Will pop-out quarter windows from a 1965 beetle fit a 1972 beetle ??? I have a pair for sale and my friend wants to know before he buys them....Thanks Kyle :jesus

no, they won't...72 has a bigger side window

How much are they?

If you are talking about a US spec '65 Beetle, they will fit a '72. Easy way to check is if the latches go through the glass they will fit '65 and later US spec Beetles.

Aussie Beetles are different, we didn't get the bigger windows till '68, so in Australia if the latches go throught the glass, they will fit '68 and later.

whilst on this subject...
I was having a look at the pop out windows on a Diahatsu Mira today.. Now obviously the windows themselves won't fit a beetle, but the mechanism would be very simple to adapt to a beetle..
They have 3 holes ("drilled"??) in the glass, 2 on the front edge and one on the back..
The glass has no frame and the hinges are bolted through the front holes, top and bottom, the catch is in the back one and it snaps the window back against a rubber water proof seal...
No reason why this system couldn't be fitted to a beetle and many many Asian 3 door lift back cars use them so the parts would be very cheap to buy..
If someone in Perth wants to give it a try, I will donate the next set of hinges and clips I get...
Thinking about fitting them to my Volksrod Project too....

sorry, I didn't look at Location, Menangler is on the money👍

WAbaja , i have a set of 6v beetle pop outs just like that, with the 3 bolts.

How do you drill holes in the glass? Sounds like a good idea.

Hi

There was a company doing a similar thing as WA Baja suggested. They were called California Pops from memory. Older falcon utes also had nice latches.

thats funny, I have my pop-outs open All the time but when I had an XD ute, years back, I don't think I ever opened them...they did have a tidy little latch on them though

Any glassier with a tool kit will have diamond tip drill bits...
You can buy them from Bunnings but they're not real cheap...
Lucky I have a mate that does glass...
One night I accidently smashed the back window in one of my tow trucks, drove straight to his workshop, he cut a new window and the truck was back on the road in about 1 hour...
If they can Cut it.. They can drill it too...:bounce

ps... Ya might have to Centre Puch it first, just to get the hole in the right spot....:P

Interesting that you should mention using the thru-glass fittings on pop outs - I have already made the templates for the glass to be cut and have a selection of hinges from various cars (but not the Mira...yet!) so I can experiment. I have decided to use the latches from the Type III pop-out windows....

I have sooooo much going on here at the moment it will probably be after Christmas before I get a chance to finish the job, but when I do I will post the results here.
