What width wheels?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/45420/what-width-wheels

I want to change the wheels on my bug as it has 14 x 6 1/2" rims on it now. The tyre combination is 3 inches smaller in diameter than the stock spareso the gearing is not right.

The question is; What size rim/tire will fit on the front and still give me enough room to lower it a bit further ( guard just over the tyre)

I have seen some 5 1/5" empi chrome steel rims but i am not sure of the offset or what size tyre i need for it.
I am mainly trying to find out where the rim sits in relation to the edge of the guard so it can be lowered without scraping too much.

Rear is not a problem as i want to use the same size rim but a larger tyre to get the gearing closer to standard

I thinki read some where you have a standard bug??

I am biased but i reckon the V Force spyder is the best bang for buck

15" x 6" with 36 and 20 ET

The new VWMA has an add for them and the white bug in the bottom (1976 standard) is running them with 50 profile tires. This "only" has adjusters and not dropped spindles and no rubbing at all.

For the $$$ they are brillant value

Gee, Barry, are you abit biased? I reckon so! 😀

My bug is a 63 with wide 5's. The current wheels fillthe gurds completely and therefore the car can't be lowered any further.

The Vforce Spyders look good but I dont think they would suit the car even if they did fit.

what look are you after?

theres many options from 195 to 135 15's what do you want?

NB: the wider you go the hevier the steering gets 🤪

Bizarre ·

The wider you go the better the grip

If you are wide 5 the spyders wont fit without a lot of mucking round
