61 custom Karmann Ghia - more pics added

Dasdubber ·

This isn't mine (unfortunately) but I couldn't wait any more - I had to share a sneak pic of the KG undergoing some custom work at the moment. I'll let the owner fill in the story if he wishes....or just let people hang in suspense.

The owner is my brother-in-law....I'm sure at times he (and moreso his wife) have cursed me getting him into the vw scene - has probably cost him more time and money than anticipated. But hopefully has provided a lot of fun and satisfaction too. :bounce

VWFOOL ·

nbturbo ·

That's a nice set of wheels Alan(literally) I picked up a hoist just like that one just B4 Xmas-only mines blue-it has the same rib pieces welded to the uprights like that one.

Gibbo ·

I saw this at COR a couple of weeks ago.

I know what it was in for, and who it belongs to. But I aint telling!

Gonna be very trick. You lucky sod 'Mr X'

😉

GASBNR ·

Looks good from the pics I saw too,
Well done

PrettyBlueBug ·

Ooooh that's a nice KG! 😁

DIY-DUB ·

COR.... i smeellls a baja KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P

Dasdubber ·

Gibbo, I'm sure you know him :P

Here it is with some different shoes:

Volkswagenboy ·

Ooh I love the rims on the Beetle!

subibaja ·

should of stuck with those rims
in my opinion
but look sweet any way
terry

Dasdubber ·

Yeah wheels are certainly a personal preference thing - here is a shot with one of each (on its way to CO last year).

Hopefully will have some more shots soon (not sure if he has the KG back yet).

Dasdubber ·

Here are the Fuchs temporarily borrowed on my Beetle during its resto (and the ghia in the foreground with my BRMs):

The KG has custom four point roll cage, leather 911 seats, retractable seat belts....more details later.

71EJVan ·

I wish my garage looked like that!

VWFREAK ·

Nice, does he wan't another KG? lol

koolkarmakombi ·

I reckon you gonna need some horses to spin those up!

Hehehe...well the garage can be yours (or anyone else who wants to buy a nice renovated house in Tarragindi, Brisbane) - the cars don't come with the house sorry 🙂

I think this one is enough for Brad for now!

Watch this space - 2110cc coming soon. :P

Dasdubber ·

Just another few pics..

The pic with the fuchs is before the beam was narrowed 2inches. I saw the KG yesterday - looks very sweet - very low indeed!

MattY-64 ·

This is one very sweet KG. I saw it on Saturday.

Nearly needed a bib from all the drool.

The new stance makes it to die for......

Matt.

I think silver is the best colour to show of a KG's lines. Its a classic colour that says upper class. I have a thing for silver cars, I have had 4 now. Ever noticed how many expensive luxuary cars are painted silver. It looks great and reminds me of another one we have here in SA.
Nice choice in colour and wheels.

Just a few more shots - 2 inch narrowed beam....narrowed IRS conversion...CB performance disc brakes on all four corners. Brissy people will see more this weekend at dubs by the pub show.

boxofrabbits ·

thats some high quality motoring my friend :thumb

guru ·

Narrowed IRS? Could you share the conversion details.
I have 15x6 fuchs on the rear of my kg, with irs conversion, but would like a little more tyre to guard clearance.

crewcabconnection ·

Silver rocks ofr Ghias...droool....love the dash too. Who needs a house...?

Dasdubber ·

G'day guru - the guys at custom offroad narrowed the IRS rear end - probably best to have a chat to those guys for details as I am not 100% on what methods were adopted.

Thought I better update some pics of this beast - helped to get the narrowed front end sorted today including new steering box. It may be at the show this coming sunday (KlubVW show) - not 100% sure though. It will be at valla for sure.

First two pics - check out the meat under the rear!
The fronts are equally as sticky.

Dasdubber ·

Interior details at a glance include autometer gauges, alpine audio system (6.5in splits, 12in sub), custom rollcage, porsche seats, scat shifter etc.

And finaly just another sneak peek of what will be in there some time before valla - 2110 of fun! Street eliminators that have been opened up for better flow, nice size valves, 48 dells, mallory ignition, berg linkage etc.

This sweet lookin fun car will soon be a whole lot more fun! Stay tuned.

62deluxe ·

Sweet Ghia. Top quality all the way. Love the rubber. LOve it all really

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN ·

very sweet

ang3lsholocaust ·

:o its sooooo hot..very nice indeed😊

pete wood ·

the narrowing job on that is very very subtle. the way all mods on ghiasa should be.👍
if you hadn't told us, we wouldn't known. should keep all the "monkey see, monkey do" types fooled for a while.😏

BTW, no wonder his missus is cut with you, it looks like you're trying to outdo eachother. 😀

crewcabconnection ·

whats not to lust over....awesome in every respect....I wish.

baybuscamperkid ·

beautiful, those rims make the car 100x cooler looking, your a lucky man.

Dasdubber ·

Well after a few minor hiccups (mainly a few wiring stuff ups on my behalf), the 2110 engine is finally in Brad's KG. The wiring was tidied up, oil lines run along with new 10mm stainless hard fuel line along pan - then the heartbeat was reinstalled which makes the ghia a whole lot more fun! Those tyres certainly do stick 🙂

You should be able to see it at Valla in a month!

GASBNR ·

das, NICE work,

Are the rear deck lid springs still in place?
and how close are those carbs to the lid?
just interested as I'm in the process of the stroker for my KG.

Cheers OL

PrettyBlueBug ·

It has a very red interior! :P

Dasdubber ·

It certainly has - red interiors and silver paint seem to go hand in hand and work so well.

The left spring clears no probs but right hits the filter top however through its arc of motion, the spring only momentarily plants down on the top before it travels back up and off the top when the decklid closes. If you had polished filter tops it would be an issue, but Brad is running the solid ribbed aluminium type so it doesn't mark at all and filter doesn't get squashed.

Dasdubber ·

Brad gave the KG a run down the coast today to try out the new muffler, as well as providing an opportunity to fix a few things before the run to valla.

Dasdubber ·

Apart from a tempremental starter motor, the KG made the run to and from valla no probs....also picked up a top 10 award which I am sure Brad was stoked with (feel free to take over this thread from me brad or I'll just keep crapping on).

Here are few pics from valla:

Mini-blup58 trying to make a quick getaway in dad's kg...

bond ·

looks nice - sits a little high in the rear 🙂

nick

congrats on the win at valla! :thumb

sinecure ·

Stunning. In all respects, stunning. SO jealous.

LUFTMEISTER ·

congrats Brad, looked the goods even in the lousy weather.😏
you will have to let me know how that berg filler attaches to the altenator stand as i picked one up at valla.😊

vwkg ·

Lovely Karmann.
The silver looks great.

Dasdubber ·

Unfortunatley the KG won't make it to the VW show on sunday (Klub Fest) as tomorrow we have to pull the engine and gearbox. Reverse gear has been jumping out for a while now, and also the clutch is getting very tired.

Hopefully by Dyno Day it will be back together and tuned a little better too.
