ive got a new engine to go in my car and i need to know whether ive got a 12 volt or 6 volt starter.

the car is 12 volt but i think the starter may still b 6 volt.

i cant see an obvious voltage marking on the starter. what am i looking for?>

The 6 volt starter will not mesh with a 12 volt ring gear. Different pitch gear teath.

My car still has the 6 volt starter but was rewired to 12 volt

Voltage should me marked on starter, you my have to take it off and clean it up to find it.
12 volt starter has a 11 (10.97) mm shaft
6 volt starter has a 12.5 (12.47) mm Shaft

the reason im worried about the starter is because i dont know if im using the 12 volt or 6 volt flywheel on my current engine and want to know whether the flywheel on the new engine will mesh with the starter.

6 volt starters work fine with 12 volts they just spin faster and im pretty sure mine spins faster than normal.

i guess ill find out when i drop the engine 🙁

ok so the flywheel on the new engine is an early flywheel..

just gotta hope that my suspucions of starter are true.....fingers crossed.
