buying a 2000 passat 1.8T - any adivse?

hi, all

the car is just under 50,000km, has tiptronic and sports pack. dealer serviced. it failed to start during the inspection which owner claimed as a battery fault but did ok the next time.

however i came across some terrble stories about the poorreliability and high service/repair cost of the passat from owners in EU and US so I am just wondering is there comment from oz owners, worse or better?

any comment is appreicated.

also any place in sydney i can go for a good pre-purchase inspecton?

last, how much u think the car should be worth if you wre to buy?

i seen one on ebay the other day 80,000 kms with the same specs, 1999 model,black,$11000
