dubbill ·

hi im interested on getting some ideas together for people wishing to biuld an aircooled t4 for their bay busses as there is already a section for water pumpers please refrain from posting the subie, mazda, rover, toyota arguments any recomended builders appreciated.we start off with a worn stock carburetted 1970cc motor.

barls ·

id reccomend richard holtzs cams i have his mild cam in my t4 motor and its good. im also a fan of the stock twin carbs as they give good performance for what they are

supercharge it! draw through toyota super charger setup with i guess a cam shaft to suit, balanced crank and maybe reduce compression a bit and possibly twin ignition... thats my next build up soon as i get time and $$$

as for builder... no idea...

Craig Torrens ·

Speak to Stan Pobjoy 66543694, he's been building heaps of t4's lately.

His twin plug setup on the type 4 works a treat. With his cam, higher compression and the twin carbs you'll have plenty of grunt👍

i was actually thinking of a 2056 ie taking the hardened barrells out 2 ml dont know if i can getcarl smith pistons n rings this size (95's no prob)getting peter liddle (bris)to rework a pair of 1800 heads the cam had me stumped i know w.penrose used a pauter k8 but that was in a beetle twin 44 webbers and a set of raby tangerine headers anyone know whos doing tuned exhausts in oz for t4
stans engine sounds sweet might try n pry some valuable info from him any pic's of the twin plug set up anywhere???

dubbill ·

main points that i can see for the t4 are
1. head work better flow
2. cam work the most important aspect according to my reasearch of jake raby
3. exhaust stock headers are restricrtive
4. carburetion t4's are under carbureted

Craig Torrens ·

Put a set of 103mm pistons and barrels on it. About $1000 new.

66deluxe ·

Who sells 103's at that price? as i was thinking 78x96 first then stepup to 78x103, cheers Damien.

toplessbug ·

go to STF and search ,there is a lot of info regarding 103's but its generally agreed that they dont work in a bus,not so bad in a light beetle:beer:beer:beer

Whatever you do, DON'T use bigger cylinders than stock. Big-bore is great for Beetles which are light-weight cars, but kombis are big and heavy with lots of wind resistance: big-bores won't last long under that kind of load because the walls are too thin. Therefore, if you want more capacity than stock 2L you need to stroke it, but that can be expensive.

Cost me $850 AUS to get a DPR type 4 78mm crank here, Go 76x 94 for a bus, better torque and power.

agreed, that's the best without spending a fortune

barls ·

i dont know ill ask the old man if he still has it dubbill

dubbill ·

how bout stock fuel injection hardware with microtec/haltec ems

barls ·

im sorry i couldnt find the card about the cam but if you ring richard at vforce im sure he will tell you about it.

bus914 ·

get a torque cam from anyone you like if its going into a bus. mine is a 2lt and will hold 80 up Mount Ousley (even before the injection went on).
