal touches

youre a pioneer greedy. to know you can go and get this thing fully rego'd, has jsut about made mine and a few others day. except for that poor bastard in canberra who bought klaacks volksrod, and got not get it rego'd so he had to revert it back and is now selling it.
bring out hte 'hotrod' "34 FORD' kitcars. there are going to be a few of these at the upcoming shows!
greedy51 ·
he could get it regestered if he improved the front and rear gards mounting setup but he couldn't work out how so went back to origional same old story if its hard don't do it than complain about the system it's not the system its the will to do it thats lacking
greedy51 ·
there are many other style of kit cars volksrodas it amatter of finding them and there kits with proof thats all thats stopping these from getting acceptance the will and patience and work involved no one is going to walk up and give ya anything you want it you do you find it you work on it notice the important word here YOU
ColumBUS ·
amen
VWFOOL ·
congratulations to you, great u got it passed legally. i still dont get how it is a replica of a kit though, are u referring to the one pictured?
i dont see the resembalance. have you added any non VW parts to it or just removed the roof and rear fenders?
greedy51 ·
one non vw part is the front seat the rest is kit or removal and as for no likeness look close and remove parts and add bits as nearly all v rods were built around kits and not as kits that is why they were rods and not manix or 356 or mg's or eureka's or sabers or do i really have to go on i have been do this research for 2 years and maney hours with the RTA not a friend or a service station but the government and if anyone has done anything with government they will know i had a tough time to get this far and i am ready for the rest
shiftyvw ·
Not my style but whatever floats your boat....
I still cant see how that was accepted for vintage plates.
ColumBUS ·
its quite simple, its a registered kit car replica... very eligible for the plates, its just a pain in the behind to get past all of the beaurocratic crap
twoguns ·
Kroozin_Kikko wrote:its quite simple, its a registered kit car replica... very eligible for the plates, its just a pain in the behind to get past all of the beaurocratic crap
replica of a replica... hahaha.
there aint no kit bits on there. and no offence steve, i like ya, but i reckon you hoodwinked em, and good on you for it. i am happy you got it thru!
but dont you guys tell us its a 'kitcar' or any crap like that. a replica of a kitcar is soo funny. its a bug with some fatchick flared guards on the back, none on the front and a chopped roof. and a couple of bucket lights.
would like to know which club youre a member of, as i would like to join and get a car or too on plates. can you assist us fellow dubbers with that, please?
pod ·
what a hot topic ,have seen one of those cars for sale last year in a car yard on woodville rd with the ford front and chopped roof but it had ugly guards on it,membership forms will be at the shootout on sunday😁
kroozzn63 ·
YEAH thanks for the pinstriping critisism HA HA .
least it got people going aye greedy
bugeyedbabe ·
kroozzn that pin stripping is great, and not just because u've only just started.
Given the others I've seen on the forum, I reckon this work would stand against them any time.
The fact ur a beginner, well...can't wait to se how well and how much u improve in a year or two.
And yeah, have no idea why the others didnt bother to comment about it (heaps are usually so happy to critisise others work)
Anway, imho you did good. nice lines, pretty even and symetrical...just the way stripping should be.
greedy51 ·
yep talk is good and as for no kit parts oh my god no plastic what was i thinking
and a replica of a replica kit car what do ya think any 2nd or 3 rd kit is ya nong
no more about the rod it's the striping that here to be talked over

HotRodMatt ·
I won't comment on the car as that's not what this thread is about.
The lines...
Hard to believe you're a beginner. Good control of the brush and excellent symmetry. Though sometimes the lines benefit from a few asymmetrical areas.
My only negative criticism would be the spacing. Stripes look best when there is less space between them. Not covering so much area might improve them - that would tighten the design. But design comes with time and tuning your eye to find the right spot of the car and how much to cover.
Keep it up kroozzn.
shiftyvw ·
being a super will any of the ford bonnets even fit?
shiftyvw ·
and when is your replica getting the SBC in the front?
kroozzn63 ·
thanks hotrodmat i agree ,and on the sKaReCrO insignia if of centre i was rushing ,something that shouldnt be done when pinstriping ,
Practice is what is needed and then i will scale down brushes this is done with a 0 mack
sword striper when i get a bit better i will start using a 00

