Anthiron ·
glad u lost those torana lights.
looking good.
hellbugged ·
lookin rather slammed.
any pics of ya bag set up?
baggedbug68 ·
yeah going back to standard lights the carrera fenders were not my thing lol. still gotta get mags yet not sure what to do there?
baggedbug68 ·
hope they come up ok, this is the rear set up not a good quality pic but may give you an idea of things
baggedbug68 ·
the set up you see is similar to the air kewld one in the states with an arm that links to the floor pan then to the lower shock mount on the swing arm, if you look closely you can see iv'e notched the rear swing arm (not really recomened) but if you want to go low its the only way.
DRA93N ·
Yeah brother, lookin good man, keep workin on it!! I am haning to see this thing rolling!! Good work.
hellbugged ·
thanx for that!
baggedbug68 ·
the front is easy but also not recomened, an air shock type system with modded towers (to get the bigger dia shock in) and lower i have also got 2 inch drop spindels and a 2 inch narrowed beam(yet to go in).
ruckus ·
Dayum!
Nice work. Have you clearenced the front wheel arches?
akean1 ·
good to see someone doing this. :thumb

Good stuff - how does the rear torsion bars come into play? Are they mounted in the centre but allowed to turn effectively making them purely a pivot point rather than an active component of the suspension? (sorry if the question is worded strangely).
Also for the front? Will all the weight be loaded onto the shock towers - you mention they will be modded, is this for reinforcing to deal with the forces involved?
Sorry for all the the questions, I'm really interested though! Great work, certainly has come a long way since the original photo! 👍

airbags a possible addition to the dassdub eh dassdubber?
looking good though baggedbug! :thumb

1, Yes, The rear torsion bars are just loaction bars once the air bags are installed, a made pivot bar is installed to allow easy rolling once the air bags are set up. This also applies to the front torsion bars as well.
2, The shock is modded to allow the fittment of a bigger diameter air shock, not only do you have to create a wider shock tower raidus, but it also need extending by 2" at most to allow the car to go lower once deflaited.
All the recutting & installing should be reinforced as movement will put added pressure's onto those parts.
It also helps if you run a norrowed front beam for the wheels to go up into the higher point of the guard.
This is my brothers car, so this is why I can answer these questions, and I also am baggin my rat bug, and I have an air bagged toyota hilux.
Hope this helps you out mate.

Nah not the beetle...maybe the split panel in the future though.
Cheers DRA93N - I appreciate the info, thanks for the explanation. What state are you in? I guess the laws relating to such changes may vary from state to state?
baggedbug68 ·
sorry i havent answered but busy workin on the car.
kingroon ·
Mate, I remember seeing your car in it's original state for sale; what an amazing transformation! It looks awesome! I'm about to spray mine up and it's an inspiration to see how much a dub can be changed.. Eesh, those Torana lights were bad - what was the previous owner thinking??
Anyways, looking forward to **finished** photos defo..
DRA93N ·
Come on man, new pictures of her getting back to gother! I know the baywindow is now on the road, lets see the bug hit the roads!!

You too huh? I have the gauges sitting in my drawer ready to go, but thats it.. 🙁 Twin needles, two gauges, independant bag readings.. yay.
This is my goal too, so many will be watching this mate, and cheering as you go. Nectar was doing his Beetle in Vic, but I dunno if that is still going ahead or not.
Which state are you in? I'd like to know the legalities of it all too Alan..
squizy ·
Where's Damo (decked dubby)? Maybe he can answer NSW bag legalities?
DIY-DUB ·
NSW is legal, but u need mod plates, QLD the sheitter wont allow it at all, a holes i want bags 2, until i moved up here, will try dig out the info on them i found on legal stuff for nsw
BenettonVW ·
And now... drumroll.... Victoria?
DRA93N ·
Laws in NSW and across the country are going through a change. It is best to talk to your engineer off the state's RTA site from which your in.
Rumor has it that there will be a level set of guide lines for modifiing cars & light commercials.
These file should help those with questions on whats legal and whats not as this time.
baggedbug68 ·
hi guys have installed the gauges right of steering wheel just in front of fuses, wanted to keep the dash original would post pis but they just wont come up any info to get them on here would be good. out for now.

Dasdubber ·
Wow - it looks fantastic - kudos to you for all the hard work!
68_bug ·
Well done Jason! And you were telling me the other day that you were thinking of going back , to stock suspension, after all that amount of work, you crazy if you do ! looks great mate , well done again.
baggedbug68 ·
hi every one just to let you know my bug will be rego'd as it passed its roadworthy checks:thumb
boristherat ·
Well done.
This thing is gonna be simply awesome.
Keep up the great work, going green with envy as I speak!
Darren
baggedbug68 ·
well the bug got rego'd 17th of march but ran into a few problems the week after but is back on the road now and hope to have it in sydney for the vw nats.
weapon ·
OOOOOOOH YEAH. TIS VICKED
squizy ·
Great to see it at the Nats. Damn shame about the motor. What were the regulations and hassles you had with the bags for blue slip?
baggedbug68 ·
sorry to say but the bags where not in it for the bluey as the guy didn't want to know about it so it is illegal but how often do you think they pull over bugs cause they look illegal. oh and a mate will pink it for me(blind eye to the bags)
Sumo178 ·
what suspension are you running in the front? I hope its not just the air shocks with no leaves like the airkewled kit. If it is i'll suggest you change it before you kill yourself.
PrettyBlueBug ·
That Bug looks so damn awesome! Wicked lowness and the colour scheme is tops. Well done! 🙂
bond ·
looks nice!
congrats nick
baggedbug68 ·
to anyone who is interested the front end of my bug has a cb 2" narrowed front beam with adjusters, that are set to the lowest setting with air shock type set up but bigger and stronger than your normal run of the mill stuff.
