when you are on the page click on favourites at the top tool bar

Then on the side pannel that appears click on "add"

Well it WAS a stupid question . . but there is nowhere on my toolbar that actually refers to Favourites!
I'm not THAT bad, am I?

At the top left of the thread there are 3 icons.

The RH one is a "Favorites" button that adds the thread to your favorites.