good point i see more work ahead

Can I put a VW badge on my Falcon and say it is a replica of a Ford and get H plates?
ColumBUS ·
nope, your falcon isnt over 30 years old, or listed on the historic vehicles register. putting that idea to the rta would be plain stupid.
greedy51 ·
here are some rod catalogs there are more if ya look
shiftyvw ·
Im not trying to start an argument here but....I can see what your argument is for getting this vehilcle registered but the the reality is those replica's look a little bit like 30's fords. Your replica of the replicas just looks like a beetle with the roof chopped of and no front gaurds and a crap spray can paint job! (with nice pinstipes though). It bears no similarity at all to a beete/ford kit car let alone a real ford!!!! Personally I think its just Fugly, but thats only my opinion.
I hope rat rod lynch mob isnt waiting for me at the shootout!!
twoguns ·
greedy. stop now.
you have pulled it over with the rta, and like i said good on you for it.
but you, i, and everybody else here knows it aint no more a kit car, than a hack job convertable, and if you jsut put those flared glass guards on the front that is what you would have.
you got away with, and you have opened a huge oportunity for many more to try. what you gotta watch is that you dont get many trying to use your vehicle as an example when they all start trying to register their 'Grease' mobiles (thats what it looks like), cause the rta is gonna turn round and go 'sorry mate, but we made a mistake and we are revoking your rego!'
and kroozn, keep up your effort mate... good to see some one adding to the vw scene. you will get a kick arse rep for sure... you and ur ute!👍
HotRodMatt ·
krooznn... Pistol Pete Green is hoping to emigrate back here to Oz in a year or so as his recovery continues. I'm sure he'll be happy to give some pointers to aspiring linesmen.
shiftyvw ·
now those are some nice lines!
HotRodMatt ·
Bugger it... I wasn't going to comment on the car.
Wouldn't that thing require an engineers report?
Roof hacked off. Roll cage below drivers head. Windscreen size decrease. Those wide rear rims. The width ratio between front and rear tyre.
Funny how the RTA says anything requiring an engineeers certificate is not eligible for historical rego (other than conversion from mechanical to hydraulic brakes).
Good for you greedy that you pulled it over their eyes. Possibly not so good for those who have legit historical vehicles under the scheme.

was taking it to the shootout but will be to much trouble so leave it at home all i wanted was some fun and may be encouragement will wait to see all your efforts
shiftyvw ·
What club were the plates issued through?
kroozzn63 ·
greedy i hope your joking , you better take it to the shootout
bugeyedbabe ·
greedy,
just take it. Show off the lines, and if anyone asks how u did it...start with all the paper for, pics from mags etc...and hand them the club applications.
And just say "I did it, with perserverance, so u can too. If u really really want it, it will happen"
But yeah, u should take it, even if its just so kroozzn can show off his work.
twoguns ·
greedy. mate, dont get us wrong. i think we are all proud for the fact you got that ride and even more so you got it passed. even impressed. we all know it as a 'hotrod' beetle, and am sure you will get mixed comments on it, and that is what its about. shit, i get ripped as i have 'rice' wheels on my bus, but i dont worry about it. its jsut that calling it a kitcar is a bit left field.😁
Adam_C ·
Chromies are SO 1998 wes.... you should know that!
Steve, i think you should have taken it to the shootout. It was your clubs show, and to be honest it would have caused a stir having it there which is what it needed coz there wasnt much else going on..... we needed some dramas haha

it was coming except a blocked fuel line in the tank stopped her at leppington 🙁

Personally I think it serves you all right for bagging him out. I don't personally love the super nose on it, but the taillights and pin stripes are awesome. As a package the car rocks. But no, everyone wanted to get all cranky about 'historic' rego. More like 'Hysteric' rego!

Sorry just seems like the same debate all over again. Gene Berg etc etc. At least it's got a certificate and rego. Seems like he's been up front to me. And I reckon at the end of the day, a hot rod is a state of mind more than a sterile definition.
And the car is not like so many others. I can think of at least one guy on this forum who just swaps the plates on his cars when he wants to drive the unregoed one on the street or at street meets. :o
1303Steve ·
Hi
This car has certainly broken sone new ground with the RTA, I think the real problems will arise when someone from a geriatric car polishers club spots the historic plates and has a whinge to the RTA.
So with this line of reasoning with the RTA can beach buggy be put on historic rego or Powertune beetle with a 2180 stage 5 motor? I have a Powertune catalogue from the old days with all the specs of the different models.

