Scored this today.....and will pick up during the week.

Is missing the original W decklid but I have one to put on.
Will need to find an original bonnet.
Comes with original tail lights, a set of 356 wheels, the original front seats and is in pretty good nick other than the paint work...hail the rat!
Still has original 36hp engine and is still 6 volt too.

From where I scored it....in Parap...pretty sure it's a new fence though dude....and they bought not too long ago.

DIY-DUB ·

damn, was worth a shot, thanks anyway tho, top find aswell👍

LUFTMEISTER ·

have you got a shot of the centre panel. what are those gauges in there. home made or after market? nice unit should scrub up all right. will it be ready for dubs?

helbus ·

Perfect to baja. 😵‍💫

Only joking, that's not cool. 🤪

kingroon ·

Mate, what a great score.. Hope you get to keep the plate on it.. Looking forward to seeing the developments.. :thumb

Turbo54 ·

Looks good Reub,
keep us posted.
T54

Doug Sweetman ·

Score !!!! especially in a place as wet as Darwin 🙂

Desert Bug ·

Great score Rueb,

now you can get rid of the Barina!!!!
See, they are out there, just gotta wait. Must have spent most of its' life inland to be that rust free.

Cheers, Ian.

68_bug ·

It looks great mate ! It looks pretty solid, just like the one i just bought, mine came from melbourne but, I will post some pics.a soon as work out how to ?, cheers John.

reub ·

So.....I'd really piss you all off by saying I scored it without outlaying a dollar....

It's actually part payment to help with designing and documenting a house for the guy. He also owns a sweet 356 Porsche...

As for the guages I'll take a photo of them. Even the guy I'm getting it off doesn't know where they are from and thought they may have been an option on the Australia spec beetles. Who knows....

Plans for the car....keep it stock as a rock....GOTTA HAVE THE STOCKER TO GO WITH THE ROCKER....

Want to drop it on it's guts and add white walls. May get dropped spindles for the front as I don't even want to cut up the original beam...

reub ·

and it looks like a dodgy guage cluster maybe???

LUFTMEISTER ·

yep dodgy. but a period accessory. would look alright with 3 period vdo gauges there. good luck with the stocker.

DRA93N ·

Looks great man, and love the fact that your ganna keep it stock, but will you leave it like it is and just get her road worthy, like rat style? would be great to see her get there!

DIY-DUB ·

welcome to avd's odd couple!👍 whats the sticker on the rear bumper say anyway?

VWFREAK ·

What the stock? We'll see, you won't be able to do it Reub.lol

You know you want to do it? Also I think your version of stock might be a little different to most of the guys on here.

Should be another sweet arse ride.

oval TOFU ·

crazy side-by-side comparison pics - love it! 👍
The rocker looks hella mean - I dig it hard.
So.. a slammed rat and a slammed rocker?

reub ·

Yeah....she has to be lowered a min of about 4" I'd say but don't want to do a whole lot to it to be honest. Spent too much on the other car to do a full resto.....

oval TOFU ·

yeh, keep it spartan and roadworthy (just!) and dump it on its guts... then ya done.. just enjoy!

reub ·

That's it dude....then I can go cruising with Peter and he'll be able to drag me off.....against the stocker that is....lol

Will have to look at what I need for it....atleast the brakes have just been done.

oval TOFU ·

yeh, brakes are important mmm--kay? When I bought my oval, i drove it 1 hour+ back to home with 4 leaking wheel cylinders, oil on all 8 shoes which translated to sweet FA braking efficiency.. made it back alive though!

Man, even the blue/white 'two tone' is cool on this bug!

reub ·

hmmmm.....problem with the internet.... http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1140

oval TOFU ·

mmmmmmm! I wish...

Like this.....

pete wood ·

Some people are just greedy 🥲

Very nice Reub. If I know you right, it'll get a resto eventually. 😉

VWFREAK ·

I feel an NT VW Freak workathon comming up.

reub ·

Yeah DUDE :thumb

Just gotta work on you missus! :P

Hertz ·

VWFREAK ·

To chop or not to chop

VWFREAK ·

Did we or didn't we chop? You'll just have to wait and see the end product.

VWFREAK ·

She's really comming along. Good luck with the bare metal job Reub.

By the way, I knew you couldn't help your self. "Bloody Volksrodders".

VWFREAK ·

Sorry abou the quality of the pic's guys, looks like the camera was going flat.

reub ·

Thanks for your help today dude. VW freaks unite! :thumb

Also thanks to Phil for coming around for his first time ever working on a car....

Hope I don't offend anyone with the chop..:cry..will have to post progress pics as they come to hand.

VWFREAK ·

chop chop. mmmmmmmmmm.

reub ·

No reply about the chop top hey guys.....:P

Well....you'll all be happy to know the roof is in tact and the pics were only a shit stir....for which nobody bit which is kind of sad....ah well.

The roof has been stripped to bare metal. No filler was found at all and it's pretty well straight. Will still require a bead blast though.

Was supposed to have a working bee on Saturday with Peter but it looks like I have a full weekend at work which sucks. I also need to get VWRX registered next month, which really should be a priority....

pete wood ·

there'd be no point in biting anyway. if the VWRX is anything to go by, nothing we could say would stop your wild custom antics if you were really serious. Although I have to say, I did feel more than a twinge of sadness to see another old oval undergoing such an irreversable mod. I spose it's up for a resto then? :thumb

DieSchnelleKafer ·

as if one chopped bug isnt enough

reub ·

Jeez....talk about bringing up really old topics 🙂

It never got chopped and is still waiting for some loving. There are still 'plans' for it - and needless to say the 1100 is not one of those plans...😂

DieSchnelleKafer ·

wow, this is an old topic. just realised sorry...
well if its half as good as what u did before it will be worth keeping an eye on

reub ·

🙂

If I do it I think it will just appear this time 😁
