Are these Flared gaurds?

Hi take a look at this bug on the link

http://www.blaupunktusa.com/BlaupunktUSA/ShowCars/69vwbug.htm

Are they flared gaurds?? How much extra room do you get under flared gaurs would they fit 18 x 8 inch rims?

Thanks

they look flared to me

They are definately wider, but when I think of flared guards I think of these (the lip on the edge of the guard)

these are flared note the bump in the smooth curve of guard
