Brad\'s Backyard Buggy Bash and BBQ - 19 Nov 06 - Pics Now Added ...

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/47989/brads-backyard-buggy-bash-and-bbq-19-nov-06-pics-now-added

Brad ·

Like all great events they all need to start somewhere. Well this year will be the first off for a new annual event which will be Brad's Backyard Buggy Bash and BBQ.

The day will begin at Custom Offroad t 9.00 where all those wishing to compete will need to get there vehicle inspected. This inspection is to cover general vehicle safety and make sure no one is driving an absolute craper as there is enough of them in my yard already. It is also a great opportunity for Buggy Owners to get a free safety inspection and some feedback from guys who work on Buggies all week long.

Then at High noon we will cruise out to Brad's place where the fun will begin. We have three tracks to play on and some other events such as barrel racing , grass drags, gravity challenge, spud spearing etc . A trophy will be awarded to the person who has the most points after the events. This trophy which has been sponsored by several of the local VW businesses ( TBC at closer to the event ) will be awarded annually to the best buggy / baja handler.

After a few hours of fun and enjoyment we will head to the BBQ / Fire place to tell each other how good we all where and enjoy some good quality Manx Club hospitality.

Day is open to all people although only Manx Club Members are allowed to drive the tracks. BUT you can join on the day.

C'mon you know you all want to hack my grass up and prove you can get up the little ity bity hill ...

Buggy On !!

EDIT - more details here http://www.manxclub.org/TripReport.asp?EventID=41

EDIT - Date changed due to conflict with GC VW show. Now on the 19th November

I need them to keep the grass down low enough so I don't loose to many VW's in there.

When you say, "nothing exiting", are you referring to when you got stuck in the tree and had to get cut out. That's what I'd call no "exiting". 😀

OZ Towdster ·

Terry's just scared that my old type 1 swinger Manx is going to have to pull him out of the shit again heheheheheheheh Oh didn't he mention that bit on here last time he went up that hill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess in your own twisted way you've summed up the majority of car club events.

Dyno Day - oh look your cars outta tune, give me $$$ to tune it
Track Day - you cars not fast enough give me $$$ to make it faster.
Show and Shine - your cars not the prettiest give me $$$ to make it prettier.

The Manx club is an offroad club, offroad locations close to Brisbane are few and far between. Brad has acreage close to Brisbane so he's offered it for an afternoon of offroad fun.

In todays legal climate where if someone trips over your letterbox you can be sued I don't blame Brad for only wanting drivers that are in a club with insurance driving in his yard. And he's covering his arse by doing a quick safety check on cars.

The way I see it is this.
Manx Club members get to throw their car up on a hoist and have a good look underneath with some expert eyes and I don't mean brads I mean other club members as well. It's amazing how many suggestions you get when your car is on a hoist.

Manxclub members then get to go offroading at a location close to Brisbane with the offer of a friendly BBQ, Beer and a chat after-woods.

I offer you to come for the day and watch the fun and festivities. Pass judgement then.

I asked festy if he was interested in attending playgroup.. he promptly flicked a fan belt at me, chucked a hubcap across the lawn and said he'd think about it and he wanted new shoes first because he is all embarassed at being a big old neglecteroonie with shagpile lining 😢 😉 🥷

(dirty little baja, I think he just likes to watch :puke )

OZ Towdster ·

Sure was funny at the time or so you thought Brad , i can still here you kacking yourself in the passengers seat on Video.

Andy42 ·

Andy42 wrote:Come on heather its about time you showed that car who is boss. 😬
being a bossy keeper isn't the problem, festy loves a good beating, it's more the spineless little wussbag donk which seems to chuck a hissy fit if the hill is bigger than a speedbump or the ground is hot and squishy under his poor little pansy feet. Grrr, I thought he was doin ok........ till I started riding around in other peoples toys...

*sigh*

You know how it is, most of you have reached the point of no return.. I have outgrown the motor, I NEED MORE POWER.. grrrrrbrooombroompooooobum1600TP(T:total P:poo)! 😠 I'll just find a nice flat bit in an out of the way corner to do some donuts with my baldy tyres being the speshul person I am :sandrine

everything is free for members.

Non members are allowed to participate (cos they aren't covered by club insurance or something) and are $5 to watch.

Membership is $50.

The quarterly magazine is a bit late at the moment, this is because the magazine has to be filled using articles written by members, and no-one submits articles so they only have themselves to blame. :P

I submitted an article last year and heard nothing about it...don't even know if it was recieved....I have no backup of it as the pc died, but i went away overnight near Charters Towers and got great pictures and some dirty pictures (in the dirt):o and wrote an article as requested..then nothing. My neighbour who came with me was looking forward to seeing it in the mag. Oh well.

