New thread, sorry for the hijack MarkMark..


(For those that don't know)

We are planning a Super Cruise in Perth for VW's...
At this stage a date of Saturday March 11th is being looked at..
(early days, if this date clashes, please advise).

Suggested route is meet at Fast Eddy's Carousel shopping centre, heading down to Freo, park and chat for a while, maybe at Capt'n Munchies, then cruise up to Perth, go through the city and Northbridge, regroup at Barrack Street Jetty, then head up to Scarbrough for a drive through the area and continue on up the coast to Hillaries for a park and chat and then go our seperate ways from there...

Please express your interest here, or objection should that date clash..
Being a few months ahead should ensure a good turn out of cars, the weather will still be nice around then and anyone with projects on the go, will hopefully have a chance to get them finished in time...

as I said, early days so let's hear what you have to say...

A Little hint:
Check out the which roads are closed in the city on the weekends due to railworks, as it can be mad. Cant remember which days its listed in The West but can save a lot of headaches.

Hi Danny.

I think that a cruise like that is a great idea.

The annual Classic Car Show at Whiteman Park is on, on the 19th of March next year.

This year the VW Club had a very small showing there because there was a big club event the next weekend, which was Easter.

It was WA's turn to conduct the annual BUG IN event, so I assume that that was why our presence at Whiteman was so small.

I suggest being two weeks away from any other big event to make sure of a good turn out.

I was thinking it might get people MORE interested in going to fly plague park... errr I mean Whiteman Park, if they are still all exicted about having been on the Super Cruise the week before....😉

I am at work on the 11th but get home a few days later.

If we can make a concrete decision on the date, I'll take some annual leave to come along.

I know some people, not on the forum, who would love to come along too.

Danny. I have no problem with the 11th. I was merely pointing out a possible problem with it. You are quite probably right about getting more people because of a cruise as big as the one you are considering the week before Whiteman. One can only try it and see what happens. Richard.

ummm...just a thought....when the perthrotary club first started up and i was a member. for there first cruise..they designed a simple black and white pamphlet (well one side of small paper). that was put up to be printed out and then stuckl under the window wiper of all rotary cars spotted by members.. this may be a good idea for this too if u want it big.

soeone design one, print it out and if you see someone driving a vw pass it onto them or if you see one parked, put it under the windscreen wiper. might get ourselves quite the large cruise.

Take lots of photos please - Might like to ask Kurt (Vee Dub Repairs and Spares) to bring his gold L bug along.... and I know the guys at Vee Dub center in Ozzy park have some nice cars too.....

yeah i will be making some calls/visits to both kurt and the veedub centre sometime this week anyway. will be sure to print out a copy of what was seena nd hand it to them.

thought day time 11th was better actually, more chance for public to see the cars, some cars could promote the the whiteman park show the folowing week, the organisers of whiteman show might even provide some funding to promote their gig if they were approached.

if it is to be for splitties only though, just say so from the get go

i think they mean that it would be good to have some splitties included, not solely splitties only.....bring anything vw or aircooled i don't think dan would have a problem with it. But yeah agree perhaps a daytime cruise for the next one - don't leave it too late though danny we want the girlies to still be wearing bikinis as they are joggin along west coast drive....ok, now i'm off on my own little 'baywatch' tangant :P

This was organised as a car cruise, not a cross promotion for someone elses event, it is not in conjuntion with, connected to, or associated with any club or company...
If anyone wants to organise another run that will promote other people, shows, cruises or companies whilst still giving the participants the opportunity to perve on women in swimsuits, be my guest..

look back over the post. no one objected to the 11th, then suddenly the date was changed for no reason i can see, other than some hot headed reaction to a comment that the following weekend was another event, which could just as easily been interpreted as "sounds great!!!"

check a previous comment previously also along the lines , it will be great to see lots of splitties in convoy.

from experience, no one gives a rats about anything other than the splitties, so why bother

Kombi69, There was ample time for people to object, Richard pointed out that the Whiteman Park thing was on and that had some bearing on it..
Several members are working on cars and by having the event a couple of weeks later, these others may have a better chance of attending...
Also this event has been promoted on Other Forums and the ultimate time frame descision was not left up to anyone on THIS site, but I will admit to being biased in allowing the concerns of members HERE to have a greater bearing on the final date, as opposed to persons from other sites...
Several member here will confirm that for you...

