Anyone heard about these VW Coach builds from the late 50's. ??? Found out about these from a Aussie Wheels mag from 1958. Heres a pic.

Ted Proctor only made 3 of these, plus a fourth with a 25 cm shorter wheelbase specifically for hill climbing, they were a fair bit faster than a beetle, being 125kg lighter 12.5cm lower & very aerodynamic, they were not built on a VW pan, they had a ladder type chassis designed to take the beetle front & rear suspension. The Hillclimb car had a porsche motor, I don't know how many still exist, but there is at least one

"12.5cm lower"
um maybe, but the one in that pic certainly needs dumping. 👍

that picture is much worse than they actually looked, the front taoered down under the headlights , where as in that pic it looks cut off under the lights, number plate placement also did not help, at the time, the styiling was equal to many similar cars her & overseas

There was a pale blue one in Melb. it was on club reg and had a Judson supercharger.

Yep I have seen that pale blue one in Sydney. Would have been around 2000. I have a pic somewhere of it. Weird looking thing but still for rarity's sake I would own one. Had no idea they only made four of them.
Someone on here has the user name Protor. I have noticed it before. Maybe they have one. Who knows?

Well I have bought that Wheels Mag on ebay last night. So when it arrives I will scan the article and post it here. I'm interested to see what these things look like too.
That proctologist line was cruel 😵 funny tho 🤪

It was not so much "they" built only 4 it was really a one man show, & he did well to build 3 full cars, remember they were not kit cars, after he built the race car & enjoyed some success in driving it in competition, he lost interest in the road cars, & began building sports race cars (non VW engines) these were known as the Manx, due to their very short tail, eventually he built 8 Manxes of various specs, & they are still well known taday in Historic racing

Yeah there is one being restored in Sydney right now and think I saw what I think was a Proctor...maybe!... in Newcastle two years ago. Buried in a front yard... so two out of three may still exist!

This is a cool VW kit car

There was one up for sale few years ago during one of the DOVW in Melb. He wasn't asking much for it from memory. I also recall an article about them in the VW Power mags back in the early '90s

I read with interest many years ago about a PROCTOR,
[maybe in that Wheels magazine??]
I believe it was in good condition, and it was owned at the time by Barry Noble, who was a VW Mechanic...
I believe He did his apprenticeship at Cardiff Motors which was a VW dealership in the late 50s & 60s. It wasn't located at Cardiff but Mayfield or Hamilton .??
[near Newcastle NSW]
Barry had his own VW repair business at Bennetts Green
back in the 70s....

Barry sold his car to John Kuljuis from Melbourne.. and he was selling it a few yearsago... dont know if he sold it or not believe its the only one left

Dave what sort of money would a Ascort be worth today???
Are there any around in project state??
Love to see one at a show sometime