That's probably when the editor at the time threw in the towel and quit. Seemed he didn't like the arm chair critics telling him what he should be doing.

Another likely reason is it never made it through the email system. Emails can be like that. If you don't get a reply assume it didn't make it.

The president quit shortly after nominating himself and being elected last year too. We seemed to be plagued by these sorts of probs. We always end up with the same few people trying to hold everything together. So if there are any enthusiast people out there it's up to people like yourselves to make the club bigger and better. :thumb

Every year at the annual meeting people whinge about not enough trips, and no trips for street buggies. We tell them they can have all the street buggy trips they like, just send an email, we will put it on the site and it will be an event. They agree they will do that, and then we never hear from them...

Hey, I didn't kill Kenny...

I was merely commenting on the effect of todays current economic situation with high inflation, and the price of bananas having a large effect on 2nd hand VW parts, as we all know VW owners eat bananas and are generally unemployed hippies, and therefore need to sell off unwanted VW crap in order to afford their precious bananas.

So these days $1000 doesn't buy good second hand parts, it only buys the unwanted crap that is lying around the camp of hippies, from which they use the money to buy bananas....

$2.63 homebrand baja ·

😂 :thumb it's a vicious cycle isn't it.

makntracks ·

i should be there if i hurry up and finish off the baja.hopefully.

vw2b ·

Not long now so who is going ??

Can a stock beetle enter ??

Baja Wes ·

http://www.manxclub.org/TripReport.asp?EventID=41

Yep, not long now. Sunday the 19th for those that have forgotten.

I will be there in my V6 Baja, Brad will be there in his EJ20T Baja. There are quite a few others I know of.

I drove some of the tracks in the 1600cc powered Geko buggy, and it made it through some of them.

You can bring a stock VW, but you won't get very far. There is a large variety of tracks/lines to suit a good range of VW and driver abilities, but I don't think a stock VW would do many at all.

Brad ·

There is something on the 19th ?? And it is in my yard ???

Man I have been busy ... almost forgot and I though you guys came out today to just clear some tracks for fun ....

[ Edited on 12-11-2006 by Buggy Brad ]

vw2b ·

I think I will leave the Superbug at home and just bring the Camera .. you guys are mad.

Baja Wes ·

Those pics are taken on the difficult line to that hill. The easy way is to approach from the left. I tried the difficult line and just did a big wheelstand like Brad (which washes off all your speed). A nissan patrol made it up the difficult line, but none of the VW's did.

I made it up the easy line just fine (in my Baja), and easy made the easy line in the stock 1600cc Geko buggy.

A stock VW won't make it, but if you have big rear tyres you should get enough grip to make the easy tracks.

It was a good day. The only car that needed to be towed by the tractor was Brad! The most trees hit was also Brad 😀

Terry almost got the closest to rolling over award, but then Mike M put the Geko on 2 wheels and balanced it there for a few seconds :P

On a sour note though can the thieving mongrel who took my steering please return it so I don't hit so many trees next time ...

Really good day plenty of thrills and spills but i think that mike m should go for a job with the holden performance driving team with that 2 wheel action

There were about 10 people with digital cameras, 3 people with video cameras. So there were probably 1000 photos taken on the day and probably around 4 hours of video and would you believe no-one caught the Geko stunt driving on 2 wheels.
:cry

THUDKNUCKLE ·

cheers guys specailly to brad for all the work that went into it had a blast and got to meet a bunch of great people cant wait for the next outing with every onesee you all there

ps GO the gecko what a beast of a buggy

THUDKNUCKLE ·

wheres brads award for getting a great day together and for rendering his vechile undrivable from a days fun and hard driving 🙂

(brad sure does like the rev limiter on the turbo baja lol)

Baja Wes ·

Brad does it for the love of it 😀

I think he needs traction control, so he doesn't shower everyone with dirt. And he needs ESC (electronic stability control) so he doesn't understeer and hit trees on full boost. He did show how tough the COR bar work is though. :P

THUDKNUCKLE ·

ya gotta do it for the fun of it and for the love of it 🙂 he did put on a good show in the baja though , it certainly sounds good with the BOV although very ricey lol heheh . if a bar can handle that and not bend a lili then it sure is built to last

MikeM ·

A HUGE thanks to Brad for several reasons.

a) Organising an event. Something more Manx Club members should consider doing (nudge nudge)

b) Letting us use his backyard for a great afternoon of offroad action.

c) Letting me borrow the Geko for the day. It was allot more fun then just walking the tracks. Thanks. I now have to schedule some time to give the Geko some maintenance to make up for my abuse.

Full trip report can be found here:
