mackaymanx ·

Just watched Jamie Oliver Cursing the hell out of his lovely van, I like him but the bastard dosen't deserve that lovely piece of machinery.

jo_tas ·

I can't say i blame him though.. theres times my dub has had a problem at the worse times and i've used a few exotic words myself.

And he spent how much on that thing?

And its had problem after problem through the series.. the guy that restored must have done a pretty crappy job!

crewcabconnection ·

nothing, the BBC paid for it.

mackaymanx ·

I think half the problem is the way he treats it.Reakon a subaru motor would have been perfect for it

ragtopp ·

Restored or not, the car is how old???? Those that want new car performance from an old restored car need to get out of dreamland.

Volkswagenboy ·

The prick!!! He's the one who should be cursed! I saw it too, and I think the should give the car to me!
-Staggers.

Unity-28 ·

HIs Car, He can call it what he likes....I curse my car when it breaks down too...let alone in another country with none of your mates to give you a hand.....

kroozzn63 ·

yeah ive shared those words to mine , funny and its usually when its the simplest of things , and he did say twice well it is 1950 sumfing . and do u guys remember when he was sitting in the chair by the road funny frenzix posted a similar pic a while back when it happened to him

Dasdubber ·

Luke Theorachi (spelling is incorrect I am sure) in the UK did the resto to my knowledge - he turns out some wicked rides...but as you say, its a 50 year old car.

mackaymanx ·

The car my be 50 but the motor he's using isn't and that's what he keeps having trouble with

phatratpat ·

:cussing stand him up next to a wall & shoot the bastard.
blindfold optional...............🙄

Warrenm ·

I understood it was overfilled with oil and then someone flew out from UK to fix but said it would need complete strip and rebuild when it got back.

toecutter ·

I recently saw (series 3 ?) of Top Gear and The Stig takes Jamies Split around the test track for a fast lap.
To make it interesting, Jamie had to make a salad dish in the back while The Stig was racing.
As you guessed....... the dish went everywhere.
Funny Sh*t👍

shaihulud ·

Yeah. Bugger him. He doesn't deserve to have that splitty.

Not only that, he's another one of those ignorant TV cooks who DRIZZLE olive oil onto their cooking. What he means is DRIBBLE. They all do it. The ignorant illiterate slobs.

Robo ·

If he had so many problems, wouldnt it be the bloke who put it together that should get the bollocking? I mean I would be pretty pissed at that sort of thing if I paid someone a mega dollar money is no object amount for a resto and those sorts of things happened.
Rob...

Scarlet ·

He is a chef.... waddya expect....tanties galore......... I've driven from Lithgow to Roseville on a hairs breath of a clutch....only made it with soothing words of love and encouragement.....
can't talk, I work in the kitchen too.... don't take it out on that beautiful kombie though ... he shoulda brought a waitress or a kitchen hand to yell at!

winerot ·

you gotta remember jamie knows nothing about mechanics & he admits that
he has done some stupid stuff to the van & he admits that, if you heard him
say he thinks he has been driving around on two cylinders for a while without
realising it shit that would'nt do it any good, maybe he was low on oil too we
will nether know but i have read on ssvc that allthoe he is selling the 23 he is
replacing it with another split so i read.
so give him credit for what he likes he wants & with he's money wouldnt you go
all out to have the best you can, the man trully likes splits just as a mechanic he's
a good cook.
but what impressed me a lot was the school food nothing is allowed to be fried &
mcdonalds shut down in the village after 3 months for me thats 10 out of 10:thumb

Scarlet ·

AGREE with ya winerot.......He doesnt make any apologies for himself, which is pretty impressive.......
His unmistakeable passion for food is SOOO evident....he loves it, and understands the real nature of cooking amazing food....... its the 'care factor' its the LURVE! .... which I'm sure a lot of the people here can appreciate, as it's that same care factor that produces some of the amazing VW's I've seen.............his craziness can easily be forgiven....
still a bit of a twat though
😉

kingroon ·

I'm with kroozzn62, I've had words with my Bug.. Bad words.. But what else can ya do? Bottle it up?! 😀

His passion is food, and to be fair he was on his way to his 30th BirthdayBash when it happened.. He wanted to have a GrandEntrance and ended up on the back of a FlatBed.. I really sympathised with him..

What I did find funny is that after all the slagging of his VW, he's trying to sell it! Hardly good advertising 🤪

HotRodMatt ·

He's not illiterate, his tongue is just too big for his mouth.

