ok gang try this an old trick
double your miles eg. 40 becomes 80 than minus 20 =60
40 mph is 60 klm
it works try it:kiss

37mph is 60...:kiss

squizy ·

Divide by 5, multiply by 8.

twoguns ·

jsut times miles by 1.6! the bigger the figure the less accurate.
for example 100mph is a 160, not 180😵

yeah ok. thats easier.

winerot ·

on this subject does anyone know if you can still get the transfer that sticks to the speedo over the top of the milage, have asked this question before & most came back with just mark the speedo which to me is an ugly alternative no thanks

you could alwyas jsut cut some card. set it on temporarily. go for a drive following a mate with a modern speedo. mark your klm points. then dress it up and install. whallah!

just remember 30, 37, 43, 50, 55, 63 and 70...

that's 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110.. easy... now, if your speedo is out too... well, transpose!

Slide Rule???? didnt they go out with the ark😂

The way I do it is to multiply by 0.6. Then either that's the number you want or add it to the first number to get what you want.

Remember that kilometres is the bigger number.

For ensample :-

80 km/h x 0.6 = 48 mph (=50 mph, approx)

50 mph x 0.6 =30 + 50 = 80 km/h

Alternatively, ignore the zero and call the 80 km/h, 8 km/h,

So 8 km/h x 6 =48 mph

and, 50 mph becomes 5 mph x 6 = 30 + 50 = 80 km/h

The real conversion factor is 0.62, but its too difficult to get it easily in the head, so 0.6 or 6 are good enough.

I hope I haven't confused you.

Hopefully you are doing the same as me with those slide rules------ mixing paint with them! Aren't you glad calculators came along!

I went all lo tech and bought a metric speedo, more relaxing cruising all round. I know where you can get em for splitties as well. Genuine VW part not some repro crap either. Only tight arse beetle drivers use the sticker system

The speedo on my beetle has both MPH and KPH.
