Just a quick question for all you knowers of all things VW.
How common are Type 3 short nose Autos?
I would like to think about the purchase of one towards the end of the year for my wife. She is not overly fussy on body type (although she does have a soft spot for notches). I do however prefer short noses to longs.
Also, what is the reliability etc. of the Auto as opposed to manual. ( I wish she could drive a manual!)
Thanks all, just curious.

Mate the type three auto is a very good box .
Most of them suffer from oil loss at the input shaft on the converter .Fix place two seals in there insted of one .
The converter its self has cooling fins , this sucks air across the converter to cool it .If the converter input is leaking oil it collects dust & them mud and over heats .( clean it )
The front mount is very hard to find
apart from that you can make it shift so it snaps your neck !
I love them

I think the short nose body finished in 69, which is the same year the auto was released. I believe that 69 autos are pretty rare, especially in Australia. I think you would be pretty lucky to find one.

What about a '69 auto fastback for $1000 (spintstars not included)

What a bargain. Looks to be in pretty good condition (even without the Sprintstars)
