the car has never had seatbelts fitted from factory, its pre67, its been registered up until last year without belts.
Will i need to fit belts for my blue slip or not?
if i do, and i will want to fit belts at some stage, where do i go to get them fitted and checked etc etc.
thankyou for your time

You don't need belts..........................................but I was driving my country buggy today without belts and I suddenly felt very vulnerable!

VWFOOL ·

yeh understood, ive driven without belts and its a bit scary, ive got some but just need to know if i hav to fit them b4 rego or not.

warb ·

not for rego, if you do make sure they are done right, my 58 has botls right through the phore holes so i gotta move them to put the phores back in..

dubbill ·

yeah if anyone gos under a 18 wheeler they definatly want to have their seatbelts on or if their on a pushie have their stack hat fitted and adjusted properly:duh
lately ive been driving with no undies and felt very vunerable but hey sometimes you gotta push your limits
i have an rx3 that will do ova 300k/hr and transport made me remove 6 point harnesses and fit og lap n sash belts🤘

amazeer ·

One of those weird, could only be done in Macquarie St rules.

You dont need to have them but if you do put them in you will need engineers certificate.

LOL😂
Reminds me of a mate who had a head on crash years ago, and once out of the car walking around, realised he shit his daks in the crash.

would be best to check with the people doing the roadworthy as it may differ from state to state.
We registered our 57 a coupla months ago in Vic (after letting rego run out from Tas) and i spoke with the roadworthy guy about seatbelts - ours has some fitted - and his reply was that if the car didn't have them at factory then it doesn't need them to pass the roadworthy - but if they are fitted then they have to be in good condition etc with no rips, holes, fraying edges etc. my concern was about the seatbelts not having any sort of tagging to say they were to Australian standard and he said it doesn't matter.

I register my 56 every year and she has never had belts. I knew the previous owners!

...I didn't need to put them into Bel my '58 but I did

But I did import Wolsburg sash belts from the states with the flip buckle and manually adjusted...you can't buy them in the shops here as they don't met the Australian safety standards

I was going to go beltless but most people thought I should put them in for safety so I did

It is the definitive question 😂

when i put my 54 back on the road , no belts required as it was not a factory acc.. in qld anyways..
good luck but you should be right

kombikim ·

you dont need to have belts if there are no mounting holes for them, ie pre 1964 - my car had the threaded mounting holes for the front belts built in in 1991, so I am stuck with them

Ive never had seatbelts...& every year it pases.
Its not until you derego it then go to rerego it, then it has to have them.
At least thats what I was told by rta

I think if Your car is out of Rego,
and has the holes for them.....
but no belts....
You would have to fit them.....

and as someone else said, If You do fit them to an early car, You really need a Engineers certificate...

It depends mainly on the fellow who does the blue slip...
but as someone noted....

if they are frayed just a little, they make You replace them
which is stupid as, seat belts do fray, very easily...
but it doesn't mean they are going to break in half in an accident...

If its an Early model, I'd leave them out, and put them in later.... saves on the Engineers fees...

Best of Luck Sam...