And that is the guts of the problem. People with nothing better than to make other people's life hard by complaining about things that don't matter. Unfortunately, these are the types that keep classic car clubs going for no other reason than wanting to have one up on someone else. Must be hard being the only one who's 'right'. :o

we don't have tradition round here and that's the way it's always been!
Louis ·
The question would be has the RTA ever seen the car?
One of my Falcons is on H plates. If the club has held H plates for two years or more you don't even have to have a pink slip, just a statement on the papers that it is roadworthy. The RTA never sees the cars.
Our club went through all the hoops with the assistance of the Street Machine Association's lawyers for a member who had a XT Falcon with all the 'factory' bits to make it a XT Falcon GT replica.
It could not be granted H plates.
This thing above is no way right. It would never even pass for normal registration. Having it on an unregistered scheme is madness.
ColumBUS ·
louis, dont you have anything better to do?
i was keeping tabs on this project with greedy the whole way, and i can ceritfy that the rta has seen it and it is legally registered.
please explain why it wouldnt pass for normal registration?
1303Steve ·
Hi
What did they say about not having front mudguards, I thought that they were needed.
Steve
ColumBUS ·
there are front mudguards on it, but not in that picture. they are hot rod style guards attached to the struts that legally cover the wheel. i'll try and find some lookalike pictures
ColumBUS ·
... just so you get the idea... damn pic is too big but here's a link... an awesome rod if you ask me!
I can understand why the vintage guys have a whinge, the plates are a priviledge and if people abuse it then they will lose the scheme which they run under. All it takes is a car like this one to be involved in an accident etc.
The plates are basically available for historical preservation purposes, and for the life of me i cant work out what is being preserved of historic value in this case?
As for street rod registraion i have no idea?? Does it have engineering certificates for all the body mods? if so why cant it be registered normally as an independently constructed car or something?
ColumBUS ·
its a '36 ford replica based on a vw body... all it needs now is the bonnet (yeah it ooks a little fat with the super front end, but i still love it) to be made and it is 100% complete.
as you can see by the catalogue greedy posted, it is a geuine replica kit that was made way back when, so why cant it be on historic plates.
i could understand why people would go crazy if it was classed as a 73 superbug on historic plates... then theres no way it could happen.
all body work has engineering certificates, i looked at them when i was going to buy the car during the build process. steve doesnt want this to be registered normally, as he only takes it out on weekend club runs, no point in keeping it registered for a bucket of cash every year only to use it every now and then, thats why he went through all of the trouble to get this thing registered historically legally. no hoodwinking, no wool over anyones eyes... if he gets pulled over by a cop, sure theyll check... only to find that it is done perfectly legally.
Louis ·
The similarity is astounding.
Is it a replica of the cabriolet, the convertible sedan, or the roadster?
pete wood ·

If that thing had any semblance to even the kit you reckon of which it is a replica it still wouldn't be a valid arguement. The company did not begin until 1977 and those kits which were never called replicas were not available until late 1979.

This is my last post on this topic, Its not a genuine replica kit! there are no elements of a kit even on this car!! its a sunbug with no gaurds and a chopped screen! even with the bonnet your pulling yourselves!
If he had an excact kit produced over 30 years ago he may have a point, BUT HE DOESNT!!!! he has modified sunbug!
And how was it registered as vw 36 ford replica when it hasnt even had the 36 ford bits even procured for it yet???? let alone fitted!!!!
It gets up my nose because i would like to put a 70 beetle with period correct stroker motor on IDA's etc, period wheels interior etc etc. on historic plates.
Basically a period correct cal looker for taking to club days and a bit of drag racing. And I know there isnt a chance of hell in getting it on historic plates. So how does this thing that bears no resemblance to anything around at the time get on historic plates???
if anyone can refer me to a club that will let a 12 or 13 sec beetle run on historic plates please let me know!!
