Updated pics. Spats half finished, Bumpers on, now need to find some rusty old spotlights to give it some character.Need to find some vintage wires, maybe a cord from an old iron or something.

We got our whitewalls at Antique tires if you are looking for some. Not cheap but look great

Thanks for the tip, but I plan to keep the Smart Car tyres on and get them whitewalled. Canterbury tyre and mag wheel centre can white wall them any size you like for $45 each. The Smart tyres give me plenty of clearance to the headlight buckets and they get the car nice and low. They stop really well in the wet too.

Its the front tyre that is used on the Smart Car that Merecedes Benz make. The tyre is a Continental 145/65. 15 They are great on slammed bugs cause they are VERY low profile and pretty narrow in the side wall, so they wont rub on anything. Most people only run them on the front, but I run them on the rear too, so I only have to drop the rear 2 outer notches, and its on its guts. Great handling tyre too.

wow, you running the conti's front and rear!? Did you get a taller final drive ratio for compensate for the reduced rolling diameter? And did you get your speedo recalibrated? I'm running the Conti's on the front too - love em..

Ive heard that potawalls can go on them, but u have to watch youre tyre pressures all the time, but u can get them whitewalled the old way pretty cheap so Ill do that, at least they cant come off then. Hey Handycam, if you are ever coming up melbourne way, let me know, I can get them through my work at dealer cost, (about $120 each inc GST), saves about $80 per tyre.

spats were made by myself, not an easy job as i found out, had 2 make templates etc, and many trial fits, as for the faded paint and signs, now that would be giving away my secrets, with a bit of luck, will have spats and faded signs (on your car, or just sign boards etc) available to the public, along with a few other goodies directed at the volksrat scene. watch this space.

Thanks guys, yeah the roofrack was loaded to the max at the jambo, 2 suitcases, dragster bike, old esky, vintage wireless, beach ball, fishing rod, 2 old golf clubs, ratty old cricket bat,and an old boat oar.was surprised how much you can fit, wait till I get a decklid rack.

Wall speak of Hertz, your car looks more reliable than the one that I left Vegas with. Prius lasted 1 hour and had to wait in Needles Ca. for a replacement. Now have travelled thru Nevada, Arizona, Mexico, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming and currently in Billings Montana on the way to Washington then Vancouver Canada b4 heading back thru Washington, Oregon, Utah back to Las Vegas, Nevada. Fair old road trip in the replacement Mazda6. Thank you Mr Hertz. Had a great time yesterday at Mt Rushmore and today at Little Big Horn. volma1

Stay tuned for some sneek shots of the rattiest mother of all deck lid racks. Getting the old girl rego'd on Tuesday then its full on with some crazy changes, and back to mother earth again. This old rental will be turning heads shortly.
