Nice car Dave, I luv that Blue on Beetles.

Tazzielittle ·

SWEEEEET!
Its good to see another VW on the road..
Good job Dave!
:thumb:thumb:thumb

vw54 ·

yeah this one has taken some time... but its been enjoyable,,,, did all the little things over the years untill i had the funds to get the major body work done.

I would like to thank Qantas for there generious donation to the fund.

And Carlton n United.... :puke

That pic dosent show the true colour...

speedster356 ·

Hmmm, good point Grey57.
The question has been asked several times before" is this a chemical manufacturing plant or a VW workshop?".
Looks like we have to update the "work carpark shot" Dave. Thae Sea Blue will add a nice contrast to the collection..
😀

XXX-1.8T ·

Thats my cars twin!:bounce

Shazzas the same colour only a touch lighter so we solved the mystery shes

SEA BLUE:bounce

vw54 ·

Didnt i tell you that in the other thread ???

vw54 ·

I had the craps with my rear screen glass... it had a stain on the glass which i though wouldn tshow up... but out in the sun light it did ... so this arvo i kicked the screen out n got another screen from the archives.. much betterererere....

Its just that i have spent the last hour fitting the staino chrome trim to the rubber... and its driving me made sometimes those trim windows can take hours.. and besides i heard the putor calling

SKEWtYpe3 ·

vw54 ·

Goldie ragtop sunroofs for Beetles stop in Australia in May 1966

I have an origional VW parts catalogue that shows it...

I will be taking some pics next week so hopefully they will show the colour better. Yes i have all the reference numbers for this colour.

OvalGlen ·

vw54 ·

I drove it 35 odd miles this arvo with the heater on full and the sunroof open

The heater is stuck but only until i can get underneath...
But the roof was excellent no noise you could hear the engine purring sweet....

XXX-1.8T ·

Hey dave ur car looks awesome, now im embarressed to show u my car.

At least it a VW.

BUGBOY ·

I noticed you have a nice reverse light on the back!
Cool, nice touch.
Who did you rag roof?
As I`m about to recover one myself soon.
If you can email me some info, that would be neat.:thumb

vw54 ·

The cover material is from Chucks Convertables in LAX and is Mercedes Material

I fitted it material to the sunroof which took about 6 or 7 goes to get it right and stretched out to fit the corners correctly.

And of course its a Genuine Goldie Sunroof, fitted Standard .

I just had to show it after 15 years.

It getting nioce to drive as well... running it in a bit...nearly done 300 miles

vanderaj ·

Beautiful car, Dave. 🙂

Andrew (who likes stock 🙂

vw54 ·

So what was the story with the weekend Andrew...

vanderaj ·

Cat minding fell through. 🙁 🙁 Finally got on to her last night through MSN Messenger 🙁 Four days without humans - I don't think I'd have a house to return to.

I think I needed to have been less dithering about Tuesday last week.

Andrew

Craig Torrens ·

Dave, I don't think the car suits you, so I think you should sell it to me !!!!:thumb:thumb

vw54 ·

Poor effort Andrew...

Craig I dont think u have enough money

Shit i am just starting to enjoy it... after 15 years.

vw54 ·

The heater is now fixed n running even better after doing an exhaust gas fuel air mixxture ratio

the main jet was opened up to 130 and the air idle to 60

done 300 miles now and it running fine.

kafer70 ·

Fantastic job it's a credit to you
Nice colour:thumb

geodon ·

In about 1974, I bought a beetle for parts this colour that had had a fire in the eng compt. We were living in my parents house at the time while they were living O/S & they had a very large crawl space underneath. So I went rummaging around & found the stub axles, trannny & a near virginal bonnet!! Bonus!

vw54 ·

You still havet he bits n pieces ???

Give the bonnet a polish it will proberly come up like new

splitbusaustralia ·

Still catching up after being away....

Very very nice dave! I'd only take 0.05 of a point off because its not a type2!

So what's next in the pipeline - everything we've seen seems to be done?

RobK

vw54 ·

Another Type 3 for the young bloke

If you can find me a nipple blinker Twin Cab split i would love that.

Of course it would be STOCK.

XXX-1.8T ·

I think a nice set of whitewalls would look hot on ur car Dave, you'd be suprised at the cosmetic difference its made to my car, suits our colour the best too :thumb

Mister Hoodjacks ·

Bewdiful!

vw54 ·

No dont like white walls or dirty walls is what you call them after afew days.

The bloody things get dirty too quick n some times get loose n fall off.

No there not for me...
maybe a flash down the side or a full Euro look with the wholes side panel in light grey, to match my interior.

Just wait till the Judosn gets fitted

XXX-1.8T ·

I clean mine with Jif and look new everytime!

vw54 ·

and they yellow after a while as well.

vw54 ·

gotta go for a drive

XXX-1.8T ·

Mine are still white, after being a daily driver in all this $hit weather they are still white Dave

:beer

vw54 ·

Well thats good to hear i hope they stay that way for a long time

they must be making them from different material now days cause the old ones were bloody hard to keep clean.

XXX-1.8T ·

Atlas ones are made out of white rubber. I thought they were always made of white rubber.

They fit so flush with the tyre people think they are real whitewalls!

Im really happy with them:kiss

vw54 ·

Finally found the correct Aussie seals for the door switches as well.

XXX-1.8T ·

vw54 ·

It was nice to have a good drive along the freeway last Sunday

vw54 ·

Was it hard to find a flash like that?

Its different and suits the sea blue really well!

vw54 ·

And it will NEVER b a Rat sorry

Carnt drop a resto..

VWFOOL ·

vw54 ·

No the Oval needs a full resto its been 20 years or more since i painted it.

jenz58 ·

It give the Sea Blue a new completely new look...sweet

vw54 ·

yes it does brighten it up

western shirt hehehehe

ctefeh ·

That colour is just great. Was looking in VWMA at the two tone Bus in Sea Blue and wondered how great it would look on a Beetle...and now I know!! Fantastic....

Did you go 2 Pac and what brand if you don't mind?

Regards
Ctefeh

vw54 ·

Its not the brand of Paint ( PPG ) its the way its applied, which is what you pay for.

isky ·

Gees you do some nice work Dave....

vw54 ·

yeah thanks for that took bout 15 years on n off some times with money some times with none

vw54 ·

YEp there out there but bring big dollars now days Mine are original

1303Steve ·

your standing in it Birchall

vw54 ·

Car is running nice

Fossil ·

Flash Trim ..... looks FLASH 👍 👍.

Air Cooled Accessories have made some up that have adhesive tape to save having to drill - https://www.aircooledaccessories.com/product/australian-flash-trim-for-beetle-aussie-flash-trim/ ..... think I saw them in the last VWMA.

Just Kampers Australia have them catalogued also.

vw54 ·

Yeah they look good looks like only one style but you could vary it around to suit and paint the infill

BUT i am a purist and when it comes to accessories no Repros for me unfortunatly sometimes is costs a lot to get them looking good once again but worth it in the end
