cool... in that case my kombi was unofficially semi-automatic when my clutch pedal broke... it was kinda mostly engaged, but enough free play to change gears without touching the clutch pedal...
got me home and back to the mechanics the next day 馃榿

They are different, same principle and they are 4 speed where the VW box is 3 speed, no 1st gear.

yeah the porsche sportomatic is a 5 speed box, and was very different to driving my semi-auto beetle, wicked fun though 馃榾

The early Sportos were 4 speed, later ones (early/mid 70's were a 3 speed.
