I 2nd Ben Durie. 100% helpful all the time and has a LOT of experience and good advice. His work is good, though he's always busy.

I will only recomend Ben Durie.
He is the only VW mechanic in Newcastle that hasn't fitted anything dodgy or given me Bum advise on anything.
His workmanship and service are excellent.
even his apprentice actually knows what he is doing. 😀
My Vw's only go to him and i am extreamly happy with the service i get, hence the plug for him in my sinature.

^ - John Darling Automotive at Belmont is good, I bought a repaired L bug gearbox off him years back. It's a traditional crusty workshop with crap piled in the corners, but nice people and have not heard anything bad about their work.

I am a motor mechanic, and I have always used Ben for help. The man is a VW legend and his shop is top class! I cant say enough for the man. THE BEST in this area. Just have to lok at his race cars and the results he gets, that sums up his knowledge of these classics. and he is opened saturdays till about 1pm.