Isn't it funny how some people only see what they WANT to see...

Every other brand of car has a cruise and lots of people go along and have a great time... Even Hyundia Excels..!!!

I'm sorry if this date does not fit in with your calender of events but you and everyone else were given ample time to object... There's no point leaving it till after Mark has spent money out of his own pocket to print up flyers advertising the whole thing, on a date that (at the time) everyone agreed on and as the date for the event draws closer and closer, it would be unfair to those that might be trying to get cars finished, to move it forward by 2 weeks...

Now, I don't want to get into a whole argument scene with you about this, as, at the end of the day, it's Just a freakin' drive around, there are no prizes, no trophies, nothing to gain except a bit of fun and a laugh...

So, I am sorry if you can't make it, I hope you have no hard feelings over this and trust you can move on and perhaps have your say in another, similar event in the future...

if these events attracted and WELCOMED anyone with a VW maybe the turnout would be better.

you sure you're talking about the right town/state/country? I haven't met anyone like that. I'm only new to the whole scene but have hung out with plenty of folk in the clubs as well as industry types and just dudes with dubs - I haven't come across a single wanker yet. In fact I reckon the local scene is the most relaxed one I've experienced. you've obviously had some bad experiences and that's a shame.

as previously mentioned the members on this forum that have shown interest in tending dont own splittys.

im sure we would like as many vdubs to go, however if you are going to attend and have a negative attitude towards everyone as you seem to now then i personally would not enjoy your company.

THIS IS NOT A SPLITTY ONLY CRUISE AND IM SURE NO-ONE WILL BE SLANDERING/RIPPING PEOPLE OFF WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING AROUND THE CITY.

it is made for people to have a good time. however if people act in such a way that you have there will most likely cease to be any further organisation of cruises in the future therefore ruining it for the rest of us.

please dont be selfish and just show up with a smile on ya dial.

No worries Danny, I'll drop them off to Moose as soon as I can. I printed off about 30, that should be enough. If you need more, we can just do some normal photocopies.

Quite a few people that I spoke to about this are disaooointed that this isn't going ahead. Maybe we could meet for an informal cruise anyway.

What I had in mind was meeting up on the 25th March at 7:30pm at Hillarys Marina (North end carpark, near the boat ramps), then take off for a cruise down the coast, through Scarborough and stopping off for a burger in Freo. If we feel like more we can then head into the city (maybe KIngs Park).

What do you reckon????????????????????????

I still wish I could make it mark mark but I'm working at Barbagallo raceway all day then down to the nitro funny cars at motorplex 🙁

If there's any decision to change the date/time to maybe Sunday 26th around 5-6pm though you can count me in 😉 Only cause its the only time i'll have a weekend free in the next few months...

It would be ok to do it on a Sunday as long as we start at 5 -6pm like you said, some people may not want to stay out too late on Sunday night. Also if we stop off for a burger in Freo it will be roughly tea time then👍

Sorry Toecutter....The RagRat will not be making a presentation..... The front disc hubs are at the engineer getting some mods done and the beam and drop spindles are currently going through inspection, so the car is in lots of pieces right now!
The engine is also out as the heads are getting a freshen up.... Soon to be sending them over to Shimo in Wollongong.... The best peformance head dude in Oz, IMHO!
Plus the Dellortos are coming off the 1776 and EFI is going on.

But I might have the slammed OG paint Notch there if I get it registered in time! Just waiting on the new indicator/dimmer switch to arrive and then it will be ready to send to reg.... As soon as thats done, its slam time! Keep an eye out for the lowest TIII in Perth.... That will be me!

But if all else fails.... I still have the Square! Or hitch a ride with one of the crew!
