hi everyone,
i was just reading up on the beetles production and how it continued in mexico unti 2003. out of curiosity, did any mexican beetles make their way to australia?

what are the significant differences between the 2000 mexican beetle and the superbug? does anybody have any pictures of the mexican beetle, and its interior? i'm interested...

thanks

Some issues with emissions and also issues with them not complying with ADRs (australian design rules). I suspect the money needed to make them comply would make them an impossible proposition. Besides, they have a reputation of rusting very fast and having poor build quality.

i think you will find the new old beetles you are referring to are just the body on a old pan because the whole car would have to meet the current ADRs due to their build date, which are just about impossible to meet with out a hell of a lot of work and money

the guy in vic who owns one trailers it everywhere as you cant drive them on the road. As pete said above the emission stuff killed them off.

Gary from Wolfsburg Automotive in Vic owns a blue one. This may be the one mentioned above.

Google search :

Also present was Gary Collis's Mexican 'Ultima edition' august 2003 beetle. In conjunction with the 1953 beetles present this gave a span of 50years of beetles. According to Gary he purchased the beetle in august in Guadalajara, drove it 500km's to, the VW factory in Puebla and back again to Guadalajara. From there he drove it 2,500km's to the port of Los Angeles in the USA. From there it was transhipped to Panama, where it was loaded on to the M.S. Tampa. He calls it a Mexican refugee! The vehicle is 955 from end of production.
