Is your dub your daily?

https://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/threads/48217/is-your-dub-your-daily

fekkinell 路

So how many people here drive their dubs as their daily car?

So often i get comments like "but how do you handle driving such a big van everywhere" or "doesnt it break down"... of course the answer to both of these is "easily" and "no actually... its never let me down yet"... unlike my 2001 hyundai (poo poooooopoooooo) which collapsed the battery twice, and my '99 commondore which died smack in the middle of Collins St. Gladly both of these cars are no longer dirtying my driveway.

So yeah... do you dub it every day? 馃憤

VWFOOL 路

yep, drive my 56 oval everyday

helbus 路

Fleur drives one of her dubs either 75 bus or 71 beetle every single day.

One of the guys at her work asked if she had aircon. When he found out there was none, he said "That's what you get when you drive a s&!tbox"

She came back with. "At least I own my car, and it's worth more now than when it was new"

He owns a new Conformador S ute on finance, so he had no answer back. 馃檪

pod 路

yep my caravelle is my daily, and my beetle is my club run car馃榾

barls 路

my sbug is my daily

buzzbug 路

i dirive mine daily.
i even drive it when the wifes forester is parked in the garage.

though my favourite thing is seeing the people that win "best daily driver" awards in cars that are clearly not daily drivers.
as far as i am concerned if it is only taken out on weekends when there are no rain clouds in sight, it is not a daily driver
If you did not drive it to the event and it came on a trailer, it is not a daily driver.
A daily driver has scratches and signs of ware and tare.
Not pristine and unmarked duco.

Lee.

It is even the car i take on holiday.

My PBB is my daily driver.... and to the above comment, she has a few stone ships but that's it. :P

mscabrio 路

Unfortunatly due to the number of ill adjusted people we have in society and the fear of having my soft top slashed my cabrio is no longer a daily driver. I only drive her if I know that the end point will be a safe destination for parking (I don't drive her to work and shopping centres). The richer half does drive her to work when the weather is fine as he has secure parking.

sikdub 路

My squareback used to be my daily but is now sitting in the shed while the Mk3 VR6 Golf does the daily duties...

hellbugged 路

26000km worth of daily driving this year

buzzbox 路

My square does a 20km round trip every weekday, maybe that on weekends too(for a year and a half now) and never fails to get there.
Driven to Gosford a few times and Newcastle ,from Sydney without a hitch.

I can't bring myself to worry about the paint job (previous owners' wonderful coat
of..ahem..acrylic housepaint)
Think I'll check the oil and tyre pressures before tootling up to euro day for a looksee.

The great thing about driving a ratlooker, if you park in the wrong spot and your car gets scratched, or a bird shits on it, or it starts to rust, it only looks better. A car is for driving, it gets you to the place you want to be. It should not become a statue that never moves.

77bay 路

My bay is the daily for me. She clocks up 160km a day round trip to work up and down the bruce highway. Works out around 45000km a year, and she doesn't miss a beat thanks to Gary at Conti Engines.馃憤

11CAB 路

Up until not long ago, our Baja Bus was our only car, therefore was a daily driver, now I have two kombi's to choose from and the wife drives an air-con camry.
The Baja Bus has done over 100,000klms since we've owned it, and the only real dramas have been broken gearboxes, but it does run 31x10.5R15's on the rear and I flog the crap out of it......

77bay 路

Hey Bob, I get I kick seeing your bus in the mornings when I'm finishing the night shift. It keeps me awake looking for it in the traffic. 11cab is yours a purple bus? I've spotted that one a couple of times and had some nasty ideas for mine, or the next project!:thumb

lohoon 路

VWCOOL 路

Not any more... My IRS Oval WAS my daily (150,000km in aboyt 7 years after I built it) now it's a (sometimes) weekend car. I have terrific memories of fixing the starter motor when racing at Willowbank; putting on a new exhaust somewhere near Cooma on the way to the snow, beating some Wagga boys in thier HQ V8s, having a wheel fall off in Umina...ahhh those were the days

Our Notch would do 15000kms a year and we scored to best insult, the other day from a few grommets.
Grommet talking to other grommet......... Shit man, that car sounds like your old computer.馃槀馃槀馃槀
I gather his mate had MS DOS or Windows 95.

saintlywhitetigeress 路

my beetle is my daily drive 7 days a week. went down the coast on saturday and am going up the coast tomorrow, then to canungra on friday for the weekend. giving her a few long drives. before just driving to and from work again next week.

wouldn't drive any other car

baybuscamperkid 路

kopmbi was until she went ka-boom, now ratty type 3 wagon does the duties and does them well. managed to get about 900km up to Bawley point (south coast NSW) in a day, and back in a day a week later, cruising at 100kph last saturday in 30 - 40deg heat, cant believe she did that so happily 馃憤

oval TOFU 路

My 55 beetle is a driven 'daily' by me. I work from home, so I don't actually have to 'drive' to work everyday. She's only left me stranded once. But does all my automotive duties, unless it's 35degrees+, then I'll try to scam a car with air con... or get my girl friend to drive her CRV! 馃槈