And drizzle is a real word.

Oxford English Dictionary (the last word in what is English language)

drizzle, v.

Add: 5. Cookery. trans. To pour or let fall in trickles over the surface of food; also, to cover in this way. Also intr. of the coating: to run in trickles.

koolkarmakombi ·

yeah, only good and sympathetic mechanical ppl should be able to own them ❓❓❓❓

If that was the case half this list would be rideless.

He has his talents, and being a right essex geeza is one of them. He can cook up a storm, save the schoolkids (the poms eat the worst diet in EU) get down and out kiddies a trade (15)

so

I forgive him his chequebook resto and mechanical naivity.

Id love to share a pint or three with him :beer:beer

anyone know what episode of top gear it was?

pete wood ·

dunno about you, but I know a number of mechanically aware people who made really stupid mistakes one after the next...just like Jamie. I was one of them, so cut him some slack eh? VW are mystery to lots of mechanics, why should a humble chef be any different. 😉

Ahh no, the correct cooking term is 'drizzle'...

And the Kombi has a big fat engine in (upright P911 fan etc), not an 1100, and Porsche alloys etc so you would expect to get a coupla trouble free months it of it at least!

[ Edited on 29-3-2006 by VWCOOL ]

squizy ·

The most important thing is that he's a Dubber.

pete wood ·

yes, but he did fill the oil breather box up with oil. can't be good for the motor. 👎

He worked to earn rhe money to own it so he is entitled to be a true VW driver, he even gets shitty with it (as you do)

Sounds like the closest you have come to fine dining is what you can order in a drive through.
Leave what you can't compete with alone would be good advice

PrettyBlueBug ·

A lot of people would still want to buy his Veedub anyway, regardless of the probs it has/had! :P Afterall, JAMIE OLIVER owned it. 😉

Robo ·

He will get over it!

Drizzle is a perfectly cromulent word.

VWFOOL ·

cheers

phatratpat ·

:beerI still say we shoot him ( hic! )😵

CAFFINEPUSHERMAN ·

agreed wanna be italian geezer fag:P

empi ·

Das is correct ,

Luke Theocari built the bus. i have been to his garage many times, he has built many of the UKs finest vws.

A

62deluxe ·

We all just jealous. He's got lotsa money and he spent it on a dub. Good on him I say.
Oh and I wish I could cook like that too....
Hands up who has never cursed their dub?
Can't see many hands.

kroozzn63 ·

yeah 62 deluxe thats right, When i first saw adds about this new jamie oliver cook etc i thought whos this tosser , but started watching a couple of months ago and i recon hes down to earth for what hes down and the cheques he gets good on him vw lover ,he could end up like his mate Jamiriqui with those bloody ferrari things but sticks with the splitty i give him the thumbs up👍👍

Brookie ·

Always liked his cooking shows once I got used to his voice.
At least he does drive his Kombi not like a lot of "celebrities" who have them as an in thing.

Larry Hagman (JR from Dallas for the younger ones) has his original splittie from college days. When he became wealthy enough he searched until it was found and then restored

I think youlll find thagt matt keene built it and lukie just looks after it for jamie 🙂

bugeyedbabe ·

I think it rocks...van and the man.

Who wouldnt love to have this spiltty...well...maybe not at the price he has it for sale....but...

i think everyone swears at their vw every once and a while (not me...so far...) and i know i would be if i spent massive amounts of money for a top range van, only to have it failing...and it'd be cursing more so if it were something stupid i had done (just not at the van)

Add to it that Jamie was headed to set up is own birthday bash, and instead of coming into town driving was being towed.

But yeah, think of all the geat things he's done. He helped the kis with their lunchs...even worked with parents to help curb the kids to healthy eating. Help teenagers/young adults into jobs....

at least he is using his cooking and fame to help make things better. Not just getting rich and leaving it at that.

And as for his right to own a van...definately. Just cause he has to pay someone else to fix it...is that any worst than paying someone else to cook your dinner???

I don't think so...and lets face it...more people who know about the older dubs and have them means a continued demand....which is good for us all when it comes to purchasing parts...if there is a demand business will continue to produce parts

danny_allen_uk ·

crewcabconnection wrote:nothing, the BBC paid for it.
no they didnt

jamie is a vw fan and paid for it himself

bugbrained ·
