I wish.....one day the bug might venture back to valla. Was 5 years ago Laurie brought the car to Valla...it's a totally different car now though.

Clyde dosent know how to turn a corner LOL he only races in a straight line AND FAST as well..
David, are you racing or just yelling abuse form the hill
Dont worry u will be on the hill beside me.... at least ive had a run on the track a few years ago...
and they talk about Drag racing being expensive looks cheap no hey maybe if the price was reduced there might be more entries... :thumb

there are enough entries, only a few more spots left.
Jeff and i are in the rex notch

I'll see how I go this weekend at Wakefield park.
I've got a new oil cooler up front so the oil temps are fantastic.The engine is running sweet and pulls like a train. It sounds really aggressive so things are looking good.
I'm driving the car to and from work this week and it's putting a smile on my dial.
However there's nothing like a supersprint and a 400 kilometer round trip to bring out weaknesses. If all goes well I'll think about entering the Valla next week.
Well done to the organisers for being organised. It's good to see the event locked in early.

I'm happy to help:
Don't waste money on yet another respray;
Install a factory BJ front end to get rid of the bumpsteer you admit to having on a straight track in your CADCAM front end; OR stiffen your existing front suspenion to reduce bump-ster on suspension movement
Install a cheapo 2-litre Kombi gearbox and turn back the boost to keep it alive;
Use a simple computer (eg a Delco, Microtech, Haltech or MoTeC (I know of a very, very good Microtech tuner who does a lot on international work) without any datalogging shite on it to confuse anyone.
Then, actually get your it onto a track and see if you can have more fun - or run quicker - than a street beetle with less than $4K invested in its chassis/handling because having 300+bhp ain't no good if you can't get it to the track!

Give JVL a break!
Each to their own.
Think about how many modifications are on JVLs car!
Now think of the fact that you go and bolt a standard reproduction part on a VW and it needs to be modified to fit.
Now think of what happens when you bolt a modified part on. If it just fits then you're lucky. But then you have to modify 3 other parts to make the new part work with the existing parts.
Like the Torrens brothers I've followed a simple formula for modifying a beetle. The basic bolt-on formula that includes Weber, koni, sway bars, type 3 brakes etc fitted to an IRS pan has been followed for decades. Even this combo takes ages to sort out and get right.
I can't fathom how many head-scratching moments JVL would have trying to make his car work properly. Just about every component fitted has followed no proven formula.
The car is a work of art and it has already made it to the track. That's more than I can say for the dozens of "Gunna"s who've said they're building a bug to race.
I got my car on the road in 2001 and I think I've finally got it how I want it after 5 years. If we suggested that JVLs car has 10 times more modified parts. I expect the development to take 50 years.
Keep up the good work JVL.

you better all stop bitching and get some quick VW's out to the track this year .
I want to see if any tintop comes close to the lap times my sports sedan was doing around Raleigh 2 years ago with a normally aspirated type-4 engine . Was 3 secs a lap quicker than any other tintop back then and also 2 years prior to that .........
Just get out and have a go and have fun..........

Maybe I miss the point of racing - isn't racing all about having fun (unless you do it for a job)? Remember there are always a lot of "lurkers" watching in on these types of threads - I can't say it creates a supportive atmosphere for newbies wanting to give it a go.

well, there was plenty of angry driving up the road from Valla today. the feild was turning over at a rapid pace, with a sighting lap and six timed laps for each competitor, squeezed in over a three hour period, WITH a 3/4 hour lunch break!
just some teaser shots for now, i literally had my hands full after the flag dropped, so sorry, no action shots yet.
a sample of the field....
and the all important times!!! ( yes Craig proper beam timing:P ....normal start line position, with the finish beam at the top of the hill before the tight downhill section that leads back to the former start finish line)
another 10 laps to go tomorrow :thumb

Occasionally down here in grubby Wollongong, the Kembla Grange Kart track has a corporate relay day. Not sure exactly how it works but I think you have teams of drivers all doing stints in the car for certain periods of time.
This would be a blast. You could have a hellbug team, a durie team a pobjoy team, old and bold, young and dumb, queer and no fear..... any teams you want. Not sure when in the weekend you could fit it in, but I'd most definitely be up for it.
